Over half of UK adults feel they are being charged too much for a simple cup of tea when eating out, according to new survey data released by MyVoucherCodes. The findings reveal widespread consumer dissatisfaction with the price of a brew. Upon visiting the UK's largest coffee chains, a MyVoucherCodes shopping and lifestyle expert discovered that tea lovers aren’t even getting the nation's favourite brand - Yorkshire Tea.

• The Café 'Rip-Off': A clear majority, 54% of UK adults, feel that tea served in cafés and coffee shops is overpriced.
• The Brand Mismatch: Major café chains like Costa, Starbucks, and Caffè Nero routinely leave the nation's favourite brew off their menus. Yorkshire Tea took the top spot with 30% of tea drinkers naming it their brew of choice, leaving supermarket own-brands (12%), PG Tips (10%), Tetley (9%), and Twinings (7%) trailing far behind.
• Britain's Daily Habit: Around 60% of UK adults drink at least one cup of breakfast tea on an average day, while a sizeable minority (20%) consumes 4+ cups daily. Proving that tea will always be an essential part of the day.
• The Mug Factor: Physical presentation also drives consumer taste, with 51% of tea drinkers stating the mug or cup used significantly affects how tea tastes.

So I’ve made it my mission to find out which supermarket is the cheapest and best option for summer hosting this year. In this article, I compared six supermarket own-brand BBQ ranges to see how much it costs to feed six people at a BBQ.

What is the cheapest supermarket BBQ food?

The cheapest supermarket to feed six people at a BBQ is Aldi Specially Selected range, closely followed by Lidl Deluxe. In comparison to the likes of Morrisons and Marks & Spencer, you could save a whole £5-£10 by getting your BBQ food at Aldi.

My BBQ basket included:

Mains: Burgers x 6, vegetarian option x 1, burger buns x 6

Sides: Crisps, salad, coleslaw, cheese slices, and ketchup

This Easter, Brits are set to spend an average of £16.57 on Easter eggs, according to new research from discount voucher code website MyVoucherCodes.

The study reveals clear differences in spending across age groups. Those aged 18–24 are expected to spend less than the average, at £14.27. In comparison, individuals aged 55 to 64 are set to spend £14.38, while those aged 65 and above are projected to spend £12.98. Those aged 35 to 44 will be the biggest spenders, with an average cost of £22.68 for Easter eggs.

While Easter remains a key seasonal moment for shoppers, spending has dipped slightly compared to last year, with last year’s average spend being £18.75.

This could suggest that consumers are becoming more mindful of their budgets, or that increased supermarket promotions and discounts are helping shoppers secure better value.

So, you’ve given up chocolate for Lent, and now it feels like you’ve got nothing to look forward to in the evening after dinner? I’ve got you covered. After my mum stopped eating chocolate a few weeks ago for Lent, I’ve been sharing my favourite alternative sweet treats for her to try.

They’re super easy to make, won’t cost you a fortune, and they taste delicious. And they’re good for you too. What more could you ask for?

1. Homemade granola

Until recently, I didn’t know just how easy it is to make your own granola. You literally just whack it all in a bowl, give it a mix, and shove it in the oven to bake. And let me tell you – granola never tasted so good.

Some of my favourite ingredients for high-protein, high-fibre granola are oats, chopped almonds, chopped walnuts, chia seeds, coconut flakes, vanilla protein powder, chopped dried apricots and chopped dates.

2. Yoghurt bowl

Right now, yoghurt bowls are all the rage on the wellness side of social media. Put simply, use yoghurt as your base, and add your favourite toppings. I like to use Fage Greek yoghurt (good source of protein) or kefir (great for the gut).

Some tasty toppings include: 1) homemade granola and banana, 2) peanut butter (or any nut butter) and blueberries, 3) chopped pistachios and strawberries, and 4) Elle Gibson’s sticky toffee sauce, banana, and dates.

3. Mini protein pancakes

A sweet treat that’s high in protein AND tastes good? Yes please. Protein pancakes are so delicious and make the perfect dessert option after dinner. There’s tons of protein pancake recipes out there - my personal favourite is a lemon recipe on TikTok.

Don’t hold back on the toppings. I recommend banana and strawberries with some golden syrup, or just the traditional lemon and sugar.

4. Peanut butter and banana

This one is super quick and simple and makes for a great snack. All you need to do is chop a banana into slices, and sandwich two pieces with some peanut butter (or nut butter of your choice). Pop them in the freezer for a couple of hours and enjoy.

5. Stuffed dates

I absolutely love dates – specifically Medjool dates, which are a caramel-lover’s dream. Have some fun trying out different flavour combinations by making yourself some stuffed dates.

Some popular ideas are: peanut butter and flaky sea salt, chopped pistachios and pistachio spread, butter and flaky sea salt (think salted caramel vibes), and chopped hazelnuts and hazelnut spread.

6. Homemade pastries

Recently, I’ve really gotten into making pastries at home. It’s surprisingly simple, especially if you use a pre-made pastry sheet from the supermarket. You’ll certainly be able to get your sweet treat fix without any chocolate.

Over the weekend I had fun making raspberry Danish pastries as well as almond croissants, and they were so tasty. Social media is a great place to find some easy recipes.

7. Smoothie bowl

This one is great for the ice cream or smoothie lovers out there. Smoothie bowls are so refreshing and delicious. Choose your fruit, blend it up - the key here is to blend frozen fruit and ice cubes for that thick, frosty texture.

Then top with your preferred fruit. You can find tons of flavour combination ideas online, but my personal favourite is strawberry and banana with chopped bananas, granola, and a drizzle of honey.

8. Homemade flapjacks

Most flapjack recipes only require a few ingredients, and you’ll probably already have them in your kitchen cupboards. All you need is some butter, light brown sugar, golden syrup, and oats.

Whack it all in a pan and heat, and then bake in the oven. That’s all you have to do to make yourself an indulgent treat. Feel free to add in your favourite dried fruit or any nuts and seeds.

9. Banana bread

We all know the feeling of watching our bananas turn brown beyond consumption in the fruit bowl. The good news is that now they won’t go to waste. Every time I make banana bread, I’m reminded of just how good it is – and how easy to make.

10. Frozen yoghurt bites

This one is a tasty and nutritional sweet treat that takes literal minutes to prepare. All you need is your favourite fruit - be it strawberries, blueberries, bananas, raspberries or even orange slices – and mix in a bowl with greek yoghurt and honey. Set them in the freezer and enjoy a creamy, light treat.

Almost two-thirds (62%) of shoppers feel that loyalty cards only exist to get them to spend more money, rather than to reward them, according to new research.*

The figures are based on a representative survey of UK adults commissioned by MyVoucherCodes. They suggest that many Brits currently hold negative perceptions of such schemes, despite their potential to provide significant savings.

Yet, based on the findings, some shoppers now feel they’re being pushed into using loyalty cards in order to keep on top of costs, rather than signing up just to claim additional benefits. Two in five shoppers (40%) admitted that they feel pressured into joining these programmes to make their shopping more affordable.

Men and those from the Greater London area were the most likely to feel this way, according to the data. Around two in five (42%) men agreed that they feel pressured into using such programmes, alongside almost half (48%) of those from Greater London.

A similar percentage of all shoppers (38%) expressed concerns with how their personal data is being used when signing up to rewards schemes, indicating a potential lack of trust among shoppers.

Those who don’t have any of the listed loyalty cards are more likely to feel this way, with 46% of these shoppers stating this, suggesting that this is a major deterrent against loyalty card use for many Brits.

Not everyone agreed with this though, as over half of all shoppers (58%) said that they’re more likely to shop somewhere with loyalty schemes in place.

Tesco Clubcard, Sainsbury’s Nectar card and Lidl Plus are the loyalty schemes shoppers use most often, according to new research, suggesting they could be the top schemes for consumers to use.*

The figures come from the popular discount code site MyVoucherCodes. It surveyed shoppers on their usage of 19 major brands’ loyalty programs, uncovering which ones get the most use, potentially indicating which ones are most worth using.

Around two in five (39%) of those with a Tesco Clubcard said it’s the scheme they use most often out of those they’re signed up to, by far the most used loyalty program in the study.

A fifth (20%) of Sainsbury’s Nectar card holders said it was the card they used more often, making it the second most used in the UK. It’s then a big drop to Lidl Plus in third - 9% of its members said it was their most frequently used card.

The numbers highlight that supermarket cards are comfortably the most used across the country, with 6% of Morrison’s More and ASDA Rewards cardholders also stating they use them the most often.

Outside of supermarkets, Boots’ Advantage Card is the most used, with 3% of holders stating it’s the one they use most frequently.

Supermarket cards are also among the most-owned loyalty schemes, with Tesco Clubcard again being at the top of the list. Over three-quarters (78%) of shoppers said they own a Clubcard, while 60% said they have a Nectar card.

Boots was also the most owned card outside of supermarkets, with 45% of shoppers stating that they have one. Pret Perks had the fewest members out of those on the list, with only 2% of shoppers stating that they’re part of the scheme.

Overall, 94% of shoppers said that they own at least one loyalty card, highlighting that these schemes still have high uptake in 2025.

