The nationwide study reveals that the average yearly spend has climbed to £141.15 in 2026, up from £108.59 in 2025. The £32.56 increase per child will further strain family finances.

And the spending doesn’t end when the school gates open in September. More than half of parents (57.9%) say they will have to spend even more on uniforms over the rest of the year, anticipating an average additional expenditure of £129.09 to cover replacements, growth spurts, and seasonal changes.

As parents struggle to navigate the loss of daily school routines, the financial and professional strain is forcing many families into drastic trade-offs to keep afloat.

While 48% of respondents spend £0 on paid childcare during school holidays, often relying on help from family and friends. Those who do pay face steep costs. One in five parents (25%) spend £100 or more per child, per week on holiday care, during the weeks in which paid childcare is used.

To cope with these soaring expenses, parents report taking extreme financial measures:

• 23% have dipped into emergency funds or savings.
• 23% have cut back on basic household essentials, including groceries and utilities.
• 18% have turned to credit cards, loans, or overdrafts to bridge the gap.
• 12% have been forced to skip or shorten a planned family holiday.

The impact extends far beyond household budgets, taking a heavy toll on parents' professional lives. A striking 63% of parents say the school holidays impact their working lives.

A staggering 70% of people in Wales say they feel anxious about the prospect of more frequent or severe heatwaves in the UK. Breaking this down, 19% report feeling very anxious, while 51% feel somewhat anxious about upcoming weather shifts.

Sudden, unexpected expenses compound the emotional worry. During the recent June heatwave, 56% of Welsh households reported additional spending as a direct result of the weather, while only 38% reported spending nothing extra.

This unexpected financial strain forced many families to adapt. Among the Welsh households that incurred extra costs because of the heatwave, a substantial minority say they had to cut back on non-essential spending just to afford these heatwave-related expenses. For others, the buffer was even thinner, with households reporting they needed to use credit or dip into savings to manage the additional costs.

Travel Disruption and Health and Safety Concerns 

Beyond financial strain, high temperatures are altering daily habits and threatening well-being across the transport network. While the majority noted that their journeys remained unaffected, significant disruptions occurred:

Households are facing a brand new summer sting, with new data revealing that half (52%) of Brits were forced to shell out extra cash just to cope with the recent June heatwave. 

New data also revealed  56% of UK adults are gripped by "heatwave anxiety" as sudden summer spikes lead to unexpected outgoings. 

The YouGov study, commissioned by money-saving site MyVoucherCodes, exposes the true cost of Britain’s changing weather. It reveals that the soaring temperatures are not just draining the UK's water supplies; they are draining our wallets, too. 

The Shock Cost of Staying Cool 

According to the findings, the vast majority of the nation saw their usual outgoings skyrocket during June’s heatwave. Brits scrambled to buy fans, paddling pools, and extra refreshments to beat the heat. 

• 52% of households admitted to spending extra money as a direct result of the June heatwave.
• Just over one fifth (21%) blew over £50 on heatwave essentials.
• Around 20% of hard-pressed Brits estimate they splashed out more than £100 just to stay cool.

'Heatwave Anxiety' Sweeps the Nation 

It isn't just our bank balances suffering; the unpredictable British weather is taking a massive toll on the nation's peace of mind.

A staggering 56% of UK adults confess they now suffer from anxiety at the thought of more frequent or severe heatwaves hitting the country. Within that group, 17% describe themselves as "very anxious" about future weather extremes, while 39% are "somewhat anxious."

Is there a padlock on your browser address bar? Does this website normally sell aircon units or fans? And if you are still unsure, copy and paste the URL into Google's Safe Browsing Site Status. Finally, pay with a credit card if you can; this way, there is a chance you will get your money back if your purchase was a scam.
• Close your windows - Leave windows, blinds and curtains closed during the hottest part of the day. This is generally between 11 am and 4 pm.
• Unplug ‘phantom’ heat sources - Electrical devices that generate heat, even in standby mode. Some of the biggest culprits are game consoles, desktop computers and chargers.
• Swap the oven for the microwave - Using the oven in a heatwave is a bad idea. It will heat your kitchen fast. If you need to cook, use the microwave or airfryer. This saves money too.
• Ditch bottled water - instead use a refillable water bottle. Not only does this save money, but it’s better for the environment.

