Blackberry battles Apple

Blackberry's latest high-end mobile phone offering could hit UK stores this weekend, according to tech news site vnunet.com.

The new Blackberry Bold 9000 – which has a striking resemblance to Apple's iPhone – will be available at Orange and Carphone Warehouse shops across the country.

Blackberry's new quad-band phone which boasts a full qwerty keyboard, high speed downlink packet access, 3G and GPS navigation, will be available for free for users taking out a £40 a month contract with Orange, according to vnunet.com.

The Bold 9000 also has a built-in camera, corporate email support and built in Wi-Fi for free wireless internet access.

According to PC Advisor, the new Blackberry Bold 9000 is a "fantastically well connected, well-designed and well-constructed smartphone".

The computing news site said that Blackberry had taken its lead from a plethora of well designed phones like the iPhone and Nokia E71 to deliver a compact device that meets expectations.
