With so much on offer in London, the choice can be quite overwhelming! So here is a little selection of things to do and places to visit:

Icebar London by Icehotel

Even if it’s not snowing outside, the Icebar will make sure that you have a wintery evening indoors. Being the only permanent bar made of ice in the UK - kept at a cool minus 5 degrees - you can experience a world made out of ice. However, you won’t freeze because you will be provided with a trendy designer cape to keep the chill at bay whilst you enjoy a cocktail from a glass made of ice.

Winter Wonderland

This magical town created in Hyde Park, opens its gates from 19/11/10 to 04/01/2011. With free entry into the park, you can enjoy a brilliant selection of funfair rides, new Cirque D’Hiver circus, Santa land, food and drink stalls and of course, you can get tickets to enjoy outdoor ice skating! This is a great day out for the entire family that is sure to get everyone into the Christmas spirit!

Christmas Lights go on at Bond Street
If you’re planning to do some late night shopping, then what better way to have a break than to stop and watch the lights being turned on? Between 5pm and 8pm on Thursday 18th November, you can get in the mood with carols, live music, street entertainers, reindeer and guaranteed snow, despite whatever the actual weather may be doing! The lights will be switched on at 6pm, so don’t be late!

Christmas on Sale

As much as Christmas Day is loved, so are the sales over the festive season. After all, there are so many to take advantage of. You have the pre-Christmas, Christmas, Boxing Day, Seasonal, after Christmas and January sales taking place in a short period of time.

Not only have you got the choice of all these different sales, but the offers are amazing with most of the top high street brands having sales up to 70% off. They are also the best performing sales of the year which is always quite surprising when you think that everyone would have spent all their money for gifts and presents; yet nothing stands in the way of the sale hungry shoppers over the Christmas period, whether it be wind, rain or lack of money in the bank account.

In 2009 retailers enjoyed their best December growth for eight years as like-for-like sales rose 4.2%. There were various reasons why the sales were so successful last year; one being the cold and miserable weather which saw warm winter clothing sales boosted.

The bad weather also encouraged shoppers to buy online, and sites which began their sales on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day did well. Expect companies to do the same this year as the weather is again predicted to be cold and miserable. High street brands love predictable trends and will try and make the most out of these opportunities, with online sales increases predicted to rise by a staggering 25% in Europe over the festive season.

The UK consumers are predicted to be the biggest spenders over the festive season, splashing out an astonishing £67 billion of the predicted £271 billion across Europe.

“Britons will spend £6.4 billion pounds online this Christmas, up 16 percent on last year and bucking sluggish in-store sales as shoppers focus on convenience and price” read Reuters.

Another factor that contributes to the success of the Christmas sales via online sales are online vouchers that you can combine with the already fantastic offers to save yourself even more money.

Director of Information at IMRG has said:

“Despite a continuing decline in consumer confidence, the online retail market is growing ahead of our expectations, with a double-digit rise in yearly sales recorded in each quarter of 2010. Concerns over the impending Government spending cuts, VAT increase and job security, together with falling average households’ disposable income, are all contributing to driving this positive e-retail performance as consumers turn to online retailers to secure the best deals”

The recent findings revealed that online sales have seen a steady year-on-year increase throughout 2010.

We here at MyVoucherCodes are well aware of this trend and are here to help by supplying everyone with some fantastic vouchers codes that you can redeem at online high stores which will make your Christmas all the more affordable.

MVC Staff Tell of Their Best and Worst Xmas Experiences

These are some of the staffs previous best and worst experiences of Christmas, please enjoy and feel free to comment.

Christmas 2009…

Seeing my parents has become much more of a joy since they moved away. I now appreciate their company a lot more, especially at Christmas. Last year I stayed at my parents place for 5 days, which was great because it meant unlimited free food and drink – good times!

My visit started off super civilised – kind of - as I told my parents my dreams and life aspirations, and the more I rambled on the more I felt like a mature grown up! However this was short lived…

My first of two Christmas days went without a hiccup. I helped prepare a fantastic Christmas dinner, engaged in more ‘worldly’ conversation and was an all round dutiful daughter – go me!

