A guide to grabbing the best bargains this January has been published in the Times today, with stylist Annabel Hodin advising shoppers to first of all make a list of gaps in their wardrobe and also things they really, really want.

For example, someone looking for a nice pair of shoes to coordinate with a black dress they already own could maximise the benefit of discount offers and treat themselves to a coloured or shiny pair - much more interesting than black, Ms Hodin said.

Also worth seeking out is a wide belt, which were very popular this season, in addition to chunky knits and a big clutch bag which people may not necessarily have the money to splash out on at full price.

"You could experiment with something much cheaper in the sales," the article stated.

Another stylist told the newspaper that shoppers should also enquire as to when sales start so they know when to be ready.

"Sale previews are always worth asking about," said Amanda Platt.

In related fashion news, it emerged this week that supermodel Gisele Bundchen is to design her own clothes range for Dolce & Gabbana.

Glamour magazine reported the line could be available by next spring.
