The Thai government has banned Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto after a nineteen-year-old claimed the game had motivated him to kill a taxi driver.
According to Thai police, Polwat Chinno blamed his obsession with the violent computer game after stabbing to death a taxi driver before stealing his cab.
Chinno, a Bangkok student, could face the death penalty for the crime.
Chief investigator Veeravit Pipattanasak told Reuters that "[Chinno] wanted to find out if it was as easy in real life to rob a taxi as it was in the game."
And Ladda Thangsupachai, director of the Thai Culture Ministry's cultural surveillance centre, said: "This time-bomb has already exploded and the situation could get worse."
Under the new regulations imposed by the Thai government anyone stocking the game could face three years in prison and a 100,000 baht (£1,500) fine.
Rockstar has sold more than 70 million games from its Grand Theft Auto series since it was introduced in 1997.