My step brothers came out on Boxing Day, so we had Christmas day, round 2, the day after. This is where I started my downhill spiral into drunken oblivion; accidentally of course. I made a feeble attempt to cook, but I failed miserably due to drinking slightly too early. By the time evening arrived, I was out for the count on the sofa.

Even being dragged down our stone stairs failed to wake me, and yes… photographic evidence was provided the next day. When I finally did wake, I was sent to bed by my mum which spelt an end for the ‘new sophisticated me’. Luckily everyone saw the funny side apart from me – I felt like I had been run over by a sled and at least 5 reindeer the next day!

A Good Christmas experience

The highlight of every year for me has got to be Christmas. It’s the one day I look forward to all year round. Looking outside my bedroom window to see everything covered in beautiful, white snow, the Christmas lights on the front of my house and putting up the tree. We all get together and decorate it as a family. The presents, food and excitement; every bit of it is just amazing and fun.

There’s always something about every Christmas which we remember and reminisce for years to come. My favourite Christmas was when I was 11… I remember it like it was yesterday. It was a Friday and Granddad Derek, who lives in Australia and only visits every few years, flew over and surprised the entire family.

The funny thing is that everything went wrong that year. There was no snow. Mum ‘forgot’ to invite Nana Sue. There wasn’t enough pudding for everyone. The tree fell over; all the lights got tangled and stopped working. But I didn’t care. I had my granddad sitting next to me at the table and I couldn’t have asked for anything better.

Sonia

Christmas comes early

The first Christmas experience that I recall was when I was 5. It was spent with the whole family at my grandparents in York. We spent every Christmas holiday in York as we always went to the pantomime; it was our tradition.

Anyway it was the night before Christmas, when all through the house, not a creature was stirring…erm, hang on a minute. Not quite how it happened…

We spent Christmas Eve around the fire, putting our pillow cases underneath the tree in anticipation of them being overfilled with presents in the morning. Myself, my younger brother and my older sister were all sent to bed, but being the rascals that we were we decided to head down a few hours later to see if Santa had already been.

Creeping down the stairs full of excitement as quietly and carefully as we could, we passed by the kitchen heading towards the front room where the Christmas tree stood. The doors to the front room were frosted glass pane and we couldn’t make anything out other than sparkling lights. We crept into the living room, the coals still smouldering from the fire and the Christmas tree towering over us. Mouths dropped as we were greeted with pillow cases overflowing with presents of all shapes and sizes. Santa had been; he had filled our pillow cases with everything we could have ever wanted.

It was time to head back up stairs to bed, wasn’t it? Nah, Let’s open one each and then head back up!

Very nervously, we each selected a present and sat down together. I was about to take the lead and unwrap my present when suddenly – ” Ho ho ho, what are you up to cheeky children.” – Grandpa was still sat in his seat watching the smouldering fire after putting the presents under the tree .

My sister broke out a shrilling scream and bolted towards the stairs; getting caught in the confusion and commotion my brother and I fell over each other, scared to death we tried to steady ourselves and head for the stairs. My brother made it through the door; however, I was caught by the collar and I thought my end had come. Screaming at the top of my voice I turned to face my captor.

Relief washed over my whole body as I was greeted with a huge cheeky smile from my granddad. By then my parents had been awoken by all the noise and made it downstairs . Our punishment fit the crime, I suppose.

We tried to open the presents early, so we had to open them later than usual; not opening them until the afternoon of Christmas day sat -  sulking around the dinner table until we could.

Chris

A christmas poem

So let’s picture the scene…

It was the night before Christmas,

and all through the land,

All the shopping centres were busy,

This was the consumerist plan.

I had purchased a football, an American one

Deciding to throw it, like Americans have done.

Told my friend to go long, to catch the ball,

When in mid-air it deflected, after hitting a wall.

It bounced in the direction, of jolly old Santa Claus,

Knocking him out, on to the floor,

The grotto was stun, children began to cry,

When the ball had hit Saint Nick right in the eye.

