Fly Away this Valentine’s Day: The Best Romantic Getaway Deals

Romantic Getaways

They might have only just finished clearing away the Christmas deccies, but as is always the way, our glorious supermarkets are slowly starting to re-stock the shelves with products relating to the next big ‘holiday’. That’s right folks, love it or loathe it: Valentine’s Day is certainly on its way. If you’re a singleton, chances are this will fill you with about as much excitement as a bunch of petrol station carnations; however if you are in a relationship, it is a great excuse to bring out your soppy side – not to mention a chance to spend some quality time with your partner. With this in mind, why not take the opportunity to do something a little more special this year?

If you’d like to surprise your loved one, a last minute holiday could be the perfect gift. This doesn’t mean you have to go overboard on price of course; there are a whole load of cheap flight and hotel deals arriving in time for February. Here are the best types of romantic getaway deals for you to consider…

A Countryside Escape

A holiday doesn’t have to mean going abroad. Who needs sun and sangria when you’ve got rain and roast dinners?  It might not do much to top up your vitamin D levels, but the fine British countryside is rather an unsung romantic destination; with your very own cottage in the country, it’ll be all about roaring fires and long lazy lunches in the pub. Sounds pretty perfect to us! Luckily, Cottages4U are currently offering up to 50% off accommodation rental. From Cornwall to Cumbria, there are loads of great locations in the UK available, but regardless of where you go: wellies will be mandatory.

A European Mini-Cruise

A trip from Dover to Calais might not be the most romantic of trips, but with a bunch of companies now offering more variation on locations, a booze cruise needn’t be the only option within your price range. If this sounds like your cup of tea, P&O are currently offering 2-for-1 deals on trips to European locations like Amsterdam and Bruges. A great way of making the most of your holiday, a mini cruise could be just the type of lovely little mini break you’re after.

A Trip to Tenerife

If your other half is more of a sun worshipper than a culture vulture, then perhaps you’d gain more brownie points by booking you both some winter sun. The Canary Islands are a great bet, and with temperatures usually staying well above 20 degrees during February: a week here would certainly be a nice pre-cursor to spring. Thomas Cook are currently offering some excellent offers, just  like this one where you could bag 30% off package holidays to Tenerife.

A Weekend in Paris

Although a somewhat obvious choice, the number one Valentine’s Day destination has got to be the city of love itself, Paris. With endless sight-seeing opportunities to help you walk off those croissants; all that the food, culture, style and Parisian charm means a weekend here would be enough to keep you in your partner’s good books for at least another year. With Eurostar, return tickets to Paris are selling from just £59 - why not make it a V Day to remember?

Whether you’re loved up or happily single, if you are thinking of escaping somewhere this Winter, you’ll find even more last minute bookings and bargain deals on MyVoucherCodes.

UK Winter Warmers: Relax in Some of England’s Quirkiest Pubs

pub2

The nights are becoming darker and the weather’s getting colder, and all we want to do is curl up on the sofa under a warm blanket. But if you want to leave your hot water bottle behind for a night, there’s no better time to sit in a nice cosy pub. Don’t just stick to your local ale house though. Discover some of the oldest and quirkiest pubs in England for a unique drinking experience.

The Crooked House at Himley by John Horton

The Crooked House – Staffordshire

It’s usually the punters that stagger home at the end of a heavy night of drinking, but at The Crooked House in Himley, Staffordshire, the pub itself is ‘drunk’. As one end of this Georgian pub is 1.2 metres lower than the other, the building has an unusual slant, which is more than enough to confuse drinkers after several pints.

The Tempest Arms, North Yorkshire by Dr Neil Clifton

The Tempest Arms – North Yorkshire

Set in beautiful countryside nearby the picturesque Yorkshire Dales, The Tempest Arms dates back to the 17th century. A fantastic place to have a drink and a bite to eat, the pub has hand pulled ales, cushioned armchairs and three roaring log fires that are guaranteed to warm the cockles on those cold winter nights.

Pack O'Cards Pub by Ian Roberts
Pack O’ Cards – Devon

Many stories are told in pubs up and down the country, but the Pack O’ Cards pub in Devon is one place with a unique story of its own to tell. Built in 1690 with the winnings from a card game, the pub resembles a deck of cards, constructed on a plot of land measuring 52ft x 52ft (number of cards in a deck), has four floors (1 for each suit) and 13 doors on each (number of cards in a suit).

The Nutshell by Ben Babcock
The Nutshell – Bury St Edmunds

For the cosiest of English pubs, it’s hard to beat The Nutshell in Bury St Edmunds. In fact, it’s in the Guinness Book of Records for being the smallest pub in the country. The bar here measures a tiny 15ft by 7ft meaning there’s only enough room for around 20 people at any one time. The cramped interior actually stuffs quite a lot into it though with bank notes and historical photographs scattered across the walls and ceiling, as well as a mummified cat!

The Temple Bar by Keith Williamson
The Temple – Manchester

Finding the toilet in some pubs can often be tricky (especially after a few drinks) but punters in The Temple bar in Manchester have no problem. That’s because they’re already in it! The pub, previously called the Temple of Convenience, was once a public toilet but is now the ideal place to sink a few drinks whilst listening to the sound of the jukebox playing the finest Manchester music.

Ye Olde Fighting Cocks by Ben Sutherland

Ye Olde Fighting Cocks – St Albans

Several pubs lay claim to being the oldest in the country but Ye Olde Fighting Cocks in St Albans is the one in the record books. The pub, which got its name from the popular sport of cockfighting that took place there during the 19th century, is an 11th century structure with foundations from 793 and features low ceilings that create a warm, cosy atmosphere.

And if you overdo it, don’t worry – you can always take a look at our hangover cures!
