AirBook gets competition at IFA 2008

Samsung has unveiled its latest laptop at the Berlin IFA 2008 technology show.

The Samsung X360 will take on Apple's AirBook – the world's thinnest notebook on the market – and is an ultra-portable 13.3-inch widescreen laptop.

Available in the UK and Europe in October, the new X360 is 90g lighter than the Mac AirBook at 1.27kg and offers 40GB of extra storage.

The X360 has a 128GB solid state drive, a ten hour battery life and will be available in both red and black versions.

Powering Samsung's latest ultra-slim laptop will be Intel's Centrino 2 processor.

Both the AirBook and the X360 have full-size keyboards and like the AirBook, Samsung's new notebook can be custom-built to order with a maximum price tag of £1,700.

As well as beating the AirBook on the weight issue, Samsung claims the X360 – which is significantly thicker than the Apple's offering – has a 25-50 per cent quicker boot up time.
