Technology-firm LG has unveiled its latest foray into the Netbook market at Berlin's IFA 2008.
LG's X110 Netbook comes with a ten-inch screen with a resolution of 1,024 x 600 pixels, 1GB of RAM, a 1.6GHz processor and a choice of either an 80GB or 120GB hard disk drive.
The firm surprised experts by revealing it will use Microsoft's Windows XP operating system, as opposed to an operating system built around the open-source Linux kernel.
Also included under the hood is a built-in 3G HSDPA for internet connectivity, alongside standard wireless and wired internet technology.
Jeon Kwang Yung, LG Electronics PC division vice-president, said: "The 3G embedded and stylish X110 will provide customers with a totally new concept in mobile telecommunications."
According to PC Pro, the Netbook market is becoming crowded, with competitors including Lenovo, Asus and Packard Bell.
But a report in the Business Standard said that manufacturers' decision to start using proprietary software in their Netbooks, as opposed to open source software was a major development.