Carted behind the ambulance, was Kris cringle’s sleigh

Leaving me, trying to keep three hundred angry mothers at bay,

Feeling terrible for what I had done with my ball,

I knew that this Christmas, all I would get is coal.

Christmas Food and Drink

Christmas meals are amazing! You get to eat as much as humanly possible with the knowledge that all of the weight you gained can be blamed on the season – lovely! Everyone celebrates the holiday season differently and whether or not you actually enjoy spending time with the family, we all enjoy the food, right? Oh yes we do!

We are all familiar with these top ten lists of Christmas food and drink, with many of us having differences in the best Christmas meal.

turkey thumbnailRoast Turkey

There are so many ways to prepare turkey. Even the traditional whole turkey we serve for Christmas can be roasted, smoked, or deep-fried. Whilst most people like to cook their turkey as a whole, some families like to cut it up in pieces, cook with seasoned spices and then fry it with bacon. :D

Whatever your method in preparing turkey for your Christmas meal, the most important thing is that they taste really good?

Roast Goosegoose

Now, you may find this quite an odd one, but a lot of families prefer to have Roast Goose instead of turkey for Christmas. Like the turkey, one of the biggest challenges when roasting a goose is the legs take longer than the breasts. The breasts dry out in the oven while you’re waiting for the legs to cook. Paying attention to the goose by rotating it every 15mins or so will solve this issue, leaving you with a delicious goose to enjoy with a variety of meals to accompany it.

roast potatoes thumbnailRoast Potatoes

Speaking of accompaniments, the roast potato is perfect to go with your roast meat. Roast potatoes don’t even have to be seasoned heavily to enjoy! Adding something as simple as a few fresh herbs or spices for the roasting really accentuates the taste of the potatoes from being nice, to absolutely delicious. If necessary, you can even eat the roast potatoes alone and be satisfied, but with roasted meat, you just can’t help but love this time of year!

Mince Piesmince pies

Okay, let’s be honest here… How many of you buy enough mince pies to last until Christmas Day, but somehow end up eating them all before Christmas Eve, or even…? …Is it just me? Okay, well, err… never mind!

rosesCadbury Roses

There’s something really satisfying about the rattle of the chocolate tin that makes saving them for the main event. On the other hand, it’s quite hard to resist opening the tin before Christmas Day.

My mum always used to give the tin to my dad to hide from me before Christmas. It used to be hard restraining myself but it was always worth it. I always appreciated waiting when we finally opened the tin. There are certain elements of Christmas that symbolise the day, and having Cadbury Roses is definitely one of them. Long live the tradition!

christmas cakeChristmas Cake

Christmas cakes pull out all the stops to bring the family together. Having this with the entire family in the living room while watching a movie is always a joy! Whether your cake is home-baked or bought from the store, you always enjoy it better with family and friends.

eggnogEggnog

Having Eggnog during the holiday is one of those traditions that are either hated or cherished. Some rail at the foamy, milky substance as if it were an abomination; others laud it to the skies. However you feel about eggnog, there is no denying that millions of people sample it and enjoy it every year around the holidays; but especially during Christmas.

Red Winered wine

There are a lot of books about Red Wine available, so it’s very easy choosing which ones are best, particularly if you are looking for some help in selecting which wines to buy and ultimately drink.

Some of the stores offering great deals on wines are:
Promo Deal Personalised Red Wine Now £17 at The Gift Experience
£6 Off Spainish Senorio de Prayla Rioja Red Wine at Winedeals
£3 Off Argentina Las Moras Malbec Red Wine at Winedeal

champagneChampagne

Champagne is the one substance that my aunties like to drink when they come over in the morning to help with the meal preparations. The sound of a group of women drinking lightly and gossiping symbolises the start of the family get-together.

Mulled Winered mullery

If you like to have a bit of warmth or indeed, spice to your wine, then mulled wine is your choice of liquor for the festive season. In the midst of winter, in the long dark and cold evening, a warm and rosy cheer is brought about by a nice hot mulled wine shared amongst a group of friends or neighbours. The really great thing with mulled wine is it tends to be better with rough dark red wines.

