Canon has unveiled the replacement camera for its EOS 40D after rumours circulated the web.
Specifications for the new digital SLR EOS 50D an update of the 40D were accidentally leaked on Canon's Chinese website last week.
Despite the company's efforts to quickly remove the offending specs, many amateur photography websites got hold of the details and posted them.
Canon has confirmed the new 50D is a 15.1-megapixel camera, which will be the first to feature Canon's Digic 4 processor.
The camera manufacturer claims the new chip allows 14-bit image processing at increased speeds.
And the new 50D also boasts a self-cleaning CCD and better noise reduction at high ISOs.
Senior vice president and general manager of Canon US's Consumer Imaging Group Yuichi Ishizuka said: "Advanced amateur photographers blur the line between the hobbyist and the professional, looking for professional features and capabilities in their equipment that will allow them to capture that awe-inspiring image."
