A sales surge in both the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 were recorded over the Easter break, according to Digital Spy.
Citing Chart Track data, the news source reported that sales of the Xbox 360 increased by 78 per cent, while sales of Sony's PlayStation 3 rose by 73 per cent during the Easter break.
It is also thought that a number of newly-released games may have helped fuel sales over the Easter holiday, including Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas 2.
Meanwhile, it was reported last week that an Xbox 360 'price war' may have been sparked when e-tailers Play.com and Amazon slashed the price of the Xbox 360 Arcade from the recommended retail price of £159.99 to £149.99.
It appears supermarket retailer Tesco followed suit on Friday, indicating the console is at its lowest price since it was launched, Digital Spy reported.
The price of the Xbox 360 Arcade model was slashed on March 14th from £199.99.
