Anyone ever played A Shin Megami Tensei game?

I feel as though I am the only one here who has.

SMT: Lucifers Call
SMT: Digital Devil Saga (and its sequel)
SMT: Persona 3

Anyone? They are the only other RPG series that is on par with FF, I believe. I have played a part of the first DDS and Persona 3 and the later is one of the best RPG's I've played.

I've played Lucifers Call & Persona 3.

They have a lot of random battles which is what has always put me off them (Persona 3 didn't) but I enjoyed those too, especially Persona 3.

Disgaea is the greatest RPG series, though. The combination of a light hearted & funny script with hardcore strategy rpg gameplay is a winner.

I liked FF 7-9 but 10 & 12 didn't really do it for me.

Currently playing Digital Devil Saga 2 in the final dungeon (won't say where otherwise some people here could kill me!). I've never played through a tougher final dungeon than this, but I have to know how the story ends. DDS probably has one of the best stories of an RPG to date I feel, if only because it's not spiky haired teen wants to explore the world but cannot leave his hometown until an evil Empire invades.... *yawn* DDS' story is adult (not many games deal with cannibalism after all), different from the norm with great characters and with many themes to it.

I understand that the special edition of Persona 3 is coming out here in October, for those who have played it, is the game worth getting at all?
