Amid the January sales, many people may have taken the opportunity to save money and book a last-minute holiday.
With this in mind, a spokesperson for Heathrow Airport has commented on the most popular destinations and which flights are commonly chosen by passengers.
Top of the list, said Damon Hunt, is New York, while the second most popular flight from Heathrow is Paris.
Dublin is third and Amsterdam fourth - possibly due to these locations being hotspots for stag and hen parties.
Frankfurt, Edinburgh and Hong Kong are also top destinations, Mr Hunt continued, followed by Los Angeles, Dubai and Glasgow.
"That list has stayed fairly static over the last couple of years," he added.
According to the Association of British Travel Agents, UK residents took a total of 70 million holidays and other trips abroad during 2007, with travel to the US increasing in popularity by three per cent.