Top 10 Gadgets & Gifts

This Christmas is going to be gadget crazy as they, above anything else, are leading the way; even with the kids as the Apple brand is dominating the Christmas lists.

iPhone 4 It has had its fair share of criticism since it came out earlier this year; however, the Apple iPhone 4 is most likely to be the biggest selling gadget on the market. Apple’s launch of the iPhone 4 has seen the greatest excitement for a new phone ever – and with HD video recording, a super high-res screen and ridiculously slim dimensions, it’s not hard to see why.

iPod touchAs said, Apple will dominate. The iPod touch has been the world’s premium MP3 player for some time now even though it may not be the best; but that’s what the power of branding can do for you, and with the launch of the new iPod touch 4G model, that doesn’t look like changing.

iPadI promise this is the last Apple product on this list; however, it has to be on there. The iPad… what is the fuss all about? The iPad essentially revolutionises the concept of a tablet computer. Previously tablet devices addressed a legitimate consumer need – casual, lazy, couch-bound computing - but left most people frustrated with a stylus-driven handwriting recognition system and an OS that was really designed to be used on a desktop PC.

Nintendo 3DS– Nintendo have focused on creating a new hand held gaming system rather than producing a new Wii console, and what they have come up with is Nintendo 3DS which allows players to play the latest games in 3D without using special glasses. It remains to be seen whether the latest 3D craze will be a fad or the future of gaming, but this product is unique and will definitely be up there as a ‘Christmas 2010 top gadget’.

Commodore PC64 – Jump back in time to the 90s and you will find the best selling computer of all time was the Commodore 64; which sold over 30 million units. Now take the ubiquitous Commodore 64 chassis and insert modern technology and you end up with the Commodore PC64. Commodore USA have promised to produce this little retro looking PC in time for Christmas. With its retro design and nostalgic essence, it could be the surprise top gadget for Christmas 2010.

The anti-gravity platform – It is as cool as it sounds. Thanks to several powerful magnets, this amazing mains-powered device is capable of mimicking the effect of anti-gravity and levitating metal objects; and you can levitate almost anything.

Simply place any item on the magnetic disk provided and the anti-gravity platform will use the force of electromagnetism to cause it to rise up and then it’ll stabilize a few inches in the air. Then, if you want to rotate your floating item, simply give it a nudge with your finger and the lack of friction, combined with the magnetic forces in play, will cause it to spin in circles until you stop it; making a great desktop talking point.

The SlanketIt’s the blanket with arms and surely to be one of the biggest selling items of the year. We know that everyone loves to loaf on the sofa snuggled up in a blanket, but it is so annoying when you reach for something and the blanket opens, letting  in the cold air - brrrr. Coming a variety of colours, the slanket is the ideal Christmas gift to keep you snug and warm as it covers your entire body from head to toe and will also save on your heating bills.

The Original Slush MugWe all love a good slushy no matter how old or young we are and now you can have one almost anywhere we go without much fuss. Enter the original slush mug; all you do is freeze the liner out it back in the device, add your favourite drink and leave it for about 5 minutes and e voila you have your slush puppy.

Robot Vacuum Cleaner XR AdvancedAre you tired of doing the vacuuming week in-week out? Well look no further than the XR advanced, a robotic vacuum cleaner, that came out July this year. This nifty robotic vacuum cleaner automatically cleans your floors and recharges its power without you ever having to lift a finger. It sweeps up your floor with its integrated counter rotating bristle brushes and beater brush that work together vacuuming up all the dust and dirt. You can also program it to clean at a desired time, and its object sensors mean it will not get stuck in corners or fall down the stairs.

The Wand TV Remote Control – This is definately one for the Harry Potter fans out there. This wand is totally different to anything you will have waggled before – it can control the telly. In fact, it can control most things that require a remote control, making you appear to be able to perform some pretty incredible leisure-orientated magic tricks; and what’s more is that you won’t even need to spout gibberish spells to do it.

After you’ve learnt the basics you’ll be able to programme your wand to control the volume, channel, brightness or whatever a normal remote can do. A turning motion will control the volume, a sweep up or down will move the channel forward or back a step and double-tapping the side will perform whatever you assign it. Expelliarmus!!

