Nintendo could be working on a HD version of its popular Wii console, according to a technology sector analyst.
Michael Pachter, who works for investment firm Wedbush Morgan, envisages a second Nintendo Wii console surfacing in the next two years.
And Mr Pachter expects the console manufacturer to take full advantage of the latest HD technology and introduce a standard gaming controller to allow many more games to be ported to the device.
He said: "It's easy to envision a Wii 2 in a couple of years that runs at full HD and has both a Wii-mote and an analog controller, so that all games can be ported to it."
The comments come after Sega chief executive Scott Steinberg voiced his concern over the limited "creative depth of the Wii pool".
Sega recently teamed up with Japanese cosmetic company Shiseido to produce Project Beauty a game to be released on the Nintendo DS later this year that allows players to apply makeup to pictures of themselves.