If you’re unsure of which ones are actually worth getting, these results highlight that supermarket loyalty programmes are the ones you’re probably going to use most often, since you’re likely to visit these stores so frequently.

It’s simple really. All you have to do is fill with your preferred choice of milk to the max line. Add your chosen Velvetiser drinking chocolate sachet. Pop the lid on, and hit the go button. Within a few minutes, you’ll have a luxury hot chocolate at the perfect drinking temperature.

Can you put any hot chocolate in the Velvetiser?

Hotel Chocolat does not advise that you do. However, the reality is yes, you can put other hot chocolates in the Velvetiser. While I haven’t tried this myself, you can use alternative hot chocolate flakes, like the Tesco hot chocolate flakes I spotted, or powders too.

Just be mindful that the Velvetiser has been designed for the Hotel Chocolat drinking chocolate flakes specifically, so you might not get the best results if using other options.

Using the Velvetiser for coffee

A less widely known fact is that the Hotel Chocolat Velvetiser can actually be used to make coffees too. This is actually one way I got more use out of mine. On their site, you can purchase a variety of mocha sachets – including caramel mocha, hazelnut mocha, and a selection box.

Using the Hotel Chocolat coffee sachets, the Velvetiser made fantastic coffees which were equally as delicious and smooth as the hot chocolates.

How to clean the Velvetiser

The Velvetiser is super easy to clean. In fact, the ease of cleaning the Velvetiser is by far one of the best pros of this appliance.

Once you’ve made your drink, simply fill with water and a bit of washing up liquid. Then pop the lid back on and press the button as if you’re making a drink. Once done, simply rinse out the remainder of the soap and you’re ready to go again.

The Velvetiser: my honest review

I’ve had the Velvetiser for over a year now so I’ve had my fair share of Hotel Chocolat hot chocolate experiences. Here’s what I really think.

How often did I use it?

I only really got it out of the cupboard in Winter. I found the drink quite rich which meant I only drank it occasionally, as a treat, rather than every day.

How easy is it to use?

It’s very easy and hassle-free for sure. It’s also very quiet which was a big thumbs up from me.

Did it actually make luxury hot chocolates?

Yes, the quality of hot chocolate is certainly barista grade. It’s everything they promise it to be - smooth, silky, and rich.

What are my favourite flavours?

My top flavours are the Milky 50% (great for a classic hot chocolate) and the Vanilla-white (super sweet, ideal for lovers of white chocolate).

Is it easy to clean?

Yes, it is exceptionally easy to clean. Every now and then, I’d find bits of chocolate that were stuck at the bottom, but it was nothing that a second rinse out didn’t fix.

Did the novelty wear off?

Yes, eventually the novelty did wear off. I thought I’d get it out when hosting to make guests a barista-grade hot chocolate, but in reality I didn’t. Though that’s not to say that the drinks were anything but delicious.

Is it a gimmick?

No, I don’t think it is. While I don’t use it as much as I’d like, it definitely does what it says on the tin.

Is it worth the money?

For me, I’m not sure it is entirely worth the money. It’s clearly a high-quality, well designed appliance, but I think considering I don’t get a huge amount of use out of it, I probably wouldn't repurchase.

The Velvetiser: would I recommend it?

To all of my fellow hot-chocolate fanatics, yes, I would recommend the Velvetiser. However, if you’ve got a limited budget, or a track history of other appliances gathering dust in the cupboard, I’d say give it a miss.

Your best bet is to try a more affordable dupe instead, like the Salter Chocolatier Hot Chocolate Maker for £37.99 or the Lakeland Milk and Hot Chocolate Frother for £49.99.

If, like me, you love getting more for your money, then you’ll be thrilled to know that the new range of Tesco Finest Belgian chocolate flakes might be a more affordable way to get your luxury hot chocolate fix.

For just £5.75 each, you’ll get a choice of four exciting options of their Belgian chocolate flakes. Flavours include 45% Milk, salted caramel & white chocolate, black forest, and 70% dark chocolate.

Like the Hotel Chocolat drinking chocolate, the Tesco alternative can be melted into hot milk for a smooth and rich hot chocolate. And yes – that does mean that you’ll likely be able to use them in your Velvetiser if you have one.

So, you’ve probably heard about the Stanley Cups that went viral on TikTok a few years back. For ages, I’ve struggled to drink water, and like most people, I wondered whether it was worth jumping on the trend to help myself stay hydrated.

I’ve had my fair share of un-aesthetic water bottles – everything from vacuum flasks that were impossible to keep clean and plastic bottles that shrunk in the dishwasher (yes, really), but I just couldn’t crack it.

Opening up my social media one day to see all of the TikTok girlies flaunting their Stanley cups, I wanted to find out which Stanley cup was the best.

Instantly, I loaded up the Stanley website to add one to my cart, but stopped dead in my tracks when I saw the price. If you're like me, being on a budget, I did what I always do when making an expensive purchase – I searched for a more affordable dupe.

If you’re anything like me and you have a bit of a shopping addiction, a key principle I like to live by is that before buying something pricey, I always try to find a cheaper dupe first. If I use it enough, I’ll upgrade – it’s a great way to test if I’ll actually use it, and that way there’s no big loss if I don’t.

I eventually settled on a Stanley Cup alternative for half the price on Amazon, and thus began trying to live a well-hydrated life.

Following through on my principle, once I’d used my dupe to the point where it was well and truly time for a new one, I decided to commit to a real Stanley and purchased the Quencher FlowState Tumbler, and then later, an IceFlow Flip Straw Tumbler too.

It was time to see if they really were worth all the hype.

Stanley Cup dupe Vs. real: Which is actually worth it?

Upon first glance, my £20 Amazon Stanley dupe was a dead ringer for my friends’ real Stanleys. It was available in a neutral cream, meaning I could be just as aesthetic as the Pinterest girlies. It was sturdy, and I liked that it came with two plastic straw options – one transparent and one translucent.

The only difference was that it was slightly smaller than the Stanley Quencher, which wasn’t necessarily a bad thing.

The question you’re probably asking is whether it kept my water cold – and the answer is yes, it did. When it came to ice, however, it is worth noting that it melted almost instantly, which meant my water wasn’t freezing cold. In terms of durability, it did chip on the bottom after some time.

In comparison, my £45 Stanley Quencher was fairly impressive. It was available in a whopping 23 colour options and made with 90% recycled stainless steel. If you're wondering if the Stanley Cup is dishwasher safe, you'll be pleased to know that it is. This is the biggest tick for me, making it super easy to keep clean.

It kept my water freezing cold far longer than my more affordable dupe, which helped me drink it consistently throughout the day and kept my ice in longer, too.

The downside to the OG Stanley is that it’s large and quite bulky, making it heavy and not ideal for transportation. The Stanley Quencher is not leak-proof (which is where the Stanley IceFlow Flip Straw comes in handy), so I often found it a little tricky to take it to exercise classes in case it leaked.

Saying that, it is now available in four sizes, so you can choose what suits you best.

Final verdict: is the Stanley cup worth it?

Out of the two, I’d say if you’ve got the budget, go for the OG Stanley. It promises to keep your water cold for up to 11 hours, and I’d say it certainly delivered. But if you do, maybe opt for a smaller one if you plan to commute with it.

If you’re tight on money, it’s definitely worth looking for an affordable dupe. There are tons out there which look just as good, if not better, and do a pretty decent job at keeping your water cold, too.

I think it’s safe to say that I am certainly a hydrated girly these days.

As of the 7th of October, Tesco and Cineworld launched 'Tesco Tuesdays', aiming to make Tuesdays the new 'movie night' for Clubcard members.

For just £2.50 in Clubcard vouchers, members can enjoy all of the latest 2D blockbuster releases in participating Cineworld cinemas. Morrisons has introduced Morrisons Now, a same-day service that delivers fresh groceries in as little as 60 minutes from participating stores.

The supermarket says the offer is live in around 158 locations and will expand to over 400 stores by the end of October through Morrisons.com and the Morrisons app.

Customers can order up to 30 items, track the delivery and earn More Card points on eligible purchases.

Morrisons confirmed a £4.50 delivery fee and a £15 minimum order for the service, which seems pricey compared to the £1 delivery days offered by Sainsbury's and the £1.50 delivery days by Tesco.

Morrisons Now is aimed at being a fast delivery service from local stores, and Morrisons suggested it's for "forgotten ingredients, surprise guests or last-minute cravings", not full shops.

Charlotte Exell, Group Online Director, said: "We are delighted to offer this service to our customers across the country... delivering what you need, within as little as an hour."

The move places Morrisons alongside other grocers with rapid delivery options while keeping the experience inside its own site and app. Morrisons is focused on "doing it themselves" rather than relying on third-party delivery services and marketplaces like their previous Deliveroo deal.

The company has not given an end date, indicating this is a permanent addition to their options rather than a short-term promotion.

SPAR Rewards is the closest thing SPAR has to a Tesco Clubcard, and it's free to join. Scan the app or a physical card at the till and you pay lower member prices on everyday items, collect stamps towards freebies, and get money-off vouchers sent straight to your phone.

There's one big catch that SPAR doesn't shout about, and it explains most of the confusion we see around this scheme. SPAR isn't one company in the UK. Its stores are supplied by different regional wholesalers, and each one runs loyalty differently. The SPAR Rewards card only works in participating stores in the North of England. Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland all do their own thing, and we'll cover each one further down so you don't sign up for a card you can never scan.

