The amount spent by consumers online has risen again, according to the most recent IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index.
Despite a fall in disposable income among buyers, the amount spent on stores based online rose by 11 per cent month-on-month to £4.8 billion in July.
In contrast, the British Retail Consortium has shown that in the same period high street sales fell by 0.9 per cent.
Clothing bought online saw the biggest rises, with 22.8 per cent more pieces being bought over the internet, something the survey attributes to unseasonably cold weather.
Gifts saw falls, reducing their sales by five per cent month-on-month.
Mike Petevinos, Capgemini's head of consulting for retail, said online shops were faring much better than their high street equivalents.
"The increase in clothing and footwear sales demonstrates consumers' ever increasing familiarity with e-retailing, extending their shopping behaviour into more and more categories," he added.
Figures released last week by the Office for National Statistics showed growth in the UK has stagnated at zero per cent.
