Most Talked About Spring Hair Trends for 2013

2013 Spring Hair Trends Feature

Spring is very nearly upon us – it’s felt like a long time coming but the weatherman promises that the frost will begin to thaw and the sun will start to shine in the weeks ahead. So it’s time for you to tear off those woolly bobble hats, cast those earmuffs aside and start loving your locks again! Luckily for you the 2013 Spring-Summer fashion shows have provided some awesome inspiration meaning you won’t be short of ideas.

2013 Spring Hair Trends are all about “low” maintenance looks – seemingly requiring minimal time to reach an effortlessly chic outcome (shame we don’t all have our own personal hair styling team to follow us around!)

Tie the Knot

Paul Smith S/S 2013 (left); Gucci S/S 2013 (right)

A simple, classic and streamlined look; easy to master and accessible to most hair types. A style sported by the likes of the Givenchy gang, Ralph Lauren crew and Paul’s Smith posse.

To master: blow-dry hair straight, part hair in the centre (not compulsory) and secure hair into firm ponytail at nape of the neck. Wrap the pony into a number of looks such as a ballet bun or double knot.

The Pièce de Résistance

Dolce & Gabbana S/S 2013 (left); Fendi S/S 2013 (right)

The icing on the cake. The cherry on top. Hair accessories have been stealing the fashion show spotlight this Spring. Try anything from the sporty neon headbands seen on the Fendi lot to gorgeous printed silk scarves at Dolce & Gabbana.

Check out: an awesome selection of hair pieces at ASOS

Low Ponies

Etro S/S 2013 (left); Michael Kors S/S 2013 (right)

By far the easiest style to tackle than a couple of the looks yet to come – bare in mind easy doesn’t mean boring. High fashion hair stylists have treated us to a wide spectrum of low ponies from sleek and shiny at Etro to big and bushy at Alexander Wang.

Riding the Waves

Versace S/S 2013 (left); Diane Von Furstenberg S/S 2013 (right)

Waves never cease to be a popular trend! We’ve seen it all from beach to boho chic; the 2013 take on this firm favourite is…drumroll please…rock ‘n’ roll waves. This gentle look has been softening models’ angular faces the fashion world over from DVF to Burberry.

Look the part: 25% savings on Remington hair-care at Argos

The Braidy Bunch

David Koma S/S 2013 (left); Jason Wu S/S 2013 (right)

Probably the fiddliest style of them all and not typically low maintenance! A great many braids have graced the 2013 Spring-Summer catwalks from low pony-braid combos by the likes of Marchesa to fully braided up-dos at The Row.

Slick Chick

Giambattista Valli S/S 2013 (left); Alberta Ferretti S/S 2013 (right)

Are you brave enough to rock one of the season’s boldest looks? Wet-look locks are definitely the most daring trend on offer for Spring 2013 as seen on runways from Alberta Ferretti to Giambattista Valli. You’ll be needing a fair bit of hair gel to attempt this one!

How to Get Ready for a Night Out: The Savvy Way

How to Get Ready for a Night Out - Feature

Just because Christmas is over doesn’t mean the party season has to end. January, however, is undoubtedly a tough month, so getting ready for a big night needs to be done on the cheap. Fortunately for you lucky people, we have some fantastic ideas when it comes to getting ready at the lowest possible price.

1) Make- Up Demos

Most large department stores such as Boots, John Lewis, House of Fraser and other high street beauty retailers will offer make-up demos that allow you to take their make- up for a test run. Next time you’ve got a big night planned, book in at one of the in-store beauty stands for a free make-over using their products. Most big names will offer this free of charge, and the great thing is you’ll get to learn some handy make-up tips whilst beautifying yourself for free!

2) Smell Your Best

Whilst you’re in town, it makes sense to save your bank account the trouble of parting with a wedge of cash for your favourite perfume. Instead, make sure you’re looking and smelling your best for a night out by taking advantage of the free perfume samples available in-store. Whilst you’re spritzing, it’s worth asking whether or not they have any small sample bottles that they could part with (particularly likely if you’re trying to decide on the “right gift for a friend”) – that way, you’ll have your very own free sample to see you through the night!