What is the SPAR Rewards loyalty card and how does it work?

SPAR Rewards launched as a trial through James Hall & Co, the family-run wholesaler that supplies SPAR stores across the North of England from its base in Preston. It started small, in around ten stores covering the Southport, Formby, Ormskirk and Preston areas, and has been rolling out to more James Hall stores since, including new SPAR sites opening in 2026.

Membership gets you four things:

• Member prices. Selected products carry a lower shelf price for Rewards members. Scan your card or app and the discount comes off automatically.
• Digital vouchers. Money-off coupons land in the app and apply themselves at the till when you scan, so there's nothing to clip or print.
• Stamp cards. Buy a qualifying item, earn a stamp. Collect the full set and you get that item free. The app shows exactly how many stamps you have left to go.
• Points. During the trial, members have collected a point per pound spent, which can be swapped for discounts or free products. Points offers vary by store, so check the app rather than assuming every branch runs them.

Everything is free. There's no membership fee, no subscription and no minimum spend to join.

How to register and activate your SPAR Rewards card

You can join in the app in about two minutes, and it's the same process whether you're starting fresh or activating a physical card you picked up in store.

How to download and register on the SPAR UK Rewards app

1. Download the SPAR UK Rewards app from the App Store or Google Play. Search "SPAR UK Rewards", as plain "SPAR" brings up the Irish and South African apps too.
2. Open it and tap Get Started.
3. Register with your email address and postcode, then set a password.
4. You'll land on the home screen with a digital card ready to scan. The app also drops a shortcut onto your phone's home screen so it's quick to find at the till.

How to activate a physical SPAR Rewards card online

If you grabbed a card at the checkout, activating it is just a different way of registering. Instead of using your email at the sign-up stage, enter the card number printed on it along with your postcode. That links the card to your new account, and from then on either the card or the app will work at the till and both pull from the same account.

If you don't have a smartphone

You don't need the app at all. A registered physical card gets you the same member prices and automatic voucher redemptions. You'll just miss the in-app extras like browsing the week's offers before you shop and watching your stamp progress.

Where can you use the SPAR Rewards card?

Participating stores are all in the North of England, across the network James Hall supplies, which stretches through Lancashire, Cumbria, Yorkshire, the North East and parts of Greater Manchester and Merseyside. Not every SPAR in the north takes part either, because plenty of stores are independently owned and opt in individually.

Before you shop, check the store list on SPAR's official Rewards page or use the store selector inside the app. It's worth doing even if you've used the card locally before, because rewards are store specific. A voucher or points offer available in your usual branch may not be running in the SPAR near work.

If you're anywhere else in the UK, don't bother downloading this particular app. Skip ahead to the section on Scotland, Northern Ireland and Ireland, because each has its own scheme and this card won't scan there.

How to use SPAR Rewards: points, stamps and vouchers

There's no separate redemption faff. Hand over your card or open the app and let the cashier scan the barcode before you pay (it works at self-checkouts too). Member prices and any eligible vouchers apply automatically in that one scan.

A few habits will squeeze more out of it:

• Scan every visit, even for a meal deal or a pint of milk. Vouchers redeem automatically, so an unscanned visit can literally cost you money you'd already been given.
• Check the app before you walk in. Offers change weekly, and it's the easiest way to spot which stamp promotions are running so you can pick the qualifying brand.
• Finish your stamp cards. The app counts down for you. If you're one coffee or one meal deal away from a freebie, that's the nudge to buy it at SPAR rather than elsewhere.
• Look out for the seasonal games. James Hall runs free web-based giveaways for North of England customers through the year. The current one is Win With Every Goal, the returning football promotion with over 350,000 instant prizes and a £10,000 jackpot, and you don't even need a Rewards card to play. Winners get a voucher by text to redeem in store.

Regional schemes: SPAR NI Rewards, Scotland and Republic of Ireland

This is the bit almost nobody explains, and it's why so many shoppers end up with an app that won't work. SPAR loyalty is regional, so here's the honest picture for each nation as of July 2026.

Scotland. SPAR Scotland (run by wholesaler CJ Lang) doesn't use the SPAR Rewards card. Instead, you can create a free MySPAR Scotland account online for coupons and competitions, and since May 2026 there's a proper loyalty app: My Barista Bar Rewards+, which rolled out across SPAR Scotland stores. It's coffee-led. Nine digital stamps earn a free hot drink, you get double stamps for bringing a reusable cup, there's a birthday reward, and a points programme sits on top for merchandise and offers.

Northern Ireland. Here's the trap. If you search the app stores you'll find something called SPAR NI Rewards, but it isn't for shoppers. It's a staff app from Henderson Technology that replaced the physical MyRewards card SPAR NI employees use for their store discounts. There's currently no customer loyalty card for SPAR NI's 400-plus stores. What shoppers do get is the Barista Bar coffee stamp app (the same scheme Scotland has just adopted, which started in NI) and regular in-store promotions and competitions.

Republic of Ireland. SPAR Ireland runs the most generous scheme of the lot, the My SPAR Rewards Club. You collect points on your shopping, get member-only dual pricing, earn a free hot drink after five, and can swap points for treats with partner brands including Penneys, Eason and Papa John's. Worth joining if you're over the border regularly.

SPAR Rewards troubleshooting and common problems

We've dug through the app store reviews and SPAR's own support pages, and the same handful of issues come up again and again. Here's how to deal with each one.

The card or app barcode won't scan at the till. Turn your screen brightness up and try again, but if a particular store's scanner still won't read it, ask the cashier to key in the card number manually. It's printed on the physical card and shown under the barcode in the app, and typing it in applies your discounts exactly the same.

You can't log in. Use the "I have an account" option rather than registering again, and sign in with either your email or your card number. Forgotten password? The reset link on the login screen sorts it in a minute or two.

The Apple Wallet button doesn't do anything. This is a known gripe in reviews rather than something you're doing wrong. SPAR doesn't officially support adding the card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet yet, so treat the in-app barcode as your wallet card, or carry the physical one if you prefer paying by phone.

Your vouchers didn't come off. Check you were actually signed in when you scanned, and that the voucher was valid in that specific store. Because rewards are store specific, a voucher issued around your local branch can be ignored by the till in another one.

Is the SPAR Rewards loyalty card worth it?

If you're in the trial area, yes, without hesitation. It costs nothing, takes two minutes to set up, and the savings are on exactly the things you pop into a SPAR for: bread, milk, meal deals and coffee. Reviewers are right that individual discounts can look small, sometimes pennies rather than pounds, but convenience store prices carry a premium over the big supermarkets, so anything that chips away at that on items you were buying anyway is free money. The stamp cards are the strongest part of the scheme, because a completed card means a genuinely free product rather than a token discount.

It won't replace a proper loyalty scheme for your main shop, and it isn't meant to. ASDA has lowered the price of 956 grocery products across stores and online. The supermarket reports that the reductions average around 6%, with some cuts reaching 30%.

The changes cover cupboard staples, household goods, and more, including 49 free-from products with prices reduced by up to 15%.

Examples include Yorkshire teabags 240 pack moving from £6.32 to £5, ASDA gravy granules from £1 to 0.69p and ASDA chicken tikka masala from £2.40 to £1.57.

Linking the decision to drop prices to the pressure on household budgets ahead of winter, Chief Customer Officer Rachel Eyre said, "We understand the pressure families are under from rising living costs." She added that ASDA is "cutting prices on the everyday products they rely on the most, helping them bring down their food bills and get even more value every time they shop with us.”.

The announcement drew a swift market response, with Tesco and Sainsbury's shares slipping on concerns about a sharper price battle ahead of the Christmas period. The Financial Times reports an average of 6% cut across over a thousand lines.

ASDA has not provided an end date, indicating that many of the new ticket item prices are intended to remain in effect rather than revert after a brief period.

ASDA has introduced a fixed-price Meal Deal set at £3.74 for all shoppers. The supermarket states that the offer is available across all ASDA stores, online, and at 478 ASDA Express sites. It replaces ASDA's previous three-for-two format at its Food to Go counters.

The range is extensive, featuring 132 mains, 336 snacks, and 222 drinks across its own label and branded lines. ASDA says customers can save up to 50% compared with buying the items separately.

Amy Wotherspoon underscores the deal, saying, "Great value should be available to everyone." The company is positioning its newly set price as the lowest, no-membership-required meal deal among the major chains, and it projected selling more than 700,000 in its first week.

Before you buy, ensure the meal deal badge is displayed on the product you want or on a shelf with a corresponding label.

ASDA's move comes at a time when many rivals are increasing prices across meal deals and lunchtime offers. Hardly surprising, given the cost-of-living squeeze and the price inelasticity that usually follows it.

Is Pret Perks Worth It?

I would say, yes, even if you don't go to Pret A Manger regularly. It's free to sign up for, and you can continue to go there as often as you like, eventually receiving a free treat once you've built up enough stars.

Club Pret is a different story, however. If you're a Pret lover and it's your go-to coffee shop, then Club Pret is a no-brainer. You'll be saving a fortune on coffees every month by paying 50% off Barista-made drinks (for up to 5 times a day). So if you were to purchase a coffee at £4, you'll only have to pay £2. Even if you only drink one coffee a day, that's a saving of £14 a week! Easily earning back the cost of signing up for Club Pret (£5).