Great Christmas Activities 2010

The pantomime – A visit to the pantomime is as much a part of Christmas as decorating the tree and giving presents. Do you start to think of Pantomime Dames, Horses and Cows as soon as the tinsel hits the shops? Maybe you just love to go to the theatre. Whether you go for the terrible jokes or to see your favourite television personalities, the pantomime is especially a great family day out.

He’s behind you!!

Christmas Mass– A lot of people attend Christmas Eve Mass in their local church. If you are ever fortunate enough to find yourself in Rome over the holidays, then you will be able to attend St Peter’s Square on Christmas Eve as every year the Pope gives Midnight Mass. The Pope’s Christmas Eve speech is made in front of a vast crown and broadcast to over 40 countries. Visitors to this occasion need to reserve tickets through the Prefettura della Casa Pontificia.

Christmas Eve drinks down the local – It’s Christmas Eve, you have just finished work and are heading home walking past the local pub which is rocking; you think to yourself you might as well pop in for one before you head off home, because frankly, it would be rude not to. If it’s anything like my local, you will be greeted with a cheer and song when you walk through the door. The fire is burning brightly, the drink is flowing lightly and everyone is singing along to their favourite Christmas songs.

Christmas office party – It’s the one everybody looks forward to even if they don’t admit it; yes, it’s time for the office party. Time to break out your embarrassing moves on the dance floor, kiss the colleague you have a crush on under the mistletoe and generally have a good time before you break off for your Christmas holidays.

Snowball fight – If you are fortunate enough to have a White Christmas in your area then you can play in the yard with your kids, building snow forts and having snow ball fights. If there is a promising hill in your area you can go sledding. Make the winter season your natural playground, but make sure everyone dresses warmly.

Christmas markets – The Christmas markets have a continental theme to them and are influenced with German, Swiss and French aspects, and what’s more is you will be able to find that delicious mulled wine which makes every Christmas perfect on just about every stall.

These markets are a fantastic place to spend the evening supping on mulled wine, munching on German sausages and listening to carol singers which will really get you in the Christmas spirit. There are over 150 of these Christmas markets over the UK from London to Manchester over to Belfast and beyond.

Ice skating – Ice skating outdoors is on the rise, especially in London where it has really taken off. People talk about the beauty and magic of ice skating outdoors, but have you ever seen the English skate? For us it seems to be more about the bruises and bumps we end up with, as you find yourself constantly falling on your backside, but that’s the whole fun about the occasion. Of course, you are bound to get the odd show off pirouetting and skating backwards, but that’s nothing a little nudge can’t fix. Most of the ice rinks are open from November through January.

Turning on the Christmas lights – The turning onof the Christmas lights are always a great public occasion to take part in. What makes them so special isn’t the “celebrity” who turns on the lights, but the suspension that builds before the switch is flicked revealing the magic of the Christmas spirit within each bulb. If you don’t get to see the turning on of the Christmas lights, walking around the beautifully lit up streets and buildings at night as a sight to behold.

Carol singing – Going carol singing with your children is something else that you can do. There is nothing like going out on a brisk winter night with friends, family, and neighbours, singing beloved Christmas songs and spreading Christmas cheer. You will help to brighten the mood of people in your neighbourhood and do an activity that can become a family tradition and fond memory for your children.

Christmas TV – Sitting in front of the box all day is often a favourite too as there are loads of great shows and films on Christmas Day, as well as throughout the festive season. Football on Boxing Day, the Queens speech and of course, all your favourite soaps with their special Christmas editions will hit the air waves.

Christmas Gifts for kids

I have no kids, so you could argue that I am not an expert in that department. But at the same time I am not completely a grown up, so I think that qualifies me to give ideas on Christmas gifts for kids. Some say immature, but I like to think of myself as young at heart, but what’s important is that your kids are happy with their gifts come Christmas morning.

