Choosing a wedding dress can be

Planning a wedding can be a "daunting task" and choosing the right dress is one of the most overwhelming aspects, it has been claimed.

According to membership discount programme DealMax, the average bride tries on 17 different dresses at three shops before finally making a decision on what to buy.

The firm recommended that brides-to-be do their research by looking at websites such as Confetti.co.uk and wedding magazines before purchasing a dress.

A dress needs to be practical as well as beautiful, it warned, as one which is too long or frilly could lead to falls and trips down the aisle.

It added: "The 'ideal dress' is not necessarily the one a particular celebrity wore on her wedding or one that resembles Cinderella in every way, but the one that fits her the best, according to her body shape, size and style."

Alliance & Leicester reported that the average British couple spends £2,998 on their wedding outfits.

DealMax advised those planning their big day to try and stay inside a pre-organised budget to minimise the cost.ADNFCR-1399-ID-18621404-ADNFCR