If Pret isn't your go-to and you prefer other places or don't go there frequently, I wouldn't recommend signing up for Club Pret. It's a cost that isn't necessary to the average customer. Whilst £5 a month may not seem like a lot, if you don't visit Pret A Manger for an entire month, then it's a wasted £5, or if you only visit once a month and pick up one coffee, the cost outweighs the benefits.

Final Thoughts

Pret Perks offers a great way to earn some free treats to go alongside your coffee order. Whilst it doesn't net you a free coffee like other loyalty schemes, it is still free to sign up for. By not signing up, you're turning away free food.

Club Pret, however, I would hold caution. If you're a Pret A Manger regular, then yes, it's an amazing deal where you'll save a decent whack of cash. If you don't really visit Pret, I'd argue it isn't worth the asking price of £5 a month.

Sainsbury's is running a prize draw with Birds Eye that gives shoppers the chance to "win your share of 2 million Nectar points."

To enter, customers must purchase any Birds Eye product and scan their Nectar card or app in-store or online before Monday, 7th October 2025.

Sainsbury's reports that there are three prizes in total. One shopper will win 1,000,000 points, and two shoppers will win 500,000 points each. The winners will be notified within 28 days.

The real value is in entering without changing your weekly shop. Look for Birds Eye lines that already carry Nectar prices so you're not paying full RRP just to take part.

At the time of writing, I found Birds Eye Omega 3 fish fingers 10-pack are £1.50 with a Nectar card, double check your local store however, as prices and offers can vary from store to store.

Tesco has reduced the price of the Quality Street 550g tub to just £3.95 for Clubcard holders, with the offer available for deliveries and collections until September 30th.

The product page shows the standard shelf price at £7 and confirms the promotional window and unit pricing. You will need a Tesco Clubcard or the Tesco app to get the Clubcard price at checkout.

When shopping online, add the item while logged in to ensure the promotional price is applied to your basket.

Similar tubs are available at a comparable price this week. Tesco's chocolate tubs shelf shows Celebrations tubs joining the £3.95 Clubcard tier from September 24th to 30th.

A quick checkout tip for those stocking up early and ordering online. Tesco's delivery and Click & Collect charges vary depending on the time slot and location. Click & Collect typically incurs a small slot fee, and a minimum basket value applies for groceries.

It's cheaper to add your tubs to an existing order or your weekly shop rather than paying separately.

This deal puts Tesco at the top for the cheapest price on 550g Quality Street tubs, with Nectar prices at Sainsbury's costing £4.50 and Morrisons at £7 per tub.

Sixth-formers could soon get fairer access to member-only prices. Co-op and children's charity Barnardo's have called on UK grocers to let 16-17 year olds join loyalty schemes in their own right, arguing that age-18 limits lock younger shoppers out of cheaper "member price" baskets at the till.

Co-op says it is currently the only national food retailer offering independent membership for 16-17-year-olds. This makes sense, given that 18+ year olds shop for food, particularly meal deals, which are a lunchtime staple for students nationwide.

The push comes as students head back to college. Co-op's membership lead Rachel Halter said: "It seems wrong that we're close to giving 16-year-olds the right to vote, yet they are still denied access to basic savings on food in many stores."

Rachel continues to say “We see first-hand the volume of young people that come into our stores to buy food and drink, a number which increases during term times, as they depend on our stores during their studies. Research from Co-op has uncovered that 73% of 16 and 17-year-olds have chosen not to buy food or drink products from a retailer due to higher prices when not using a loyalty card.

The retailer says its young members save around £60 a year on average. Barnardo's chief executive, Lynn Perry, added that "nearly one in four secondary and college-aged students" struggle to access healthy food, urging rivals to expand discounts to under-18s.

Most big schemes still require you to be 18 to join. Tesco Clubcard terms state members must be 18+. Morrisons More also requires 18+ membership and recently tightened its rules from 16 to 18; myWaitrose is 18+. Sainsbury's Nectar says Primary Collectors must be over 18, but under-18s can be added as additional collectors on a parent/guardian's account (the adult remains responsible).

Note: Access to Your Nectar Prices requires the account holder to be 18+, but scanning that adult account at checkout unlocks members' pricing.

The campaign has been widely covered in national and retail press and follows a Co-op/Barnardo's policy push that began last year. The Independent reported that Co-op, Barnardo's and Which? have written to ministers seeking support to end under-18 exclusion in food retail.

Trade titles say the ask is straightforward: let 16-17s sign up independently so they're not paying more than adults for the same basket.

For money-savvy readers, the bottom line is practical. If you're under 18, use the existing routes (co-op membership or an adult Nectar/Clubcard scanned at checkout, as per scheme rules) while the sector decides whether to open up wider access. It's a small change that could cut the cost of lunches and top-ups throughout the term.

The Greggs App is simple on the surface. Scan, collect stamps, get free stuff. But the questions people actually ask about it, like whether you can add it to Apple Wallet or load a gift card into it, are surprisingly hard to get straight answers on. Some sites even get them wrong.

So we went through Greggs' own terms and conditions, promotions small print and FAQs, and put every answer in one place. Here's how the app really works, including the bits Greggs doesn't shout about.

What does the Greggs App do?

The app gives you five things: a stamp-based rewards scheme, a free welcome drink and yearly birthday treat, an Offers page with app-only deals, Click + Collect ordering, and an optional Wallet you can load money onto.

What it doesn't do matters just as much. It won't earn you rewards on Just Eat or Uber Eats orders, it won't hold your Greggs gift card, and it won't put your loyalty card in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. More on all three below, because these are the things that catch people out.

Can you add the Greggs App to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet?

No. This is the most searched question about the app, and the honest answer is that Greggs doesn't offer a native Apple Wallet or Google Wallet pass for its loyalty card. There's no "Add to Apple Wallet" button anywhere in the app, and no official pass to download.

Instead, your loyalty card lives inside the Greggs App itself. Open the app, tap Scan, and show the QR code at the till. If the first code won't scan, the scan screen offers backup codes you can use instead.

You may see third-party websites offering to generate an Apple Wallet pass from your Greggs QR code. These aren't run by Greggs, and they only give you a static copy of one code. You'd lose the useful parts of the app, like the toggle that lets you choose whether to spend or save a reward at the till. Our advice: skip them and keep the app on your home screen, which takes the same one tap to open.

One thing that confuses people: Apple Pay and Google Pay are supported, but as ways to pay inside the app, for Click + Collect orders or Wallet top-ups. That's payment, not your loyalty card. You'll still scan the app's QR code to earn stamps.

How Greggs stamps work: 9 stamps, 10th item free

You get six digital stamp cards in the app, one for each product category, covering things like hot drinks, sandwiches, savouries and sweet treats. Buy an item in a category, scan the app at the till, and you get a stamp on that category's card. Collect nine stamps and the tenth item in that category is free. It's the same collect-and-cash-in idea as the Lidl Plus app, just built around categories instead of coupons.

A few things from the small print that most guides skip:

Stamps come from scanning, not from how you pay. You don't need money in your Greggs Wallet to earn them. Pay with cash, card, Apple Pay or even a gift card, and as long as you scan, the stamp counts.

Not every purchase earns a stamp. Buys at Greggs Express locations don't count. At Greggs Outlet shops, full-price items earn stamps but reduced-price items don't. A multipack or sharing box earns one stamp, not one per item, and you can't redeem a multipack as your free item.

Meal deals have their own rules too. Order The Big Deal through Click + Collect and you get exactly three stamps (one each for sandwiches, drinks and savouries) whatever you actually picked. It's all in Greggs' promotions terms if you want the full detail.

Do Greggs rewards expire?

Yes, and faster than you might think. Once you've earned a free item, it lands in your app wallet and expires 31 days later. The welcome drink and birthday treat also carry expiry dates, shown next to each reward in the app.

There's a bigger deadline hiding in the terms as well. If you don't use your Greggs account for 24 months, Greggs can cancel it, and any money left in your Wallet becomes theirs. If you've loaded cash onto the app and drifted away from your local Greggs, it's worth spending that balance.

Greggs App freebies: welcome drink and birthday treat

Sign up to the app and Greggs drops a free regular hot or iced drink into your wallet, no purchase needed. Iced drinks are only available in selected shops, so a hot drink is the safer pick if your local is small.

Every year around your birthday, a free single-serving sweet treat appears in your wallet too. You'll need your date of birth filled in on your profile before the day, or it won't show up. To use it, toggle it on in your wallet and scan at the till, then pick anything from the confectionery range. Both freebies show an expiry date in the app, so don't sit on them.

Greggs App offers, promo codes and app-only deals

Beyond stamps, the app has an Offers page where Greggs drops limited-time deals you activate with a tap, things like double stamp weeks and free item promotions. These are opt-in, so check the page now and then or you'll walk straight past free food. One warning from the small print: once you tap Activate on some offers, a countdown starts, so don't activate until you're at the till.

Searching for a general Greggs promo code? Genuine ones are rare because Greggs prices low to begin with, and any site promising 50% off codes is wasting your time. Can you add a Greggs gift card to the app?

