Ethical and environmentally-aware shoppers do not have to pay more for their stylish clothes, according to an expert.
Life and Style editor at the Guardian Unlimited, Kate Carter, has selected six designer labels that stick to the rules of eco-shopping.
Among these six is designer Camilla Norrback, who avoids chic that will last only one season and utilises fabrics with certified environmental standards.
Ms Carter also highlights the shoe designs of Kitty Cooper - noting that many shoppers have problems sourcing footwear that does not stamp on their personal ethics.
"Those wishing to avoid leather are often left with clumpy sandals or delicate shoes that fall apart," she writes. "So Kitty Cooper uses recycled, naturally dyed leathers with vintage fabrics."
The capsule collection by Fairtrade pioneer People Tree, which now partners with high-profile designers such as Thakoon and Richard Nicholl, is also worthy of a second look, she suggests.
Other designers mentioned were Ciel, Noir designer Peter Ingwersen and new label Viridis Luxe.
Fairtrade farmers are paid a minimum price for their cotton.
