SanDisk has unveiled a 16GB removable memory card for mobile phones in the micro-SD format.
The memory manufacturer claims its latest memory card will change the way mobile phones are used.
SanDisk's latest storage device will be compatible with many existing products and will work in digital cameras, video recorders, MP3 (cap down) players and Satnav systems.
Avi Greengart, research director for mobile devices at Current Analysis, told eweek.com: "Handsets have become far more than just phones."
"There is an acute need for more mobile storage capacity. 16GB gives consumers the ability to carry their digital content with them," he added.
In related news, the number of mobile phone handsets on the global market is expected to reach almost four billion by the end of the year, according to new research.
The International Telecommunications Union claims that developing countries are partly responsible for the increase in mobile phone up-take.