3) Barnet Test Runs

On the theme of test- runs, hair styling consultations are also a great way to make your barnet look its best before a big night out, without parting with your hard-earned cash. Get down to your local hairdressers and find out when the juniors will need models for styling appointments. Most hairdressers will give you an appointment with a junior or trainee for a fraction of the price, giving you a great style to hit the town with, without having to call the bank manager.

4) Outfit Rentals

Dress rental companies have exploded in popularity over recent years, and you no longer have to take out a credit card to get yourself a designer gown. To look like a million dollars for a Primark price tag, check out dress rental websites that let you rent the dress of your dreams for a set period of time; before simply popping back in the post. One dress rental could see you through the whole of the festive season in serious style for the cost of just one (very reasonable) high street dress.

5) Sharing is Caring

When your bank account is low, there’s no savvier way to look your best on a budget than to call on your nearest and dearest to help you out. Why not suggest that you and your friends do a ‘clothes swap’? This means sharing your wardrobe in order to give you all new outfits for those special occasions where you’d usually splash out on something new. This is a great way to rejuvenate your wardrobe for no cost at all, providing none of you slosh mulled wine down any of your borrowed outfits of course…

Save Money on Your New Favourite Fragrance with the Debenhams Sale

perfumefeatureimage

50′s style icon Marilyn Monroe reportedly said that all she ever wore to bed was a simple spritz of Chanel No.5, transporting this classic fragrance into the realms of infamy. It’s true; there is something eternally glamorous about perfume, with beautiful bottles taking pride of place on the dressing tables of women the world over. Indeed, the joy that comes with finding that signature scent can spark a bond unlike that ever felt for any other beauty product. However, with 2013 now in full swing it could be time to ditch the old faithful and explore your fragrance options.

But with so many options to choose from this can be a daunting task to say the least. Shopping for perfume is nothing if not a sensory experience but with all the spraying and wafting and the pressure of commission hungry sales people (not to mention all those little white sticks floating around in your handbag…phew) it can feel like the whole practice would be best left avoided. But, instead of going straight for your firm favourite and immediately fleeing the scene, why not try your fragrance shopping online and escape the department store disaster.

If you’re looking to avoid the in-store sale mania online shopping can provide a welcome relief allowing you to peruse products at your leisure. Right now Debenhams are offering discounts of up to 50% off fragrance and beauty in the January sale. So there really is no better time to swap your scent. Here is our pick of the hottest perfumes available in the Debenhams sale right now.

Burberry Touch For Women Eau de Toilette Was £64.00 Now £42.88

Very Irresistable Givenchy 30ml Eau de Toilette Was £35.00 Now £29.75

DKNY Red Delicious for Women eau de parfum Was £30.50 – £48.00 Now £27.45 – £43.20

Best Beauty Trends for Christmas 2012

TheBodyShopFeatureImage

Back in October we conducted a study that revealed how the average UK woman changes her signature make-up look merely once every 12 years! Now I’m all for the idea of sticking to what works for you but this verges on the ridiculous. Variety is the spice of like after all – and everybody should shake things up at least once in a while. Right?

This isn’t to say that we should all go bananas and adopt a Minaj/Gaga-esq approach to painting our faces each day. But a little experimentation never hurt anybody. The festive season heralds an ideal opportunity to escape the metaphorical shackles of your make-up routine and push boundaries with your beauty look.

Experimenting with the latest catwalk beauty trends is never as easy as it sounds. Firstly, a very small portion of the looks actually translate into wearable trends. And secondly, it’s a plain fact of life that without a veritable army of make-up artists and hair stylists – along with cheekbones that could cut glass – the majority of high fashion beauty trends are just impossible to replicate. But fear not. What’s Hot have selected 3 of the best beauty trends for Christmas 2012 for you to test out at home. We’ve also picked out the ideal products for the job from the great selection available at The Body Shop.

