Exclusive 15% Off Orders – Including Stunning Lighting at Dwell

dwell main image

Make a real style impact with essential lighting from Dwell, the UK’s leading contemporary furniture company.

Lighting is so much part of our lives that we really don’t take too much notice of it, but just consider where we would be without it.  Alongside heating it is an essential element of every home throughout the country.  But something functional doesn’t have to be boring.

Lighting can easily give an empty space a real sense of atmosphere and character, without the drastic need for DIY exertions.  Lighting now comes in all shapes and sizes, and is much more of a statement thing than previously.  It’s important to match the right lighting to the right location, especially when you consider that for most of the time you will not even have turned on.  The best lighting will be both aesthetically pleasing, as well as fully functional.

And that is where Dwell.co.uk may be able to assist.  Dwell have a stunning selection of lighting; including desk, floor and Table pieces.  Or why not create a central focal point with a beautiful ceiling pendant light, that will be the envy of everyone that enters the room.  As well as lighting, Dwell also carry a large collection of home and furniture products, each with a view to design.

Here a just a few of the gorgeous lighting pieces that will hopefully illuminate your imagination.

The chess piece table lamp is a true statement piece.  While the base is distinctive, the shade is more reserved, so as a result it wouldn’t look out of place in most environments.  The lamp retails for £99, and also comes in white.

For a location that really lacks a focal point, the giant spotlight floor lamp could be the perfect solution.  Made from stainless steel and wood, the lamp summons up a real retro feel of classic Hollywood glamour.  Retailing at £299 it’s not a cheap purchase, but for enduring style and quality it cannot be bettered.

And for a touch of colour, just think about how the red globe pendant light would transform a dull space.  With its futuristic charm, the glass light would add a warm glow to your room.  It can be yours for £69, simply beautiful.

Get 15% off full price orders at Dwell exclusively at MyVoucherCodes, valid until 16th May 2012.

Hot New Release – The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn

tintin main

Monday 19th March sees the release of one of last year’s biggest movies; The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn on DVD, Blu-ray and 3D Blu-ray.

For anyone out there unfamiliar with the character, Tintin is a young Belgian reporter, who along with his faithful dog snowy set out on all kinds of swashbuckling adventures around the globe.  Created by Belgian artist Georges Remi (but penned under the name of Hergé) the series of books on which the film is based is one of the most popular of the 20th century.  Translations have been published in more than 50 languages, with more than 200 million copies of the books sold to date around the globe.

The world of Tintin is home to a whole host of larger than life characters.  Chief among them is the absent-minded professor Calculus, the comedy detectives Thomson and Thompson and most famously, the  alcohol dependant Captain Haddock.  With such a rich wealth of material, it was always a given that Tintin would eventually be given the blockbuster treatment.

Directed by Steven Spielberg  (who Hergé thought was the only director capable of filming Tintin) the Secret of the unicorn sees Intrepid reporter Tintin and his new friend Captain Haddock set off on a treasure hunt for a sunken ship commanded by Haddock’s ancestor.  Cue airplane crashes, rowing boats, shoot-outs, kidnapping and a whole host of all out action set pieces.

But how does the film rate?

First of I must admit I am somewhat biased, as I loved the books as a child.  But being a fan holds no guarantees.  Take The Fantastic Four as an example.  I absolutely adored the comics, but the movies are utter rubbish!  The trick is to stay faithful to the original material, but present something new, or even better groundbreaking.

On this level The Secret of the Unicorn has truly succeeded with its dazzling animation, brilliantly enhanced by the whole 3D experience.  Luckily the film looses little in conventional 2D, and in many ways is like seeing afresh.  The animation is beautiful, and huge plaudits must be given for the realisation of Snowy the dog.  The canine character is cleverly given character and charm, a real achievement given the obvious limitations.

Elsewhere Andy Serkis gives a brilliant OTT comedic performance as Captain Haddock, and Daniel Craig is suitably villainous as Sakharine.  The highlight of the film has to be the motorbike chase that utilises every aspect of what a good chase sequence should be, and goes beyond it through the expansive medium of animation.

Put Simply, Tintin is a must see film, full of charm and humour that you will find hard not to be swept up in.

It was so nice to walk into my local bookshop the other day and see that space rocket carousel so beloved from my youth, jam packed with books and surrounded by happy children.  If the film has any legacy, it must surely be this.

Order Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn on DVD for only £10.99 at HMV, and remember to check out MyVoucherCodes for all the latest discounts.

There is nothing more important on your wedding day (apart from both partners turning up; the ring being secure; and nobody objecting during the ceremony) than the wedding dress. The Saint Patrick’s Day Survival Kit From MyVoucherCodes

saint patrick main

On Saturday 17th March, Ireland will be one big party as Saint Patricks Day arrives.  But it won’t just be our Irish neighbours celebrating.

