Online voucher codes could offer "bargains" for savvy consumers, an internet shopping expert has suggested.
Simon Crisp, director of Shopsafe.co.uk, claimed that the fashion sector was "massive on the internet" and is benefiting from more consumers moving online.
However, he added that there are discounts to be had across a number of retail sectors online and suggested that household goods is another area expected to see growth this year.
"Especially in these times of the credit crunch, people are just looking for bargains and for deals and online is the place to get [them]," he said.
"One of the big trends with online shopping at the moment are these discount codes and vouchers - secret sales if you will -where huge names are giving out codes where you can go and get ten or 15 per cent off," he added.
A report from the IMGR Capgemini e-retail sales index indicated that online sales in February 2008 increased by 46 per cent compared to web sales from the previous year.
In 2007, it is estimated that 15 per cent of all retail purchases were made online, with around £46.6 billion spent at web retailers during the year.
