Laptop manufacturer Sony has announced a recall of almost 440,000 laptops after reports the portable computers are susceptible to over-heating.
In America, 15 of the company's Vaio laptops have over-heated and in one case caused a user minor burns, according to the US Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC).
The CPSC said the fault was a result of "irregularly positioned wires near the computer's hinge and/or a dislodged screw inside the hinge" and that it "poses a burn hazard to consumers".
It said the models affected by the fault were the company's VGN-TZ100, TZ200, TZ300 and TZ2000 laptops.
According to gizmodo.com, none of the laptops subject to the recall were sold in the UK.
Sony had to recall an estimated 300,000 battery packs from its Vaio VGP-BPS2B and VGP-BPS3A laptops after reports of short-circuiting, which had the potential to make the batteries a fire hazard.
Computerweekly.com reported the fault was due to microscopic metal particles in the batteries.
