A new camera from Nikon is set to be the first of its kind to support video capture.
The photography giant announced the SLR Nikon D90, which will sell for between $1000 (£541) and $1300, on Wednesday.
Among the new features for the product, which will replace the D80 model, are video capture and recording capabilities, making it the first of its kind to offer high-definition recording.
The camera is expected to go on sale in the UK in October and will allow 24-frames per second 1280x720 motion JPEG and AVI movies to be made.
However, recordings can only run for a maximum of five minutes and will feature monaural sound, with exposure fixed for the length of the film.
Other features of the product include a new Expeed processor which, Nikon claims will allow 4.5 images-per-second to be shot, with a start-up time of 0.15 seconds.
Meanwhile, Olympus has this week announced its new Stylus 1050 SW camera, which will include shock and waterproof features, reports website Cnet.com.
