InFocus have released a new digital projector which could bring the devices to the home cinema mass market, according to T3.
Offering a 720p resolution image, the InFocus X9 is a DLP widescreen projector which uses Texas Instuments' BrilliantColor technology.
It also boasts a contrast ratio of 2,500:1, a brightness of 1,800 lumens and can project an image up to 9.13 metres.
Costing £499, the projector will be available in the UK in October.
T3 said: "Admittedly, its low price does mean there are weaknesses. For starters, there is no way you're getting that 9.13m viewing area unless you have a lounge that's 12m long."
According to cnet.com, lamps are the Achilles heel of digital projectors, which the news site claims can cost a large percentage of the total cost of a projector.
However, the website claims a replacement bulb for the X9, which has full HDMI connectivity, costs £120.
