Plastic Logic is set to unveil the latest incarnation of its digital paper device, which experts believe could make older e-readers obsolete.
Aimed primarily at corporate clients, who will use them for displaying business reports, the new e-readers go on sale next year and will possibly cross-over into the consumer market as digital newspapers, claims Plastic Logic.
Richard Archuleta, the chief executive of Plastic Logic, said: "Even though we have positioned this for business documents, newspapers are what everyone asks for."
The latest e-paper device will use Wi-Fi technology and users can upload PDF, Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents to it.
E-readers use digital ink technology to display text and images. They do not give out any light and can be read in bright conditions, unlike LCD screens.
Companies are already developing the technology to create flexible displays and although only available in black and white, a colour version of e-ink is on the cards.
