Future editions of basic iPod devices - such as the iPod shuffle and the iPod nano - may share a number of similarities to their more advanced siblings such as the iPhone, it has been suggested.
Cnet.com speculated that as the iPod touch and iPhone increase in popularity, other versions of the iPod will have to be modified in order to keep up with trends in technology.
Although additional storage space was named as one of the most obvious improvements, the site also suggested that up-and-coming editions of the iPod shuffle and iPod nano could include other features such as Wi-Fi capability or hosted games in order to keep the firm's edge in the current mp3 player market.
"Apple has traditionally focused on making high-end products with great design that are easy to use," the website stated, though it added that in recent years, high-end mobile phones with increased storage space and mp3 functionality may give the iPod a run for its money.
The iTunes music service currently lists Violet Hill, the newest single from Coldplay, as the top music download in the UK.