No, and this one trips up a lot of people because several websites claim otherwise. Greggs' own terms are clear: gift cards and voucher codes can't be used on app or website Click + Collect orders, there's no option to load a gift card balance into your app Wallet, and you can't buy a gift card using your app balance either.

Gift cards work in shop only. A physical card gets swiped at the till like any payment card. An e-gift arrives by email or text with an 8-digit code that staff enter into the card terminal. Cards stay valid for 24 months from the last transaction, and you can check the balance on the Greggs website.

The silver lining: because stamps come from scanning rather than paying, you can pay with a gift card in shop and still scan the app to collect your stamp. Someone else buys the sausage roll, you keep the loyalty points.

Greggs Wallet explained: top-ups, limits and part-payment

The Wallet is optional, and you genuinely don't need it to earn rewards. If you do use it, the minimum top-up is £5 and the maximum balance is £50. Auto top-up refills it automatically whenever you dip below £5, by an amount you set.

If your balance won't cover a purchase in shop, you can part-pay: the Wallet covers what it can and you pay the rest by card, with no minimum on the card portion. Part-payment doesn't work on Click + Collect though, so your balance needs to cover the whole order there.

And remember the 24-month rule above. Money loaded into the Wallet isn't protected forever.

How to use the Greggs App in store

Load your QR code before you reach the till, especially in shops with patchy signal. Tell the staff member if you have a reward to redeem, check its toggle is set the way you want (on to spend it, off to save it), and scan. Greggs recommends setting toggles while you've got a decent connection, since they can be slow to update otherwise.

That's it. Scan first, pay second, and the stamps sort themselves out.

Does the Greggs App work with Click + Collect, Just Eat or Uber Eats?

Click + Collect lets you order ahead, pick a five-minute collection slot and skip the queue. You earn stamps on these orders automatically as long as you're logged in, and that applies whether you order through the app or the Greggs website.

Delivery is a different story. Orders through Just Eat or Uber Eats don't earn stamps and can't redeem rewards, something Greggs says it's working on but hasn't changed yet. Is the Greggs App worth it?

If you visit Greggs even a couple of times a month, yes. It's free, the welcome drink alone is worth a couple of quid, and the birthday treat comes round every year whether you've earned stamps or not. Regulars who buy in the same category (a daily coffee, say) will hit a free item every ten purchases, which works out at roughly a 10% saving on that habit.

If you only wander into Greggs a few times a year, your visits will spread thinner than the stamps can stack, but the sign-up drink and birthday treat still make the download worthwhile. Morrisons has added a new perk for More Card members this month: if you spend £10 or more in a single in-store transaction and scan your card at the till, you receive a voucher for a free hot drink to use in a participating Morrisons café. The promotion runs until Sunday, 28th September 2025, with one free drink per week per member.

The mechanics are straightforward. After your qualifying £10 shop, the voucher either prints at the till or lands in your Morrisons More Card app as a digital coupon. If it's digital, you may need to activate it in the app before ordering at the café.

Drinks included range from standard coffees and teas to cappuccinos, lattes, hot chocolate and herbal teas, but the offer is for cafés only, not takeaways. It also doesn't apply online, in Morrisons Daily convenience stores, or at Brew Bars, and the £10 spend is counted after any discounts are applied.

Several outlets have already flagged the short once-per-week limit, so the best play for regulars is to time a weekly grocery run to trigger the voucher, then redeem it the same week on your next visit (or straight after your shop). If you don't use the app, keep an eye on your till receipt for a printed coupon.

In a bid to help parents across the UK while they battle the rising prices of energy and food in the UK, Aldi is freezing the price of their Mamia baby formula through to the end of 2025.

The price of Mamia First Infant Milk will stay at £6.99 throughout 2025. In comparison, at ASDA, for the same size tub of formula, Cow & Gate currently costs £9.28, Aptamil costs £12.82, and Little Steps costs £8.43.

Julie Ashfield, the Aldi UK chief commercial officer, said, "Shoppers should not be paying over the odds for the essentials. As the UK’s cheapest supermarket, we’re committed to keeping prices low on the products our customers rely on most."

"As formula prices remain at historic highs across the market, we want to reassure parents that at Aldi, there will be no unwelcome surprises at the checkout – we’re keeping our Mamia First Infant Formula at just £6.99 for at least the remainder of this year."

Despite Mamia and all branded baby formula being nutritionally adequate for infants, the most expensive formula available at ASDA, Kendamil Goat, is currently almost three times the price of Mamia.

The UK regulations require that all baby formula meet the same nutritional standards. This means you'll be getting the same nutritional value in Mamia formula that you would in the big-name brands.

As well as freezing the price of their baby formula, Aldi is supporting parents with the Mamia New Parent Fund. This scheme allows parents to apply to win a £100 voucher a week to spend in any UK Aldi store. Simply email mamiaparentfund@aldi.co.uk with a receipt showing your latest Mamia nappy purchase.

One parent will be chosen each week, and this scheme will remain open until March 2026.

Morrisons is trimming the cost of around 650 everyday products, and doing it for a defined window, not just a weekend flash sale. The supermarket reports an average reduction of about 18%. This change will be live in-store and online for four to eight weeks from the beginning of September.

The list of products leans heavily on weekly staples and household basics such as chicken breast fillets, rice and pasta, and fresh vegetables, plus kitchen and toilet roll and laundry pods. There's also a cold-weather nudge with soups and cold and flu tablets among the lines going down in price.

Morrisons' pricing lead Alex Paver says the aim is straightforward: make the shop feel better value on the things people actually buy. As he put it, "We're cutting the prices of over 650 items… so customers can trust they're getting real value."

The retailer is backing the movie with national ads and in-store signage to make reduced lines easier to spot. It's important to remember that these are temporary reductions, not a long "price-lock", so try and plan your cupboard top-ups inside the 4-8 week window

M&S has announced that it's investing £340m ($465m) into a state-of-the-art food automation hub. Promising to revolutionise the way products are moved from the supplier to the shelves.

By using advanced technology such as AI and robotics, this automated distribution hub will cut waste, improve efficiency and allow products to reach store shelves faster.

The Managing Director at M&S Food, Alex Freudmann, said, "This investment will boost capacity for future growth, lower our cost to serve over the long-term, and improve product availability – ensuring customers find the right products in the right place at the right time."

The construction of the distribution hub aims to create more than 2000 jobs, and once construction is complete, 1000 permanent jobs will be available.

Alex Freudmann said, "Our new site will strengthen our network and help us get ahead of the volume curve as we build a bigger, better Food business. By using the latest, proven automation, we are future-proofing both our business and UK retail logistics, as well as creating 1000 jobs permanently on site and 2000 during the construction phase."

The Regional Head of Prologis UK, Paul Weston, said, "This development goes beyond real estate – it’s a long-term infrastructure platform tailored to M&S’s future supply chain. Together, we’re combining automation, sustainability and smart energy systems to deliver a site that supports growth, resilience and net zero ambitions.”

The facility is expected to open in 2029 and will be based at Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal.

Families struggling with the cost-of-living crisis have been hit with another hurdle, with food inflation rising by 4.2% from 4% in July. This is the highest inflation since February 2024.

High prices of chocolate, butter and eggs seem to be the main culprits, while fresh food has also risen by 4.1% from 3.2% in July.

The chief executive of the BRC, Helen Dickinson, said, "This adds pressure to families already grappling with the cost of living. Retailers continue doing everything they can to limit price rises for households, but as the Bank of England acknowledged, the £7 billion in new costs flowing through from last year’s budget has created an uphill battle for retailers."

"Staples such as butter and eggs saw significant increases due to high demand, tightening supply, and increased labour costs. Chocolate also got more expensive as global prices of cocoa remain high owing to poor harvests."

Over 60 retail bosses that including Sainsbury's, Tesco's and Boots, have sent a letter warning Chancellor Rachel Reeves against raising taxes further in the autumn budget, as it will contradict her plans to improve UK living standards.

They later go on to say that they're expecting food and drink inflation to rise to 6% later this year.

Mike Watkins, head of retailer and business insight at NIQ, said, "The uptick in prices reflects several factors: global supply costs, seasonal food inflation driven by weather conditions, the conclusion of promotional activity linked to recent sporting events, and a rise in underlying operational costs."

Brits are changing the way they shop as supermarket own-label ranges continue to rise.

However, at the same time, shoppers are still spending more on organic products. Two trends, both running hot.

Figures from the Soil Association show sales of organic food and drink jumped 7.3% in 2024. That pushed the market to £3.7 billion, almost twice the size it was ten years back. Shoppers are still opting for organic eggs, milk, and fresh vegetables, even while cutting costs elsewhere.

And then there’s own-label. Cheap pasta. Bread. Frozen chips. The basics. Data from The Grocer shows supermarket-brand goods grew by more than 3% in value last year.

A Savills report in July said growth was closer to 4.2%. Analysts at Atlante now estimate that own-label products make up over half of all grocery sales by value in the UK.

So what’s going on? It’s a balancing act. Households are trading down on basics but still spending a bit extra on food they feel good about. McKinsey’s State of Grocery report states that retailers are leaning into this mix, building up their private brands while keeping organic lines on shelves to capture shoppers who won’t give them up.

