News > Controversy over 2007 Bordeaux

Dry white 2007 Bordeaux wines are in a league of their own, it has been claimed.
According to the Times, these wines are "gorgeous, vibrant, zesty, citrus and tropical fruit-stashed" due to the region's Indian summer which lasted well into October last year.
Interestingly, various chateaux claimed that the year was distinctly average as workers had to tend the vines and test the grapes more than ever in order to produce a good wine.
Christian Mouiex of Chateau Petrus explained that his workers had to change harvest plans and made a record 15 separate sprays against mildew and rot in the season.
But the newspaper argued that such hard work and determination have paid off and that "most of the offerings that succeeded in 2007 have such low levels of life-enhancing tannin and acidity that they'll make precociously pleasurable drinking from three to ten years of age".
However, famous American wine critic Robert Parker has publicly criticised the 2007 Bordeaux, stating that many are thin, of poor quality and overpriced.
Wine lovers who want to make their own judgement should take a look at the various discounts offered at Oddbins.