• Almost 80% of concert-goers agree that everyday fans are getting priced out of concert tickets.

The study found that 18 -24-year-olds are particularly dedicated to the live music scene, as 54% have attended a concert over the 12-month period. However, how affordable these gigs are can be questioned when 1 in 7 of all concert goers admit to using BNPL services such as PayPal, Klarna or Clearpay to buy tickets.

Among the younger generation, a fifth of 18-24-year-old concert goers say they attend gigs to connect with other fans of the same artist. Showing that social interaction is a priority within this demographic, despite the cost.

When it comes to travel,1 in 10 of 45-54-year-olds surveyed said they have travelled outside the UK to see an artist, highlighting a willingness among this age group to go the extra mile for a unique experience.

The average spend on Father’s Day gifts and cards this year is expected to reach £54.38, new research from leading discount code website MyVoucherCodes has revealed.

This figure is £14.63 more than the average amount Brits were planning to spend on Mother’s Day this year, which was revealed in research also commissioned by MyVoucherCodes, with the amount totalling to £39.75.

When it comes to gift preferences, those buying for their dads and step dads say alcohol and food items top the list, each chosen by 27% of the 2000 respondents, followed closely by gift cards, which account for 24% of purchases.

The survey also explored dream gifting scenarios, revealing that if money were no object, 28% of Brits would buy their dad a holiday home.

However, not all gifts hit the mark. The research showed that jewellery ranks as the least ideal gift for dads, with 17% of respondents naming it as their least preferred option.

Holiday bookings in the Easter school holidays are down by 12% compared to 2025, new research from MyVoucherCodes has revealed.

Just 26% of Brits have booked a holiday in the upcoming Easter school holidays (March 29^th-April 9^th), compared to 38% in 2025.

Concerns surrounding global events appear to be influencing travel behaviour. The survey found that 12% of people have changed or avoided holiday plans in 2026 due to world events causing travel concerns. Within this group, 3% say they have cancelled a planned holiday, while 9% say they have avoided booking a trip altogether.

The findings also show a decline in domestic breaks. In 2026, 15% of people say they are planning a UK staycation, down from 25% last year, suggesting that even UK trips are seeing reduced demand.

Spending on Easter holidays has also fallen year-on-year. On average, Brits are spending £965.78 on an Easter holiday in 2026, compared with £1,271.86 in 2025.

Families are also tightening their budgets. Among respondents travelling with children, the average Easter holiday spend for one child is £1054.44 in 2026, down from £1,238.50 in 2025. For those travelling with two children, the average spend is £1,160.86 this year, compared to £1,561.60 last year.

"The drop in Easter holiday bookings this year shows that many Brits are feeling cautious about travel, whether that’s due to global uncertainty or simply rising costs. This Easter, Brits are set to spend an average of £16.57 on Easter eggs, according to new research from discount voucher code website MyVoucherCodes.

The study reveals clear differences in spending across age groups. Those aged 18–24 are expected to spend less than the average, at £14.27. Men planning on buying a card and gift for their mums this Mother’s Day are set to spend more than £20 extra compared to women, according to new research from discount voucher website MyVoucherCodes.

The study found that men expect to spend an average of £54.08 on a card and gift for their mum or step-mum this Mother’s Day, while women plan to spend significantly less at £31.82 - a difference of over £22.

Despite the spending gap, enthusiasm for celebrating Mother’s Day is equal. The research revealed that two-thirds (66%) of people plan to buy a Mother’s Day gift in 2026, with the figure identical for both men and women (66%).

Across all shoppers, the average combined spend on a Mother’s Day card and gift in 2026 is £39.75.

When it comes to the most popular presents, traditional choices continue to dominate. Nearly half (47%) of shoppers say they will buy flowers, followed by chocolates (31%) and a meal out (16%).

However, not everyone remembers the occasion every year. As part of the research, 17% of people admitted that they have forgotten to buy a Mother’s Day present in the past.

