The underwear industry needs to do more to encourage women to treat themselves to new items, it has been claimed.
A Mintel survey has revealed that 60 per cent of ladies only buy new underwear when their old pants and bras need replacing and less than a third opt for matching sets, reports the Daily Mail.
Nearly two-thirds claimed to spend less than £10 a month on new knickers and 36 per cent said they buy multipacks.
M&S was named as the top store for underwear, with 51 per cent of women stating that this was where they buy their new pants.
Mintel senior fashion analyst Katrin Magnussen remarked: "Despite the return of saucy Burlesque shows by Dita von Teese and others, British women still take a functional and practical approach to underwear and clearly don't see it as something that can be really sexy and alluring."
Previous research by the firm found that 30 per cent of Brits want to pay as little as possible for new clothes and 70 per cent really enjoy getting a bargain when they shop.