Statement Lips

Lipstick £10.00, Lip Stain £10.00

The red lip is the ultimate in classic glamour, and despite so many women being fearful of this seemingly daring look, it’s actually surprisingly flattering. With so many shades of rouge at one’s fingertips it’s near impossible not to find a hue to suit your skin tone. For a bold look, carefully apply 2-3 coats of your favourite colour, blotting with tissue paper in-between coats. Or, if a more subtle approach is preferable simply gently dab your lipstick onto your lips for a soft ‘bitten’ look – this style also works perfectly for the day time.

Bare Faced Beauty

All-In-One BB Cream £12.00, Lightening Touch £14.00, All-In-One Concealer £8.50

Let you natural beauty shine through with a minimalist look. 2012 has seen the rise of high tech foundations and BB creams so you can guarantee a flawless look every time. Minimal make-up offers a welcome change to the usual influx of glitter and fakery that rears its head during the Christmas period. To work the neutral look to perfection; make sure that you invest in a great foundation or BB cream (depending on how much coverage you need) that matches your skin tone perfection and use a highlighter to add definition to cheek and brow bones.

Cat Flick Eyeliner

Liquid Eyeliner £9.00, Carbon Eye Definer £9.00, Super Volume Mascara £10.00

A steady hand is the number one requirement for adopting this fiddly trend. Done right the look is effortlessly chic and with practice it can soon become your go to evening beauty look. To try the look yourself take a black liquid liner and carefully draw a sweeping line the entire length of your lash line and kick up at the corners for a sexy feline feel. For unbeatable application tips check out this video from The Guardian with a step by step guide on how to master this look.

To get your hands the ultimate fair-trade, all natural beauty bundle make sure you enter this week’s competition with The Body Shop and you could be the lucky winner of £200 to spend on sumptuous Body Shop products. Enter Here.

A beauty wish list for Christmas

I_174639694_50_20120913

I am a beauty product aficionado. I just love trying all the new products that come onto the market, and particularly those concerned with skincare and cosmetics. Naturally this makes Christmas a really exciting time, as all the biggest brands in beauty put together fabulous gift ideas, containing both new and hero products and usually offering big discounts on retail prices.

This year is proving to be no exception: Boots, Selfridges, House of Fraser and Debenhams are amongst the biggest names offering a range of truly wonderful products – from pampering bath-time treats, to limited edition fragrances and of course, the ultimate in party make-up. Many of these products have special offers attached to them (of course Boots has its famous 3-for-2 gift deal) and by bookmarking MyVoucherCodes: you could save even more.

Here are the top five items I would love to find in my Christmas stocking this year

Boss Orange Gift Set.

I love this zesty, fruity fragrance and there is just something about oranges that evoke Christmas (I’m possibly thinking of tangerines here…). Anyway, you can currently pick this up at a third off from Boots.com. (Just use the link to low price fragrances at Boots – and maybe the voucher code offered on £90 depending on how much you spend).

Philosophy Holly Berry Bubble Bath.

Philosophy products are a real favourite of mine, but this is one product – available from Debenhams – I’ve never tried before. You can get 15% off all beauty here at the moment, and you can also get free Christmas delivery – an added bonus which is always great for saving a few extra pennies.

Elemis Best of British kit

I’m still feeling very patriotic after all the wonderful events of 2012, made even more special by Kate & William’s baby news this week. Elemis products are wonderful, and so this would undoubtedly make a fantastic present (and remember, by buying at Debenhams you could make a saving of almost £10).
Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream gift set.
This is my absolute hero product that I always try to stock up on. It seems to solve everything from sunburn to dry skin, and is also great on cracked lips as well as enhancing cheekbones! House of Fraser has an amazing offer where if you make two purchases, you can receive a beauty tote bag containing Elizabeth Arden products for free.

Tresemme Soft heated Rollers.

If you want the bouncy hair look favoured by those gorgeous Girls Aloud ladies Cheryl and Kimberley, then this is the perfect gift for you. You can pick these up from Superdrug – they currently have a great offer on where you can get £10 off orders over £50 by going here and using the code GIFTGUIDE12. This also includes all items in the 3-for-2 offer, making it a fabulous way of saving money.

I really hope Santa has his reading glasses on at the moment, and is taking note!

Happy Christmas everyone!

