Microsoft has unveiled the latest interface for its new Windows operating system a multi-touch system similar to the one on Apple's iPhone.
The company revealed the new technology at the All Things Digital conference in San Diego in a move the marks Microsoft's continued interest in touch-screen devices.
Microsoft founder Bill Gates claimed that the short demonstration was a small snippet of the new software's capabilities, which the company claims will blow away users of the Apple iPhone.
Speaking at the conference, Mr Gates said: "The way you interact with the system will change dramatically."
"Today almost all the interaction is keyboard-mouse. Over years to come, the role of speech, vision, ink - all of those things - will be huge," he added.
Windows Vista, the latest version of Microsoft's popular operating system, received mixed reviews by users and critics alike, and despite selling more than 150 million copies many people are turning their backs on the product.
Research by Devil Mountain Software found that 35 per cent of people who had bought a PC with a copy of Windows Vista installed had downgraded to Windows XP.
