The world's most expensive beef burger went on sale at a fast-food restaurant in London today for £95.
Heading for the Guinness book of records, Burger King's The Burger is made from Japanese Wagyu beef supposedly the most succulent in the world topped with white truffles, onion tempura prepared in cristal champagne and Pata Negra prosciutto and served in an Iranian saffron and truffle bun.
Critics have dismissed The Burger as a cheap publicity stunt and have accused Burger King of following in the footsteps of Selfridges, which charged £85 for a sandwich in 2006, and Peter Jones which offered a cup of coffee pre-digested by a Civet cat for £50.
David Kisilevsky, vice president of marketing at the fast food chain, said: "The Burger is an extension of Burger King's quality burger menu and is aimed at burger aficionados, looking for the ultimate burger taste experience."
According to thebeefsite.com, during summer Wagyu cattle are given the best Japanese beers to drink because it increases their appetite.