What’s more, I’ve selected toys and gifts that are sure to keep them entertained for hours, so you get the double the pleasure; not that seeing their happy faces isn’t good enough! :)

buzz light year: perfect gift for kidsToy story buzz light year

This years release of the blockbuster Toy Story 3 movie has made this item an easy choice for the kids top ten. Buzz Light year is the goofy hero astronaut which every kid would love to have this Christmas.

Despite not having any children myself – I’m holding out for a couple of years - I would bet that this could be one of the biggest selling items this Christmas. Order early, make sure of your delivery dates and you’ll have a happy Christmas. Miss it, though, and you’ll never forgive yourself.

great gift for kidsNerf and strike stampede ECS-50

Now we’re talking! This is so cool that even I want one for Christmas! Last years water pistol just isn’t giving me the kicks I need. It’s time to upgrade!

This magnificent machine has an 18 dart clip and is easy to replace when under rapid fire. It comes complete with a blast shield to provide some extra cover and 3 other clips to keep the ammunition coming. The pop out bipod gives added stability and you’ll get one 6 clip to keep under wraps until the very last. Never Surrender!!!!!

On the adult side, it only comes in yellow and batteries are sold separately. This is another winner for boys!

Pleo gifts for kidsPleo dinosaur

For kids under 8 this is gift that will keep them entertained for hours in months to come. This little piece of genius will actually keep the entire family entertained.  Pleo is like having a family pet that doesn’t poop, stays cute and you can switch off.  Its interactive sensory and reacting gestures are amazing. If I didn’t read the product bio I wouldn’t believe my eyes! This is an awesome gift and still only available through limited stockists and distributors.

gift for girlsBarbie

Still a huge favourite after more than 50 years, Barbie is safe bet any Christmas; and this one is no different.  Barbie, all her friends and a massive list of accessories are available from all major stockists including Argos and Amazon.

Transformer figurines

Both boys and girls will love these this Christmas. Get all their favourite characters from Bumblebee to Optimus Prime in awesome figurines. There are also helmets of their favourite characters available, so they get to be them.

Justine Bieber singing doll

While I don’t necessarily agree that anyone should be promoting this annoying little boy, I’m sure that this will keep many young girls happy for months to come. Spare a thought for what you’re promoting to your ‘once little’ bundle of joy, but of course, for some peace and quiet I can understand how you could sell yourself to the devil that is Justine Bieber.

I am not judging, in fact I’ll give a limb for some peace and quiet this Christmas. So after after the initial squeal of utter delight on Christmas morning, this is sure to keep your little girl out of site and smiling for a very long time.

Lego: Harry potter, Hogwarts castle

Lego is another kind of toy that has just absolutely stood the test of time, reinventing themselves and staying current for decades. This time it’s their version of the Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Castle that will be focused on this Christmas. This model was created before the final chapter has even been launched, but it is due before Christmas. Be smart and put this under the tree now, because after the Premier, I am certain you will not find anything related till January.

Video games

What would Christmas be without a mass hysteria for video games. There are loads of titles that I’m sure many of you have been holding back from your kids with the idea that you would surprise them at Christmas. Well you’ve done a great job and there are some massive gaming titles across all brands that your kids will love. For the young kids super Mario is still a big seller for the Nintendo Wii, for the more mature gamer there is the new classic Halo reach on Xbox. And on the PS3 there is the new Star Wars -the force unleashed as well as Fall Out New Vegas. All of these games have had great acclaim and are falling from the shelves fast, so order early.

Toy Story 3 DVD

The magic that is Toy story 3 will be release in DVD and Blu Ray on the 29 of November. This is a gift that is suitable for all ages and should be under the Christmas tree. While I’m sure every effort will be made to have massive stock for this award winning final instalment, there can never be a guarantee. No Stockist can predict demand, but I’m going to put my head on the block and say that this is one movie that will be sold out before Christmas day.

We make Christmas shopping less expensive with our selection of toys and games discount codes.

High school musical dance mat

I doubt that this will be sell out this Christmas, but it’s a safe bet this Christmas. Get both girls and boys off the couch and into some physical activity while singing their favourite songs albeit with some of the most annoying characters in all of history. Justine Bieber might has well been created on this show, he can’t be real anyway. This will make be a great gift for your kids and especially your darling little girl.

