Spring and Summer Home Style From B&Q

B&Q Fluro Therapy

This time of year is all about new beginnings; spring cleaning reinvigorates your home after a long cold winter. Once you’ve completed that, it’s time for a refresh – out with the old and in with the new.  It’s time to get your home up to date with the latest styles and trends.  To help you do just that, the nation’s favourite DIY superstore, B&Q have just launched scintillating new colours, patterns, styles and designs for summer 2013. So now there’s no excuse!

The style experts at B&Q know not all homes are the same – that goes for personal taste too. That’s why they’ve created four distinct styles for you to play with; Contemporary, Authentic, Multicolour and Heritage.  Each style is represented by a ‘style house’, making it easy for you to find complementary  items for your home. All you’ve got to do is choose which look suits your style (or identify the look you want to achieve). And what’s more, they’ve even grouped the products together so it’s easy to shop by style.

Contemporary

B&Q City EscapeThe Contemporary House

If your home has a modern, urban feel, look for the ‘City Escape’ style house. If you fancy upgrading to a much sleeker, current look, let ‘City Escape’ style house be your muse. With bold patterns mixed up against a base of neutral tones supplied by greys, whites and a sprinkling of black, and splashes of colour added by pastel green and yellow flourishes, your home will certainly be the place to be for cool gatherings and relaxing alike. The contemporary home is young, fresh and exciting, and the low maintenance aspect makes it perfect for hectic lifestyles.

Authentic

B&Q Petit JournalThe Authenic House

For a rustic, natural and earthy ambiance seek out the authentic designs. The authentic style used natural materials and colours for a warm, cosy setting for family life. The authentic style is for those who have ditched minimalism and manmade fittings and furniture for a more, well, authentic feel. If you love the up-cycled, distressed look, this is the style for you, in particular the Menorca design which mixes rough, natural textures with bold stripes.

The second design story in the authentic range is ‘Petit Journal’. Simplicity is key with this is to start with a  white background then build it up with layers of texture and stripes.

Multicolour

B&Q Ethnic ColourThe Multicolour House

And next the B&Q style masters have concocted a number of multicoloured styles to placate even the most random, eccentric home. If you like eclectic styles and vibrant colours the Multicolour style house at B&Q is your ideal starting point. With bold tones and vibrant Moroccan patterns bursting with colour, the ‘Ethnic Colour’ story is perfect for those who like to combine influences. For those who want to keep a white background to let the colours in their furniture and accessories to stand out the Fluro Therapy design will sing out. This design works by utilising straight lines, industrial metal accessories and using materials with clashing colours.

Heritage

B&Q Romantic ArtyThe Heritage House

With plenty of vintage influenced textiles and prints alongside dark woods and classic tiles, if you’re a traditional guy or gal, B&Q have thought about you too,  and with the Heritage design, you’re bound to feel at home. To get this look use traditional, up-cycled furniture off set with subtle coloured floral or wildlife prints.

We hope that has got you thinking about home improvement and decoration, don’t forget to check out the B&Q store page for fantastic diy and decoration discounts and savings. And be sure to enter our B&Q competition for your chance to win a £300 gift card. Well, you don’t want to miss your chance to get some of these cool B&Q product for free. Good luck!

Easter DIY – Introducing The New Wallpaper Trends

Amazing Wallpaper from JW Walls

It’s nearly Easter; but beyond the Christian festivities and endless chocolate eggs, Easter is also the busiest weekend of the year for DIY.  The 4 day weekend is the perfect time to change an interior space, and what could be better than wallpaper!

Let’s face it; wallpaper has been in and out of vogue more often than Noel Edmonds. It’s hardly surprising given that the concept of wallpaper has been around for well over a quarter of a century, and wall decoration via drapes and tapestries for even longer.  Bizarrely in 1712, during the reign of Queen Anne, a wallpaper tax was introduced which was not abolished until 1836.  You would never get oddball taxes like that these days, would you Mr Cameron?

Much of the appeal of wallpaper lies in the fact that you can really stamp your personality on an interior in a way you would struggle to do with paint.  Because it’s a potent thing, the use of wallpaper has changed somewhat because a little goes a long way.  The ‘feature wall’ was popularised by the likes of Lawrence Llewelyn Bowen and other celebrity designers, and is now a real staple of interior decoration.

So to help you make your mark this Easter, here are a few eye-catching wallpaper ideas.

Top 5 Outdoor Living Essentials

Outdoor Living

It may not seem so, given the present climate, but soon the weather should make a turn for the better -  allowing us to take advantage of our outdoor space. It doesn’t matter whether your outdoor space is a garden, patio or balcony (or, in the absence of any personal outdoor space – your local park)  as soon as the sun gives respite from the inevitable rain you need to get out and indulge in a spot of outdoor living.

From barbeques to hammocks we’ve trawled the web for some of best value outdoor living essentials. Don’t be left out in the cold, check out our Top 5 Outdoor Living Essentials.

Outdoor Cooking…

Best Value BarbequesBlooma Kembla Rectangular Charcoal Barbecue – £15 from B&Q |Redwood Leisure 14-inch Round Barbecue from £11.59 at Amazon | Retro Portable Barbeque  – £22.50 from Tesco Direct.

