In advance of the launch of a new movie download service for the PlayStation 3, rumours are circulating that Sony is working on negotiations with a number of movie studios.
Last week, Peter Dille, senior marketing boss at Sony, wrote on his online blog that the new service may be different "from others you've seen or used".
Citing the LA Times, Digital Spy anticipates that the system will likely be comparable to Microsoft's Xbox Live Video Marketplace.
But Mr Dille asserted that although more details will be released on the new service "very soon", it will work to "break through the overwhelming clutter of digital media to give you the TV, movies and gaming content you want".
In related gaming news, it also emerged this week that the bestselling Guitar Hero franchise - which is available at games retailers including HMV, Amazon and Game - is set to undergo further developments, including the addition of a larger selection of instruments and vocals.
The newest Guitar Hero game - entitled Guitar Hero: Aerosmith - will be released on Sony's PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 consoles, as well as the Nintendo Wii and the Xbox 360, in July.