Be sure you check the last delivery dates for all your stockists and please buy early this Christmas. I think everyone of these items will be red hot this Christmas on the kids lists.

Outdoor Christmas Decorations

1. Outdoor Christmas tree

If you already have a fir or pine tree in your garden then you can decorate that. If not you will be able to purchase large fir or pine trees which you can either plant in your garden and use year after year, or you can get one in a pot which you can decorate and use for the festive period and then throw out.

2. Christmas wreath

If you are looking for minimal decorations then a wreath is very traditional and looks great. You can even make your own by taking a wire wreath frame and adding a looped wire for a hanger. Then, you weave it with olive-green ribbon to cover the wire. Finally, add a spray of red, green and gold coloured artificial materials, with a tartan bow and some gold ribbon streamers.

Remember to make it quite heavy because the wind likes to play with light objects, and the last thing you want is for something that you have made yourself to be blown halfway across the country.

3. Outdoor Christmas lights

Weather-proof white or multi-colour lights are available for outdoor home use and these are the only ones you should be using to light up your homes this Christmas. Before you start putting up the lights, check all the bulbs and repair/discard any broken ones to avoid your entire string becoming short-circuited. If you are buying new lights, look for those with built-in timers to save energy costs.

4. Santa’s Sleigh Lights Display

If you want to go all American on your house and use light displays doing something new. Why not, instead of the usual Santa’s sleigh in your yard, place the sleigh display on the top of your roof securely where the display will be seen by everyone from a distance

5. Santa variations

Hang a large stuffed or blown-up Santa from your window using fishing line or rope. You don’t need to hide the rope because even Santa needs something to climb up and it will only add to the decor. If your Santa figure doesn’t already have a gift sack, be sure to add one by filling a garbage bag with fallen leaves or any other low-weight material.

Alternatively, you can place the same Santa figure like onto your chimney; this will make it look like Santa is ready to climb down your chimney and bless you with an array of presents.

6. Christmas light sculptures

Amazing Christmas sculptures with lights mounted on to shaped metal or plastic frames are available in many stores around this time of the year. You can buy one to light up your yard in style for Christmas, but before you head out to make a purchase, stop and sort out a couple of things.

If you are following a theme with your indoor decorations then you may want to consider a shape that coordinates with your theme. Or you can think of a theme for your entire outdoor display. Another thing to keep in mind is your yard size; take measurements before you go so you know how big or small a sculpture you need.

7. Decorating your door for Christmas

Traditionally this is done with a wreath; however, you can go a little crazy around the festive season and decorate your door with lights. Another great idea to decorate your door is to place two real Christmas trees on either side, adorning them with various ornaments.

You may also opt for an artificial pre-lit Christmas tree for this purpose. A beautiful way to welcome your guests during Christmas is to place a hanger – not a clothes hanger, though - on your door. A wide variety of beautiful door hangers are available in the market during this season. Door hangers with the picture of reindeer, Santa Claus and snowmen make very cute decorative pieces.

Non-blinking Christmas lights can be used to embellish the front door. Beautify the doorframe with a long string of Christmas lights.

8. Decorating your lawn for Christmas

Don’t forget your lawn when decorating your home for Christmas. You can dazzle guests’ right at the doorstep by decorating your outdoor spaces. Choose animated light displays to go with your theme. Santa’s sleigh, Snowmen, Tin man soldiers etc, are very popular.

Light up your lawn by stringing a plain set of white lights over all the trees and shrubs in your garden. Tie bright red bows on special shrubs or bare branches of the trees. Large bows also look good on any garden gates or lamp posts. Dress up existing garden figurines. For example; fill the birdbath with any extra baubles that you might have.

Add a touch of evergreens or red ribbons or even Santa hats (for some fun) to other figurines. Wreaths are not just for doors. Use them on bare outdoor walls. Roll up your garden hose to make a thick wreath and hang it over the tap. Finish with a big red bow! The possibilities are endless, it is all about using your imagination.