The study also explored how mums who are in contact with their mum would ideally like to spend the day itself. When asked what they would most like to avoid doing on Mother’s Day 14% said cooking, 12% said cleaning, and 10% said rushing around doing errands.

New research from MyVoucherCodes suggests that while Artificial Intelligence can master complex algorithms, it can't master love. The study indicates that the cold efficiency of a chatbot is no match for genuine human effort, with almost half of the nation viewing AI-assisted romance as a clinical shortcut rather than a thoughtful gesture.

Not only would 41%* of Brits think twice about a relationship with an

AI-dependent partner, but it seems they aren’t impressed with AI helping out with gifts either.

77%* of those surveyed won’t be swayed by the convenience that AI tools can bring when shopping, either. It seems that searching for the perfect gift is something that must come from the heart, not a bot.

The same applies to making romantic plans. 87% of Brits will provide the personal touch and plan a wedding proposal themselves. And 75% still enjoy making date night plans without the help of AI.

• Cook a meal or bake a cake. Nothing says ‘I love you’ more than an act of service. Avoid the typical Valentine’s Day set menu at a restaurant and cook your partner their favourite meal or cake. Almost two-thirds (62%) of shoppers feel that loyalty cards only exist to get them to spend more money, rather than to reward them, according to new research.*

The figures are based on a representative survey of UK adults commissioned by MyVoucherCodes. They suggest that many Brits currently hold negative perceptions of such schemes, despite their potential to provide significant savings.

Yet, based on the findings, some shoppers now feel they’re being pushed into using loyalty cards in order to keep on top of costs, rather than signing up just to claim additional benefits. Two in five shoppers (40%) admitted that they feel pressured into joining these programmes to make their shopping more affordable.

Men and those from the Greater London area were the most likely to feel this way, according to the data. Around two in five (42%) men agreed that they feel pressured into using such programmes, alongside almost half (48%) of those from Greater London.

A similar percentage of all shoppers (38%) expressed concerns with how their personal data is being used when signing up to rewards schemes, indicating a potential lack of trust among shoppers.

Those who don’t have any of the listed loyalty cards are more likely to feel this way, with 46% of these shoppers stating this, suggesting that this is a major deterrent against loyalty card use for many Brits.

Not everyone agreed with this though, as over half of all shoppers (58%) said that they’re more likely to shop somewhere with loyalty schemes in place.

Tesco Clubcard, Sainsbury’s Nectar card and Lidl Plus are the loyalty schemes shoppers use most often, according to new research, suggesting they could be the top schemes for consumers to use.*

The figures come from the popular discount code site MyVoucherCodes. It surveyed shoppers on their usage of 19 major brands’ loyalty programs, uncovering which ones get the most use, potentially indicating which ones are most worth using.

Around two in five (39%) of those with a Tesco Clubcard said it’s the scheme they use most often out of those they’re signed up to, by far the most used loyalty program in the study.

A fifth (20%) of Sainsbury’s Nectar card holders said it was the card they used more often, making it the second most used in the UK. It’s then a big drop to Lidl Plus in third - 9% of its members said it was their most frequently used card.

The numbers highlight that supermarket cards are comfortably the most used across the country, with 6% of Morrison’s More and ASDA Rewards cardholders also stating they use them the most often.

Outside of supermarkets, Boots’ Advantage Card is the most used, with 3% of holders stating it’s the one they use most frequently.

Supermarket cards are also among the most-owned loyalty schemes, with Tesco Clubcard again being at the top of the list. Over three-quarters (78%) of shoppers said they own a Clubcard, while 60% said they have a Nectar card.

Boots was also the most owned card outside of supermarkets, with 45% of shoppers stating that they have one. Pret Perks had the fewest members out of those on the list, with only 2% of shoppers stating that they’re part of the scheme.

Overall, 94% of shoppers said that they own at least one loyalty card, highlighting that these schemes still have high uptake in 2025.

If you’re unsure of which ones are actually worth getting, these results highlight that supermarket loyalty programmes are the ones you’re probably going to use most often, since you’re likely to visit these stores so frequently.