The whole world has taken Saint Patrick’s Day to heart more than any other national day.  Suddenly everybody has some remarkable lineage to the emerald isle, that they are only too happy to tell you about.  Whatever nationality, the whole world turns a shamrock shade of green to party.

Originally a Catholic holy day, Saint Patrick’s Day has steadily evolved into more of a secular holiday, whereby much merriment is the order of the day.  Saint Patrick’s Day has become synonymous with the consumption of alcohol, most notably Guinness of course.  For one day only, alcohol sales will go through the roof as people celebrate with friends, family and more than likely; complete strangers.

Perhaps that is the key to the success of Saint Patrick’s Day.  The day offers an excuse to escape all the financial doom and gloom that is around at the moment.

Make sure you have got everything covered with the helpful Saint Patricks Day survival kit.

No Saint Patricks Day celebration would be complete without novelty accessories.  At Angels Fancy Dress you will find a great range of Saint Patricks Day accessories, from the ridiculous to the sublime.  Chief among the party favourites has to be the classic hat, which will go down a treat  at any social gathering.  Plus until 17thMarch you can get 15% off orders at Angels Fancy Dress.

With so much partying, sometimes it’s easy to forget about food.  Before your big night out remember to grab something to eat.  And what could be better than a choice of 5 Pizza Hut special pizza’s only £5 each, available in restaurant and for collection or delivery until 1st April 2012.

You will need plenty of booze to keep everyone in high spirits.  It’s strange how friends seem to appear like a conjuring trick at the first whiff of alcohol.  Get £10 off Grocery orders over £50 at Sainsbury’s, valid until 17th March.

And for the day after you are definitely going to need something to help you cope with that hangover.  So why not stock up early with 5% off orders over £5 at Asset Chemist.

The Cult of Converse

converse logo

Welcome one and all.  We gather here today to worship at the altar of the All Star icon that is…Converse.

For the unenlightened Converse is an American shoe company that has been making shoes, lifestyle fashion and athletic apparel since the early 20th century.  But recently the brand has had somewhat of a renaissance, and is now one of the most sought after fashion companies.  The stylish shoes have been worn by the likes of Michelle Obama, Avril Lavigne, Russell Brand and even Doctor Who.

There is something about Converse shoes that inspires devotion from it’s owners like no other footwear company.  For any Converse owners out there, I’m fairly confident that you have more than one pair.  Once you own them it seems to be impossible not to buy a second or third pair, regardless of how often you will wear them.

A converse purchase is more than simply a practical buy, it is an investment.  In my experience no other footwear maintains its appearance, comfort and style better than Converse.   You do not get stress wrinkles on the front of the shoe like trainers, and cleaning is a doddle.  And even if they do get slightly scuffed or discoloured, it simply adds to the retro feel of the shoe.  Talking of the word retro, it’s everywhere these days.  Brand tradition and authenticity are really important at the moment, and Converse has this in bundles.

Converse have cleverly used endorsements to great effect in recent times, with their DC Comics range being a big hit around the globe.  The latest of these, is the animated pop group Gorillaz that adorn a special edition range of their distinctive footwear.  Some Limited Edition ranges have become real collectable items in their own right, which will only further enhance the brands unique following.  You can even customise selected styles to make your own fashion statement.

So readers keep the faith, and let Converse into your life!

If you have been converted, why not take advantage of 10% off first online orders at Foot Asylum, valid until 31st March 2012 at MyVoucherCodes

Gift Ideas for Mother’s Day

Mothers-day2

March is here and with 18 days to go until Mother’s Day, it’s time to think about how to treat your mum. After all she has spent the last however many years bringing you up and will undoubtedly still be looking after you in your adult life! So bearing that in mind, you should really be saying thank you and making her feel special everyday!

However, most of us only stop and think about how brilliant our mums are, when we suddenly remember that Mother’s Day is looming, and looming it most certainly is! Deciding what to do and what gift to buy doesn’t need to be stressful; after all your mum’s probably the one person you know better than anyone else, so therefore knowing what she’d like should be easy! Yet, we both know that you’ll leave it to the last minute, or be too ‘busy’ to find that perfect something, so MyVoucherCodes have compiled all the top exclusive codes, deals and sales all in one handy place!

As the old saying goes: ‘it’s the thought that counts’, so you don’t have to spend a small fortune, but you do need to spend your time together. So this makes for a great excuse to cook her dinner, take her to lunch or to spend the day doing something you both enjoy. Whether that’s outdoor activities, a pampering day, cultural trips, a show or just enjoying a good old film, your time will mean the most.

Obviously you can go for the typical flower and chocolate gifts, which to be fair usually go down a treat, or you could always buy her something different. I’m sure that she will mention things that wants or would like to do, it’s just a case of keeping your ears open (which means listening). Take note of that film she wants to see, that top she’s been eyeing up or that massage she could really do with.

Whatever you decide to do or buy, just make her feel special on Sunday 18th March – remember this date, you have been warned!