However, that's not to say that expensive brands mean better quality. McKinsey also reports that 81% of shoppers believe that own-brand products are equal in quality to A-brands.

Supermarket trolleys are combining the cheaper items with the pricier ones: store-brand pasta in one bag, organic carrots in the other. Families are cutting costs but not completely sacrificing quality.

Buy nine barista-made drinks at Caffè Nero and the tenth one is free. That's been the deal since the little blue card first appeared in the nineties, and it's still the deal today. What has changed is everything around it: how you collect, what counts, and, since late 2024, whether you can earn a stamp at all when you're using a discount.

Most guides stop at "download the app, collect nine stamps". Fine, but that doesn't help you at the till when you've got three seconds to decide between scanning a discount code or your loyalty card. So we've done the sums. Here's how the scheme works in 2026, what a single stamp is worth in real money, and when you should ignore it completely.

How the Caffè Nero loyalty card works in 2026

The scheme lives in the Caffè Nero app now. You scan a QR code at the till each time you buy a barista-made drink, and a stamp lands on the digital card in your account. Reach nine stamps and a free drink voucher drops into your app wallet automatically. Then the card resets and you start again.

What earns a stamp is broader than people think. Anything the barista makes counts, from an espresso to a hot chocolate, and the iced range too, including fruit boosters and frappé crèmes. Bottled drinks, cans and packaged snacks don't, which is why a meal deal sometimes leaves your card untouched.

If you're wondering about the old paper stamp card, that era is over for new stamps. The app arrived back in 2017, and The Grocer reported at the time that it would eventually make the 20-year-old paper cards redundant. That's now happened in practice. If you've still got a part-filled paper card in a drawer, ask a barista on your next visit and they can move those stamps into your app account.

There's also a physical loyalty card available at the till for anyone who'd rather not scan a phone, but it has to be linked to an app account to redeem anything.

One quirk worth knowing: you don't have to pay through the app. There's a "Collect Stamps Only" barcode inside it, so you can pay cash or card as normal and still get your stamp.

What counts as a Caffè Nero stamp?

You get one stamp when you buy a handmade drink prepared by a Caffè Nero barista. That includes coffee, hot chocolate, iced drinks and similar barista-made drinks. Bottled drinks, water, orange juice, packaged snacks and food do not count.

That distinction matters because not every Caffè Nero purchase moves your loyalty card along. A latte should earn a stamp. A bottle of water and a sandwich probably will not. If your app looks like it has missed a stamp, the first thing to check is whether the item was actually a qualifying drink.

You also do not need to pay through the app to collect. Use the "Collect Stamps Only" barcode, scan it at the till, then pay by card or cash as normal.

How much is a Caffè Nero stamp worth?

This is the question nobody answers, so let's do it properly.

Say your regular order is a latte at around £3.90. Nine of those costs £35.10. Your reward is one free barista-made drink of any size, and here's the first trick: nothing says it has to match what you usually buy. Redeem the voucher on the most expensive eligible drink on the menu, and some of the elaborate iced ones push past £4, so call your free drink £4.15.

That makes each stamp worth roughly 46p. Put another way, the scheme hands you back about 11 to 12 per cent of what you spend on drinks. For a loyalty card that costs nothing to join, that's genuinely strong.

For comparison, most UK coffee schemes work out at around 10 per cent, one free drink per ten bought. We've broken down how the Costa Club works if you want to see the difference side by side.

Now the number that changes everything: the reusable cup bonus. Bring your own cup and Nero adds an extra stamp on top of your purchase stamp. Two stamps per visit means you hit nine after four or five drinks instead of nine. Your spend per free drink drops to roughly £17.50, and the effective return jumps to over 20 per cent.

If you do one thing after reading this, it's leaving a clean cup with a lid in your bag. A daily Nero drinker who never brings a cup is quietly giving up around a free drink a month.

Caffè Nero stamp or discount code: which should you use?

Here's the bit that changed and caught regulars out. Until autumn 2024, you could scan a third-party discount, something like tastecard or the Compare the Market Meerkat code for 25 per cent off, and still collect your loyalty stamp on the same order. Nero closed that door. These days, a drink bought with most external discounts no longer earns a stamp. It's one or the other.

So which do you scan? The maths is one-sided. On a £3.90 latte, a 25 per cent discount saves you about 97p right now. A stamp is worth about 46p, and you don't even see that value until the card is full. The discount beats the stamp roughly two to one, every time it's available.

If you've got access to a 25 per cent code, use it and forget the stamp on that visit. If you're paying full price anyway, scan for the stamp. That's the whole decision.

A tastecard membership covers that Nero discount along with restaurant and cinema deals, and there are often trial offers that make the first months cheap or free, so heavy coffee drinkers can come out well ahead even after the membership cost.

One exception sits outside this rule. Partner freebies, like the free coffee vouchers that appear through mobile network perk apps, are treated differently to percentage discounts. According to Caffè Nero's own app support pages, the general rule is that a partner free-coffee voucher still earns you one stamp, as long as you scan your "Collect Stamps Only" barcode first, before the partner code.

Some newer offers exclude this in their terms, so it's worth a glance at the small print, but when it works you're getting a free drink and progress towards another one. That's the best value moment the whole scheme offers.

How to get free drinks faster

Beyond the reusable cup, a few habits speed things up without spending more.

Bring a reusable cup. This is the easiest win. One drink usually means one stamp, but a reusable cup gives you an extra stamp on the same visit. If you buy Nero regularly, this is the difference between a nice loyalty scheme and one that actually starts feeling generous.

Refer a friend. At the time of writing, referring someone through the app earns you two free drink vouchers once they make their first purchase, and they get a welcome drink too. If only one of you and a partner or colleague has the app, you're leaving drinks on the table.

Use Click & Collect. Ordering ahead through the app earns stamps as normal, and Nero has historically attached bonus vouchers to first-time Click & Collect orders. Check the offers tab rather than assuming, because promotions rotate and different accounts often see different deals.

Watch for seasonal games. Nero leans on gamification more than its rivals. Past Decembers have brought in-app advent calendars and prize draws, plus golden bonus stamps handed out at random. None of it is guaranteed, but the promotions tab is worth opening in November.

Pay with a gift card inside the app. You can link Caffè Nero gift cards to your account, which keeps payment and stamp collection in one scan, and doubles as a way to cap your coffee spending.

Do Caffè Nero stamps expire?

Stamps themselves never expire. Take two years to fill a card if you like. The free drink voucher is different: it lasts 18 months from the day your card completes, then it's gone.

People do lose them, usually because the voucher sits in the app wallet rather than on the stamp card screen, so out of sight, out of mind.

Two redemption details trip people up. Screenshots don't work, because voucher QR codes are dynamic, so you need the live app open at the till. And redeem like you mean it. The voucher covers any size, so ordering your usual small americano with it wastes half its value. This is the one day the large iced pistachio thing is the financially sensible choice.

Don't buy Caffè Nero stamps online

An odd corner of the internet, this one. Search for Caffè Nero stamps and you'll find listings on auction sites offering fully stamped cards, loose stamps, even the stamper tools themselves. Give it a miss.

Selling or buying stamps breaks the scheme's terms, but the practical problem is bigger than the rules. Rewards now live inside individual app accounts as dynamic QR vouchers, so a paper card bought from a stranger proves nothing about whether the reward attached to it still exists, and staff can refuse anything that looks off.

You'd be paying real money for something that may be worthless at the till, when a reusable cup gets you there legitimately in four or five visits anyway.

Is the Caffè Nero loyalty card worth it?

The Nero scheme is still the simplest of the big coffee loyalty programmes, and with a reusable cup it's comfortably one of the most generous, returning over 20 per cent to regulars who play it right.

The rules that matter in 2026 boil down to three lines: bring a cup, take the discount over the stamp when you have one, and redeem your voucher on the most expensive drink you can find. Do that and the scheme stops being a nice-to-have and starts behaving like actual money off.

Caffè Nero loyalty card FAQs

Iceland has confirmed it is scrapping its long-running Bonus Card and moving customers onto a fully digital loyalty scheme called the Bonus Club.

The new programme launches on 26 August and will be rolled out across stores and online. Instead of simply loading money onto a plastic card, members will earn £1 back for every £20 spent, enjoy free delivery on orders over £40, and get access to discounts on more than 500 everyday items.

To encourage sign-ups, Iceland is offering a £5 welcome credit to new customers. In comparison, existing Bonus Card holders will automatically receive a £2 thank-you credit if they activate the app between August 26 and September 1.

Shoppers will need to download the Iceland app or register online to access the new offers. However, the retailer states that anyone without a smartphone can still join by linking their account to their phone number in-store.

Richard Walker, Executive Chairman of Iceland Foods, said, “We’re evolving our Bonus Card into the new Bonus Club, bringing more value, more benefits and even more reasons to shop with us. What better way to celebrate than by going big with our Mega Deals Event?”

The timing is no coincidence. Food inflation has eased from last year’s highs, but prices for many frozen and packaged goods remain stubbornly elevated.

By replacing the paper card with a digital set-up, Iceland can issue weekly personalised offers as well as run “mega events” on bulk buys, something the old system couldn’t manage.