9. Outdoor decorations for an apartment

So, Christmas is just around the corner and you’re sitting up in your apartment wondering how on earth you can possibly decorate your door. Most people usually stick with a wreath, but because many apartments have rules against putting a nail, or tack in the door, a lot of people are forced to go without.

For people who live in an apartment with a balcony, it can seem a little silly to hang decorations or lights out there. But why should it?  If you get it done early enough, the chances are that the rest of your building might join in. There are ways to make your apartment just as beautiful on the outside, as it is on the inside this Christmas season.

10. The nativity display

.

The most traditional display of them all is of course the nativity display. The setting makes an appearance in every Christmas play and every kid wants to play either Joseph or Mary.  The nativity scene traditionally exhibits the figures representing the infant Jesus, his mother Mary, and of course, her husband Joseph.

However, you can add other characters from the Biblical story such as shepherds, the Three Wise Men, and angels. The figurines can displayed in a stable, cave, or any other structure that you so wish.

Christmas Party Planner

Planning your party

With Christmas in sight, it’s time to finalise your celebrations - because when it comes to planning the perfect party, it is essential to be well organised.  Check the list below to make sure you have everything covered; whether you’re finalising plans for the office party, planning your own Christmas party or arranging Christmas day!

Office party

Most people responsible for planning the office party should pretty much have their evening sorted. Yet, I’m sure there are a few people who are having a catastrophic break down due to having left it all until the last minute!

* Search and call all possible venues to host your party, once you have found a couple of places reserve them and if you are planning to eat, get them to send the menu over!

* Get confirmation from everyone who will be attending and what their food choices are.

* Contact party suppliers and order decorations, prizes, chocolate fountains, ice sculptures and whatever else your budget allows for!

* Contact the venue with guest numbers, food choices and find out what is and isn’t included in the price and then book it.

* Communicate with your colleagues so everyone is clear about venue, times, themes, dress code and anything else that is vital; but of course, keep the surprises under wraps!

Christmas Party

Some of you will be planning your own festive gathering for family and friends, which is very generous of you! Whether you are putting yourself through this stress because you love to host or you’ve drawn the short straw, make sure your evening is meticulously planned party people!

* Food – this is absolutely vital that you cater for all of those fussy eaters. Therefore a buffet will always go down well and what’s more, it’s more social and involves a lot less cooking. Just make sure you have veggie options, healthy veg sticks and salads, various meats, savoury treats and a range of sweets – yum!

Christmas Drinks* Drink – always buy more than enough alcohol and make sure that you have a top selection including: champagne, wine (all colours), beer and spirits. Do make sure that you have enough soft drinks to use both as mixers and for those who are t-total. Stock up on orange, cranberry and pineapple juice, as well as coke and lemonade (diet and non-diet).

* Decorations – you probably would have already decorated, but adding a few more balloons or outdoor lights wouldn’t go amiss.

* Music – get a whole range downloaded (even if you hate some of it), that way you will satisfy all tastes. If you are really going to town, hire a band or a DJ and that will certainly go down a treat.

* Get your guest numbers confirmed early to ensure you can cater for the right amount of people.

Christmas Day

If it’s your turn to entertain and cook Christmas dinner this year, then the pressure will be on to produce a gourmet meal. Despite this, try not to panic as there will be others just like you trying to prepare for the big day.

* Order your turkey, duck, sausages, bacon and any other meats that you want as early as possible to ensure you get the most suitable one for you. Order this from your local supermarket, butcher or farm to avoid the stress of getting the dregs!

* A Christmas dinner also needs all of the trimmings, but of course these will vary according to taste! So make sure you write everything down before you head to the shops, or of course order online.

* Once again, get plenty of alcohol, especially champagne, mulled wine and port!

* Make sure you have enough seats and cutlery for all of your guests.

* Don’t forget the crackers, Christmassy table cloth and napkins.

* Ensure you have in-house entertainment to avoid any awkward silences or boredom, even though you’d like to think that would never happen!

* Your house needs to be spotless and tidy to accommodate your guests, as they certainly won’t want any nasty surprises!
