Prince William vows not to be 'an ornament'

Prince William has claimed that he wants to take a more active stance when it comes to royal duties, building on the charitable work of his relatives.

Praising the actions of his father, Prince Charles of Wales and his late mother Diana Spencer, the 27-year-old said he was aiming to combine the "best bits of both of their charitable lives" to help people in the future.

Speaking at the Princes' Charities Forum, William, who is second in line to the throne, also claimed the Queen Mother, his grandmother, was a big inspiration.

He told the crowd: "There's a time and a place for being an ornament as such - or, you know, shaking hands and being at an engagement and showing support in that way. But I think there's an awful lot more (to be gained) from actually doing stuff."

Rap artist Dizzee Rascal jokingly told William's brother Prince Harry that he would have hit him in the face if it wasn't for the fact he is royalty, after the pair exchanged playful boxing moves at the O2 Wireless festival, the Daily Telegraph recently reported.