Iceland’s shake-up also puts it more directly in line with other big supermarkets. Tesco’s Clubcard already gives members exclusive “Clubcard Prices” on thousands of products.

At the same time, Sainsbury’s Nectar scheme now offers personalised “Your Nectar Prices” at the till, with some households saving up to £150 a year.

Unlike those, however, Iceland’s Bonus Club adds a clear cashback element, with money credited straight back onto the account, and free home delivery thrown in too.

For regulars, the appeal is straightforward: free delivery plus cashback on top of special offers could add up quickly. A household spending £80 a week could earn around £200 a year back in Bonus Club credit, alongside access to regular price cuts.

Tesco has raised the price of its lunchtime meal deal for the third time since 2022, and some customers say the "deal" isn't living up to its name.

From this week, the popular offer of a sandwich, snack and drink is £3.85 with a Clubcard or £4.25 without. The premium option, which includes hot food and branded items such as Yo! Sushi has climbed to £5.50 with a Clubcard and £6 for non-members.

It's been a steady climb since 2022 when a Clubcard meal deal was £3. By 2023, it had reached £3.40, and last year it increased to £3.60. The latest rise represents a 28.33% increase over the past three years, while the cumulative effect of inflation since 2022 has been 21.98%.

In short, this means shoppers are paying 6.35% more than inflation for their meal deals, and supermarkets warn that the price could increase even further.

The change comes while food inflation remains stubbornly high. Prices for basics like meat, coffee, and juice are still around 5% higher in July than they were a year earlier. Rival Sainsbury's upped its deal to £3.95 earlier this year as a result.

Not all shoppers are taking it in stride, and it's understandable given the cost of a British staple is rising faster than inflation.

One shopper posted on X (formerly Twitter): "Discovering that a Tesco meal deal will be £3.85 with a Clubcard from Thursday was truly devastating." While another questioned if it was even a deal anymore.

Retailers argue they're under pressure too. The British Retail Consortium (BRC) has warned that new business taxes or packaging rules could push food inflation up to 6% this year, making it harder to keep popular offers affordable.

For now, the math technically still works: buying the same items separately can cost nearly £8. But after three hikes in three years, many shoppers scrolling through social media are asking the same question: Is it still a deal worth grabbing, or is it time to start looking elsewhere for a better deal?

Shoppers heading into Poundland this week may notice some unusually steep discounts. The retailer has kicked off closing-down sales at 12 of its stores, including its branch in Killingworth, Newcastle, with price cuts of up to 75% on everyday items.

Nando's Rewards looks simple on the surface. Spend £7, get a Chilli, collect Chillies, get free chicken. But the details trip people up, and a lot of what's written about the scheme online is out of date. Nando's quietly updated its Rewards terms in February 2026, and those terms now exclude specific menu items from each reward tier, spell out how the Chilli counter resets, and confirm that your £7 is measured after any discounts. We've gone through the current terms line by line so you know exactly what you're entitled to before you get to the till.

What is Nando's Rewards?

Nando's Rewards is the chain's free loyalty scheme, and it works like a digital stamp card. Every day you spend £7 or more at Nando's, you earn one Chilli. Collect enough Chillies and you unlock free food, starting with a starter or quarter chicken and building up to a whole chicken meal.

You'll sometimes hear it called the Nando's Card, because that's how you use it. Sign up for a free account on the Nando's Rewards page and you get a digital card to add to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, plus one bonus Chilli just for registering. Physical cards still exist too. You can pick one up at the till in participating restaurants while they have stock, but you'll need to register it online or in the app before you can redeem anything. Chillies can be earned on an unregistered card, but rewards can't be claimed until it's linked to an account.

To join you need to be 14 or over and live in the UK. That's it. There's no fee, no tiers to maintain and no minimum number of visits.

How Nando’s Chillies work: £7 spend, one Chilli per day

The earning rule is short but has more small print than people realise. You get one Chilli per day when you spend £7 or more, and that £7 is counted after any discounts or rewards have been applied. So if you use the NHS discount, a promo code or a free reward and your bill drops below £7, no Chilli. Worth knowing before you stack every saving in one order.

A few more things that don't count towards the £7: gift card purchases, bag charges, delivery fees and small order fees. It's food and drink spend only.

You can earn Chillies eating in, on Click & Collect, and on delivery ordered through Nando's website or app. At the till, tap your phone (or hand over your physical card) at the contactless reader before you pay. Ordering online or at the table through the QR code, just make sure you're logged in to your Nando's account first. This is the trap that catches most people: if you use Guest Checkout when ordering at your table, you earn nothing, even though you're sat in the restaurant spending well over £7. Log in every time.

Two limits to remember. It's strictly one Chilli per day, no matter how many qualifying orders you place, and Chillies are personal to your account. They can't be pooled with a friend's card or merged across multiple cards, so if you're eating in a group, paying separately on your own accounts is the only way everyone earns.

Chillies usually appear in your account within 48 hours for in-restaurant orders, and up to three days for delivery orders.

The Green Reward: 3 Chillies

Your first reward lands at three Chillies. A Green Reward gets you a free quarter chicken, three chicken wings, or any starter, with one exclusion: the Dare to Share (the pick-three starter combo) doesn't qualify.

If you're chasing value, the quarter chicken is usually the priciest eligible item at around £5.50 to £6, though a chunkier starter like the halloumi sticks runs it close. Prices vary slightly by restaurant, so it's worth a glance at the Nando's menu for your local before you decide.

The Orange Reward: 6 Chillies

At six Chillies you unlock an Orange Reward: a free half chicken, or any single burger, pitta or wrap. The word single matters, as double versions aren't included, and neither are four of the fancier options. The Sunset Burger, Garlic Churrasco Burger, Chickle Burger and Butterfly Burger are all excluded under the current terms. The Garlic Churrasco in particular still gets recommended in older guides as the best Orange Reward pick, but it no longer qualifies, so don't get caught out ordering it.

With those off the table, the half chicken is generally your strongest choice at around £9 to £9.50, and it's the classic Nando's order anyway.

The Red Reward: 10 Chillies

The big one. At ten Chillies, a Red Reward is worth a free whole chicken, any single burger, pitta or wrap with one or two regular sides, a PERi-PERi chicken meal with one or two regular sides, or a salad or bowl with a protein.

Take the two sides if you're going the meal route. It's one or two regular sides, and plenty of people only claim one because they assume a "meal" means a single side. That's a free portion of chips or spicy rice left on the table.

The Red Reward has the longest exclusion list of the three, so here's what doesn't qualify under the February 2026 terms: PERi-Mac & Cheese, Portuguese Tomato Salad, Charred Corn and Rostinas can't be your regular sides, and you can't redeem it against 10 Chicken Wings, 10 Extra Saucy Wings, Wing Roulette, Nandinos kids' meals, Sharing Platters, Fully Loaded Chips or the Butterfly Burger. Limited-time and trial items are generally out too. And if you customise a burger, pitta or wrap with extras like halloumi or avocado, the reward covers the base item and you pay the difference.

On pure value, the whole chicken (around £16) and a burger with two regular sides come out roughly level, so order whichever you'd actually enjoy. The full exclusions live in the Nando's Rewards terms and conditions if you want to check an item before you visit.

Do Nando’s Chillies reset when you use a reward?

No, and this is the bit almost everyone gets wrong, including some big money-saving sites. Redeeming a reward has no effect on your Chilli balance or your progress towards the next reward. Your Green and Orange Rewards are banked as you pass three and six Chillies, and they sit in your account whether you spend them or not.

The counter only restarts when you hit ten Chillies and earn your Red Reward. And here's the detail buried in the terms that no one seems to mention: your balance doesn't reset to zero, it resets to one. In other words, the day you bank your Red Reward, you're already a Chilli into your next cycle. Over a couple of years of regular visits, that quietly shaves a visit off every loop.

Do Nando’s Chillies or rewards expire?

Chillies never expire. Rewards do. Each reward is valid for 366 days from the day you earn it (a full year, leap years included), and anything unredeemed after that is removed from your account for good. You can check what you've got and when it runs out in the rewards section of the app or your account at nandos.co.uk, so set yourself a reminder if you've got a Red Reward gathering dust.

Forgot to scan your Nando’s Card? How to claim missing Chillies

If you paid without scanning your card, keep the receipt. You have 180 days from the date of the order to claim the Chilli back through your Nando's account, which is one of the most generous claim-back windows of any UK loyalty scheme. Log in, add the receipt details, and the Chilli should appear within a couple of days. Six months is plenty of time, but it only works if the receipt survives, so photograph it before it fades in your coat pocket.

Can you earn Nando’s Chillies on delivery, Deliveroo or Uber Eats?

This one confuses people because Nando's delivery is actually powered by Deliveroo behind the scenes, yet the rules treat the two completely differently. Order delivery through the Nando's website or app while logged in and you'll earn Chillies and can redeem rewards. Order through the Deliveroo app or website itself (or Uber Eats, or Just Eat) and you get nothing: no Chillies earned, no rewards redeemable. Same food, same driver in some cases, very different loyalty outcome. Always start your order at nandos.co.uk or in the Nando's app.

One more online quirk: when you're eating in, you can redeem as many banked rewards as you like in one visit, but online orders are limited to one reward per order. If you've got a Green and a Red saved up for a takeaway feast, you'll need to split them across two orders or save one for a sit-down visit.

