News > Pregnant women 'should avoid heels'

Trainers made out of a breathable fabric are the best footwear choice for pregnant women, it has been claimed.
Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Michael O'Neill of the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists explained that women who are expecting children need a fully supportive shoe which grips their feet.
He claimed that this is only important during the second and third trimester, as those in their first trimester are free to buy fashionable heels and shoes from retailers such as Faith.
However, both flip flops and heels are not advisable in the later stages of pregnancy, he said.
"Pregnant women look stupid in heels," Mr O'Neill claimed. "Because their centre of gravity changes, they lean back to maintain their balance. In heels
they have to lean back even farther."
The Mirror recently reported that although there is no medical risk in pregnant women wearing heels, they have to be extra careful to not fall over and harm their baby.