Top Ten Unusual Homemade Beauty Remedies

beauty

For British women an average lifetime of looks maintenance will cost around £133,000 with the male population not far behind at £75,000.

All this spending seems a little excessive however, in an image obsessed world, it can be almost impossible to avoid. But this isn’t your only option.  There are a number of natural alternatives that will help you stay looking your best without parting with your life savings. This summer, take the opportunity to embrace all things natural – and save a small fortune along the way. Not only are natural, homemade beauty remedies cost effective but they are also friendly to the environment.

We’ve scoured the web to find you our top 10 effective natural beauty remedies to try at home. So, next time you find yourself needing a little pampering, bypass the bathroom and head straight to the kitchen cupboard.

1. Baking Soda Scrub – Removes Self-Tan Streaks

Self tan streaks can be a serious faux-pas if left unattended. They occur when tan is applied unevenly, or when the skin hasn’t been properly exfoliated prior to application. To help amend this problem you can create your own streak-stopper scrub using plain old baking soda. Taking a small amount of baking soda add a little water and carefully rub into the streaky area.

2. Vaseline in Your Socks – Helps Dry Skin.

Combat calluses with this quirky trick to reduce dry, flaky skin on the bottom of your feet. Slather your feet in Vaseline before bed, keeping your socks on over night and wake to silky smooth, sandal-ready feet.

3. Vodka Shots – To Stop Dandruff

Next time you have a big night out why not try saving one of those shots for your scalp? – no, really. Mix one cup of vodka with some of crushed rosemary, allow the mixture to rest over night then pass through a coffee strainer in the morning. Massage the mixture through your scalp and rinse with cold water to help reduce dandruff.

4. Seaweed Anti-Aging Mask

Seaweed (or kelp) powder can be found online or at specialist retailers and works as a really effective anti-aging remedy. Mix the powder together with 1 egg white, a table spoon of dark honey and a teaspoon of orange juice until you have a smooth paste. Rub the paste onto your skin and rinse off with warm water after 15 to 20 minutes. Rich in vitamins and minerals the seaweed will help improve the look and feel of you skin helping to reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

5. Potatoes to Reduce Dark Under-Eye Circles

Potatoes produce a cooling effect that can lighten the skin around the eye area, reducing the appearance of tired looking eyes. Take a peeled raw potato and thoroughly wash with cold water. Then cut two segments from the potato and place them underneath your eyes for ten minutes. Potatoes also work as an astringent and can help reduce water retention and reduce the look of puffy eyes.

6. Vinegar for Shiny Hair

Give dull hair a boost of life with this chip shop staple. Combine 500ml of cool water with 250ml of vinegar. Apply the mixture to wet hair taking care to avoid your eyes and let it rest for 5-10 minutes. Thoroughly rinse away and your hair will be soft and shiny.

7. Toothpaste for Spot Fighting

Acne suffers will know that there is nothing worse than having an important event coming up and discovering a huge spot the night before. Rather than rushing to purchase expensive spot creams, everyday toothpaste produces the same rapid results without the additional costs. Toothpaste quickly acts to dehydrate spots, absorbing the excess oil. This will help reduce the redness of the spot helping to keep skin blemish free.

8. Peach and Honey Soothing Face-Mask

This yummy recipe is good enough to eat but also great for soothing and brightening skin. Taking a peeled peach (or nectarine) mash together with 3 tablespoons of honey and 2 tablespoons of yoghurt to form a workable paste. Apply to clean, damp skin and relax for 10 minutes. Remove with warm water and follow with your normal toning and moisturising routine.

9. Almond Scrub Hand Exfoliator

Tend to dry, cracked hands with this yummy homemade hand scrub. Take a small amount of ground almonds and combine with 1 teaspoon of honey, two teaspoons of sunflower or walnut oil and a squeeze of lemon juice. Rub the mixture into your hands for a few minutes and rinse away. The mixture will leave your hands feeling smooth and supple. This is a great one for cold winter days.