There’s no better away to spend a sunny afternoon than gathering your cohort with the promise of warm beer and burnt meat. Yes, I’m talking about barbeques – the reason why summer was invented! In my view, any slight shard of sunshine is fantastic excuse to get the barby out.  And, for the record, gas barbeques are cheating.

Outdoor Living…

Outdoor Living Best Buys4 Seat Hardwood Dining Set – £169 from B&Q | Kingfisher Outdoor Dining Set from £52.95 at Amazon | La Hacienda Cast Iron Chimenea – £50 from Tesco Direct.

Once you have the important bit sorted, next you’ll need somewhere to sit, eat and relax. Make your outdoor space liveable by adding furniture. Don’t just plonk a few chairs against wall, create a focal point for gatherings. To do this you could add an outdoor dining set, such as above. For an interesting feature, why not create the illusion of an outdoor living room by using an outdoor lounge set, also above, alongside garden features such as large planters and lighting. This works particularly well on a gazebo or a balcony. Carry on the party outdoors, long after the sun has faded, by adding a wood burner, chimenea or gas heater. Even a brazier would be an attractive warming touch for your garden or patio.

Lounging and Snoozing…

Hammocks and Swing SetsWindsor Wooden Swing Bench  Set – £199 from Tesco Direct| Amazonas Barbados Hammock – £62.99 from Tesco Direct| Hanging Crow’s Nest – £90.08 from Tesco Direct.

After you’ve eaten, it’s time for a little nap in the sunshine. Investing in outdoor lounging furniture, such as hammocks and swing benches, will add a comfortable focal point – make your outdoor space the place to be.  Swings benches are definitely the best buy, offering both comfort and shade – but only if you have the space. Don’t be fooled by the false economy of the much cheaper plastic or hollow metal framed sets. Invest in a heavy wooden design which should give you a lifetime of outdoor comfort. Hammocks are great slung between trees and other sturdy garden fixtures such as sheds and fences. If you have restricted space, such as a balcony, you could try a crow’s nest style hammock hung securely from walls or fences (not over the edge of a balcony though)

Garden FeaturesSolar Powered Terracotta Cascade – £49 from Amazon| Decorative Planters from – £0.80p at Wilkinson Plus.

Next, offset all that furniture with cool outdoor features such as garden ornaments, water features or some planters, to create a relaxing environment.

And If You Don’t Have Your Own Oudoor Space…

Camping and Outdoors Esssentials

Draper Picnic Rug – £9.90 from Amazon| Folding Camping Chairs –  at Amazon |Red Offset Parasol  –  £40 from Wilkinson Plus |Travel Jonn Disposable Urinal  – from £5.01 at Amazon.

…make the most of your local park, roundabout or grass verge. All you need is a blanket, parasol and some folding chairs and you’ll be laughing. And don’t forget the Travel John, in case you get caught short!

There we have, all you need for a days sun worshipping and barbequing. For more garden and outdoor living bargain check out our Outdoor Living voucher codes to see home much you can save.

Cheerful Charity: Support Red Nose Day With These Fantastic Products

walliams_tkmaxx

While it’s impossible to bemoan the youthful exuberance of this year’s Comic Relief starlets, watching all of those pesky teenagers is starting to make us feel a bit ancient. Perhaps it’s the pearly white teeth, chiselled chins and ridiculous haircuts of Harry Styles and Co’, or maybe – just maybe – it’s because this year marks the 25th anniversary of the comedy-fest, and almost everybody involved wasn’t alive when it first began. Seriously, there isn’t a abdominal paunch in sight. Well, apart from Mr. Walliams up there.

Of course, not even the most cynical curmudgeon could deny the importance of Red Nose Day. In just twenty five years, the biennial telethon has raised a whopping £800 million for charity – helping to put an end to poverty, while kicking social injustice in the gonads. Thankfully, this year’s event – which takes place on the 15th March – looks to be bigger than ever, with just about every famous (and not-so-famous) celebrity donating their time and money to the cause.

Needless to say, you don’t have to be an irksome celeb’, or have a rubbish DVD coming out, in order to get involved. There are countless ways you can get raise money for Comic Relief this year, starting with your weekly food shop. Just take a look at some of these fantastic Red Nose Day products, which are available in all good retailers…

Sainsbury’s

Jam and bread, custard and cake, Dawn French and Lenny Henry – some things in life are simply meant for each other… well, apart from that last one. Anyway, the same goes for Sainsbury’s and Comic Relief. They’ve been bedfellows since time began, and this year they’ve upped the ante with a selection of Red Nose Day treats that includes everything from pin badges, to car air fresheners, wrist bands, deeley boppers, and err, doughnuts. Oh, and those classic red noses, of course.

TK Maxx

Trust TK Maxx to bring a bit of style to the occasion. This year, the popular fashion brand has teamed up with swanky design guru Stella McCartney, who has lovingly created a collection of T-Shirts featuring iconic images of the Beatles, Tommy Cooper, Marilyn Monroe and Kate Moss. There’s even an imaginative set of Red Nose Day homeware that includes aprons, mugs, tea-towels and oven gloves. Lovely.

Disney

Disney is renowned for making children’s dreams come true on film, and now the animation giant is doing it for real. For a limited time, you can buy a red-nosed Mickey Mouse plush, and the proceeds will help disadvantaged children around the UK. And if that wasn’t already enough, Disney also promises that its employees will be singing, joking and, most likely whistling, while they work to raise money this Red Nose Day.
