News > Celebrity chef recommends poisonous leaves

Celebrity chef Anthony Worrall Thompson has apologised after recommending the use of a potentially fatal herb in salads.
When he was asked by Healthy and Organic Living magazine if he uses any wild ingredients in his cooking he said: "We use a lot of nettles at this time of year, mainly for soup."
"The weed henbane is great in salads," he added.
But henbane, which is a common plant in the UK, is a close relative to deadly nightshade and is a Schedule III poison under the Medicines Act.
The magazine sent out an apology to readers in its latest edition.
Editor Kate Collyns said Mr Thompson had confused the herb with a different edible plant called fat hen.
Mr Thompson also apologised saying: "It's a bit embarrassing, but there have been no reports of any casualties."
