The opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games in London may be directed by Blur frontman Damon Albarn, it was revealed today (September 24th).
Having already worked with artist Jamie Hewlett to create the music and animation for last year's Beijing games, Albarn has apparently been in talks with the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Locog).
According to the Independent, the announcement is expected to be made within the next few months and could see other famous creative minds involved in the opening and closing ceremonies for both the Olympics and the Paralympics.
However, Paul Deighton, chief executive of Locog, told the newspaper that it may not be as spectacular as 2008: "I doubt we will have 20,000 people doing things in unison in our opening ceremony. That's just fine. That's the beauty of the contrast."
Blur recently joined Radiohead and Pink Floyd in collaborating in the battle against laws which would give internet service providers and copyright holders greater power to act against the illegal filesharing of music.