Where to find your Nando’s Card number

Your card number sits with your digital card in the Nando's app, and you can also see it by logging into your account at nandos.co.uk. If you're at the till without your phone, staff can look you up, or just keep the receipt and claim the Chilli later. Lost a physical card? If it was registered, log in and use the Request Card option and Nando's will send a replacement to your registered address with your balance intact. Unregistered cards can't be recovered, which is the best argument there is for registering yours today.

How to get the most value from Nando’s Rewards

The scheme rewards habits more than spending, so a few small changes make a real difference. Pay separately when you eat in a group, because one bill earns one Chilli for one account, while four people paying £7 each earn four. Aim your order at the £7 line rather than well past it, since a wrap and a bottomless drink clears it comfortably. Add your card to your phone's wallet so scanning is never the thing you forget. And check your banked rewards before you order, because a forgotten Green Reward is a free starter you paid full price for.

Rewards also stack with discount codes. Nando's confirms you can earn and redeem rewards on the same order as a promo code, so it's worth checking the latest Nando's discount codes before you order. Just remember the £7 Chilli threshold is measured after the discount comes off, so on a small order a code can save you money but cost you the Chilli. Decide which you'd rather have. Nando's Rewards FAQs

UK supermarket loyalty schemes do offer real savings, according to a detailed review by the Competition and Markets Authority. In findings published on November 27, 2024, the CMA stated that the evidence shows loyalty prices provide “genuine savings” for shoppers, not just marketing spin.

The regulator examined around 50,000 loyalty-priced products across the major chains and found that 92% were cheaper than the usual (non-member) price. On average, shoppers saved 17%–25% when buying items at loyalty prices at Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Co‑op and Waitrose.

The CMA notes that these deals are generally genuine, although not always the absolute cheapest option on the market, so a quick comparison is still worthwhile.

Reporting on the findings, Reuters quoted the CMA’s interim executive director of consumer protection, George Lusty, "We found that almost all the loyalty prices reviewed offered genuine savings against the usual price, a fact we hope reassures shoppers."

The loyalty‑pricing review began in January 2024 and closed in November 2024. The CMA’s July update had already signalled it was unlikely to find widespread evidence of misleading promotions; the final report confirms that position.

The Holiday Activity and Food programme (HAF) have announced the return of their popular scheme that offers free meals and activity clubs during certain school holidays, including the 2025 summer holiday and will run until the 17th of August. The UK government is currently funding this scheme, with local councils organising the activity clubs around England.

If your child meets the criteria for free school meals (for example, being in reception, year 1 or year 2), they will be able to access this scheme. Other criteria include whether your family receive select benefits or asylum support.

The programme is designed to help school children from reception to year 11. HAF aim to give school children healthy meals, enjoy fun physical and socialising activities and more during the school holidays.

The holiday clubs provided by local councils are made available to any children regardless of whether or not they're eligible for the free meals, but children who are not eligible for free meals will have to pay to attend. To find out more about the activities, families are urged to contact their local councils.

While this scheme will cover the summer holidays, HAF do not cover half-term weeks. The support scheme is available over Christmas, Easter and the summer holidays.

If you believe your child is eligible for free meals and the free activity clubs, simply complete the application form and submit it to your child's school. If you are eligible, you will receive an email from your child's school on the 25th of June.

Lidl has quietly edged ahead of Morrisons to become Britain’s fifth biggest supermarket for food and drink. It’s the first time Morrisons has dropped below the top five since Kantar Worldpanel began tracking supermarket sales data in the UK.

Figures released this week show Lidl now claims a 7.7% share of the food and drink market, just above Morrisons on 7.6%.

The numbers reflect sales up to 13 July, highlighting how the German discounter’s mix of low prices and rapid store openings continues to win over British shoppers.

According to industry analysts, Lidl’s food sales jumped by more than 10% over the period. Morrisons’ sales also grew, albeit by a much more modest 1.5%.

To be clear, these figures don’t include things like petrol or non-food items you might pick up in the same shop. If you look at overall grocery market share, including non-food, Morrisons still has a slight edge – 8.4% compared to Lidl’s 8.3% according to Kantar’s broader ‘till-roll’ data.

But that gap is closing, and experts say it may not be long before Lidl overtakes Morrisons there as well.

A spokesperson for Morrisons acknowledged the shift, stating that the change is partly due to Lidl’s rapid pace of store openings. They also pointed out that some of their growth, "the numbers are partly a function of new supermarket openings, where we haven’t added new space for some time, and the survey doesn’t capture all of the growth we are seeing in convenience and wholesale, and our Myton manufacturing business,” they said.

The new ranking comes just three years after Aldi leapfrogged Morrisons to become Britain’s fourth-largest grocer.

Lidl, which is set to open its 1,000th UK store this autumn, is advancing plans to reach 1,500 sites nationwide.

Tesco is launching a free fruit scheme for children across its UK stores this August, aiming to help families cover the cost of healthy snacks during the school holidays.

From the 4th to 17th August, any child visiting a Tesco with their family can pick up a piece of fruit at the checkout, at no charge.

The supermarket says it expects to give away more than 3.5 million apples during the two-week campaign.

The offer is part of Tesco's broader initiative to make healthy eating easier and more accessible. Alongside the free fruit, Clubcard members will see extra rewards for buying fruit and vegetables during the same period.

Tesco says around four million Clubcard holders will be eligible for bonus points and stamps when they add fresh produce to their shopping baskets, which can be redeemed for money-off vouchers for future purchases.

Ashwin Prasad, Tesco's UK CEO said "we understand that for many, there are barriers that make healthy eating feel hard. We want to help our customers make small changes that amount to big health benefits for themselves and their families."

The campaign has also drawn support from the government. Health Secretary Wes Streeting pointed out that childhood obesity rates have doubled since the 1990s and said supermarket initiatives, such as Tesco's, play a role in making it easier for families to access fresh food.

Tesco is also using the campaign to highlight its refreshed "five-a-day" online recipe hub, featuring simple meal ideas for families looking to incorporate more fruit and vegetables into their routines without breaking the bank.

Sainsbury's shoppers looking for more ways to beat the weekly food shop squeeze can now get personalised "Your Nectar Prices" deals at checkout in-store, not just through the app.

As of 25 July, Sainsbury's has extended its popular loyalty scheme to work at all tills, which means anyone with a registered Nectar Card can access up to ten tailor-made discounts each week, simply by scanning as they pay.

This is a big step for regular shoppers, especially those who sometimes forget to check their digital deals or find it fiddly to use their phone in-store.

Now, as long as you've unlocked your offers on the app or website on a Friday, you just need to scan your card or app, and your best deals will be automatically applied at the till.

Mark Given, Sainsbury's chief marketing officer, summed up the move by saying, "shoppers want to feel recognised and rewarded, and while Nectar is for everyone, we know customers love an offer that is made just for them. That's exactly what Your Nectar Prices delivers, it's about giving customers those extra savings on the products they love and buy most."

Sainsbury's says the average customer could save up to £150 a year just by using these personalised offers. They also state that customers have already saved over £30 million this year by using Your Nectar Prices in-store via SmartShop.

It's not all plain sailing, though. Some regulars have taken to complaining that needing to unlock their deals every week feels a bit like homework.

Either way, with food costs still pinching and many of us looking for new ways to stretch our budgets, this update to Nectar Prices will be a welcome change for many, and a reminder to check your app each Friday before shopping.

Waitrose has recently announced the launch of its new delivery subscription service after a widely successful and popular trial. They're offering three options for subscribers to choose from: you can get a one-month plan for £8, a six-month plan for £45 and a 12-month plan for £85. In comparison, Tesco charges £47.94 for 6 months and £83.88 for 12 months, and Morrisons charges £8 for one month, £45 for 6 months and £70 for 12 months.

Without a delivery subscription, a delivery from Waitrose costs anywhere between £2 and £4. Waitrose estimates that customers will save £4 a week (if they have one delivery per week) if they sign up to the annual plan, saving up to £123 per year.

Whilst not the cheapest delivery subscription service when compared to other supermarkets, it should definitely save customers some cash as opposed to paying for delivery separately from the subscription.

The Director of Waitrose Online, Laura Burbedge, had this to say on the matter, "We're investing in our online business to continuously improve it, giving our customers even greater value and the best possible experience. Thousands of customers signed up for Delivery Passes through our trial, so we expect to see strong demand across the UK as we roll it out".

In a bid to further improve their loyalty program, Waitrose has started offering discounts to loyalty customers who order via Uber Eats and link their My Waitrose account to their Uber Eats account.

Aldi has launched a Summer Support Scheme, offering £50 vouchers to families across the country daily during the school holidays.

One family each day between July and August will win a voucher to spend in-store on groceries, snacks or Specialbuys

To enter, parents simply email their name and address to SummerSupportScheme@aldi.co.uk. Winners are drawn at random, and vouchers can be used on everyday essentials or treats, such as food, toys, or garden games.

Julie Ashfield, Aldi's Chief Commercial Officer, explains the reasoning behind the initiative: "The school holidays can put extra pressure on finances, especially when it comes to keeping children fed, entertained and active during the six-week break.