10. Pepto-Bisbol Face-Mask

Not just excellent for settling stomachs, Pepto-Bismol is unexpectedly effective when it comes to brightening your complexion. The remedy contains many of the same ingredients found in the most expensive skin creams and so works as a great alternative. All you need is two teaspoons. Rub into your face and leave to dry for 10-15 minutes. This will make your skin feel softer, but should be avoided if the skin on your face is especially sensitive.

We thoroughly recommend giving some of these a go. Let us know if you see results. Will you be swapping your pricy potions and lotions for these natural alternatives?

How to Plan a Wedding on a Budget

bigstockphoto_Kiss_Silhouette_3447564

BUDGET.

Like me, you’re probably sick of the word budget and even more sick of constantly trying to stick to one. Despite the pain and misery that the dreaded budget causes, it’s absolutely essential if you want the nice things in life, but don’t earn enough money. Therefore when it comes to planning your wedding on a budget, you’ll need to make your money stretch very far indeed …

Save on The Dress

The dress is the one thing that most women obsess about, so it’s important to make the right decision as well as getting a great bargain. Luckily many high street retailers are selling beautiful wedding dresses at affordable prices, so all you need to worry about is which one to go for.

Go Abroad

Getting married abroad is becoming ever more popular due to great wedding package deals and almost guaranteed good weather. What’s more if you choose somewhere that you want to explore further, then you can honeymoon immediately after your big day. However if you do decide to stay closer to home then you can keep the ceremony simple in a registry office (they are a lot nicer than you think), then you will have more spare cash for a mind blowing after party, which is the most fun part of the day anyway.

The Cake

Although it’s nice to have a stunning wedding cake adorned with flowers made in sky scraper proportions, most of it never really gets eaten, I mean who likes fruit cake anyway? Personally I think it would be far more original and cheaper to have a larger version of your favourite cake made. However I know there are a lot of traditional people out there, so just as well there is a great selection of low price traditional cakes.

A wedding is supposed to be one of your happiest days ever. So the main thing to remember is to have fun and make the most of whatever budget you have.

If anyone knows of any great wedding packages, low price honeymoon trips or basically anything to do with weddings, then feel free to share it with the rest of us – we need all the help we can get when it comes to the much hated budget.

The World’s First Fake Tan Tights Exclusively at Tights Please!

-fake-tan-tights

Forget smelly fake tan and save your health by binning sunbeds, because fake tan tights have arrived! Impregnated with micro-capsules of fake tan, this revolutionary and patented hosiery product has been launched exclusively with one of the UK’s leading tights suppliers, Tights Please with the aim of delivering perfectly bronzed legs.

Over the past decade the world has succumbed to fake tan lotions, mousses and sprays; now the latest way to get the perfect tan is to wear fake tan tights.

Instead of having to stand naked in the star position, simply walking around in a pair of tights with tanning treatment for just 10 minutes provides that desired ‘skin kissed’ tan. Using fake tan tights removes the need to rub in lotions, minimising the risk of patchy ankles, orange hands and an uneven tan. They have been hailed as the quick and easy, no mess route to gorgeous tanned legs. After 10 minutes of wearing, the fake tan tights can be removed to allow the tan to fully develop over the next 2 hours. One of the main features is that the tan doesn’t slow down once the sun kiss brown appears!

Tanned legs after using fake tan tights

The Science Behind the Fake Tan Tights

Patented technology ensures micro-fibres in the tights are impregnated with tanning solution. When these micro-fibres come into contact with skin the tanning agent starts to develop, leaving the legs perfectly tanned. The perfect balance of DHA, Aloa, Erythrulose and other proprietary ingredients combine to leave a smooth and even long lasting tan.  These tights can be purchased for as little as £7.99 – click here to find out more.

Revolutionary Tights to Break Down Cellulite

Previously Skin Kiss introduced the Caffeine tights which were impregnated with micro-capsules of caffeine to break down cellulite. When the tights are worn for as little as 10 minutes, the caffeine is released from the micro-capsules into the skin where it starts to break down the cellulite. Worn daily for a three week period many individuals have seen the benefit of a 2cm reduction on each thigh which is remarkable. The skin also appears smoother and softer to the touch. These tights are available to purchase in packs of three for £25.48.
