I had problems with Norton for the last 2 days, first I had "Virus protection out of date" message, managed to clear this OK. Then another "Error 8506-430" message which I couldn't fix & finally had "Error, unable to open this Norton product". I sent emails to support, no reply so far, also had a chat session with support, they said they were aware of the problem & would reply within 24 hours. I logged on this morning & all was running OK again but still no reply from Norton. I had downloaded the 2009 upgrade 2 week ago with no trouble.

They have also broken hot keys...
We have 2 PCs whose subs are about to expire and we would like to see evidence that this will be fixed before renewing!
On the plus side, we have just upgraded our systems from NAV 2006 to NAV 2009 and it does look like 2009 has a lower CPU usage (as promised).

I had this problem with a customer of mine about 3 weeks ago. I spent a whole day on the PC and I couldn't fix it, uninstalling Norton didn't work, reinstalled and still nothing. In the end I gave up and formatted the hard drive.

Have you tried their dedicated forum. If there's an answer you'll get it on there.

Norton's has become a bloated, slow acting system which is well passed its 'sell by date'!
In comparison tests with other Internet protection packages it always comes near the bottom-no one has a kind word for it!
The solution-dump it and install KASPERSKY-you will not believe the difference in performance-Norton's not in the same league!
Amazon are selling Kaspersky 2009 I'Net security 2009 with 3 licences for £16.98 (down from £49.99 -PC World's price!!)
You won't be disappointed!

Far from wanting to open up a can of worms, but the last Norton 2009 that I saw the other day seems to be much faster, less bloated, smaller footprint, and installs very quickly when comparing it to it predecessors.

Perhaps this should be in the computing forum?

HI Stevenuk,

My name is Peter and I am working for an external European Symantec-Support-Team.
We are sorry to hear about your problem. I have informed the Symantec Support about your issue and they provided us with the following solution:

Norton seems to be bad installed. I advise to download the installation file from an other computer (from http://www.symantec.com/trial-uk , the product will be automatically activated ), uninstall Norton on the computer through the control panel and install again. If there is a problem during the uninstallation, use NRT, he can download it from http://www.symantec.com/nrt

Please try it and let me know if it helped.

Best Regards.

The error 3506,430 happens sometimes after the installation of a 2009 product. In this case, you can fix the problem by following the instructions on this page:
http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20080828103 549EN&ln=en_US"

Please try it and let me know if it helped.

Best Regards!

I quite agree, the only fix for Norton products is to remove them. sometimes on a clean reinstall of windows can actualy remove all of that rubbish norton leaves behind but at least you'll have a responsive computer again. Kasperski is great, Comundo it pretty good and free!!