More than one in five UK residents (22%) have previously had to forgo visiting friends or family over Christmas due to spiralling travel costs, new research has revealed.*

The figures highlight the impact extortionate travel fees are having on the nation’s festive plans, with many being completely priced out of seeing loved ones.

The figures come from a new survey by MyVoucherCodes, which asked the nation about its Christmas travel plans. It found that Londoners are especially likely to miss out.

More than a third (39%) of those in the capital stated that they have had to make this difficult choice at least once in the past - the highest percentage in the UK.

According to the popular voucher code site, UK residents will spend an average of £108.41 travelling to visit loved ones over the festive period, equal to approximately £5 billion nationwide.**

Costs are to be particularly high for Londoners, who are expected to spend an average of £170.64 visiting friends and family, indicating this is the reason why they are most likely to opt against travelling.

Younger groups are also expected to be among the largest spenders on Christmas travel. Under-25s will pay an average of £156 visiting loved ones this year - over £100 more than over-65s, who are forecast to spend just £44 on average.

Under-25s are also most likely to rely on public transport, with just 46% saying they will travel by car - the lowest percentage in the UK. This indicates that public transport fees are responsible for their especially high travel costs.

Overall, most of those travelling said they will visit loved ones via car over Christmas (71%). Just under a quarter (23%) said they will get a train, while around one in 10 (13%) are planning to take a coach or bus.

The average Brit will be spending £377.98 on Christmas gifts in 2025, an increase of £32.63 compared to last year’s average of £345.35, marking a rise of 9.5% in festive spending, new research from leading online discount website MyVoucherCodes has revealed.

The survey found that people in the Northern Ireland are the most generous gift givers, splashing out an average of £452.38 on presents this Christmas, while Londoners are set to spend £393.24.

Despite rising living costs, many are still prioritising Christmas gifting, but some are looking at ways to make their budgets stretch further. When asked what they’d cut back on to save money this festive season, 36% of respondents said they would go out less, 34% plan to buy fewer clothes, and 27% will skip a Christmas holiday or getaway this year.

Shopping habits also continue to shift online, with 39% of people saying they’ll be doing their last-minute Christmas shopping on the internet. Among younger shoppers aged 18–24, that figure jumps to a huge 61%, reflecting the growing trend toward digital convenience and online deals.

A whopping three quarters of Brits (75%) have visited a Christmas market, cementing them as one of the nation’s favourite winter traditions, new research from leading discount site MyVoucherCodes has revealed.*

The survey found that a further 12% of respondents haven’t yet attended one but plan to in the future, while only 9% said they have no intention of ever visiting a Christmas market.

According to the findings, the average Brit has been to five Christmas markets, spending £109.58 at each one – covering everything from mulled wine and festive food to gifts and decorations.

While online shopping remains king, with 67% planning to browse and buy from the comfort of their own home, many shoppers will still take to the shops, with 17% saying they will head to the high street and 11% looking to visit discount outlets.

A mix of payment methods

As spending rises, so does the variety of payment options consumers intend to use:

• 54% will pay with a debit card
• 41% with a credit card
• 27% with cash
• 13% using a Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) services

Imagine starting your day knowing you've already banked over £2,000 this year. Sound like a fantasy? I thought so too, until I uncovered the startling truth about my finances. As a shopping and lifestyle expert for MyVoucherCodes, I’m constantly recommending ways in which others can save a few quid. And yet, I had been haemorrhaging money for years without giving it much thought. My biggest financial drain happened between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. My seemingly harmless morning routine, packed with takeaway coffee, the forgotten gym membership, and the daily meal deal, was secretly costing me a fortune!

After calculating the total, I overhauled my habits and discovered five simple, stress-free swaps that saved me over £2,244 annually. So, if you’re ready to stop letting your morning routine drain your bank account, I have 5 tips to help you do just that.

• Ditch the expensive coffee habit. The average spend on a takeaway coffee in the UK is between £3 and £5. I was spending around £4 a day on coffee 5 days a week, that’s a whopping £20 a week or £80 a month! It’s clear to see there are huge savings to be made by making your own. Invest in a good quality travel mug and save up to £960 a year.
• Make breakfast affordable and nutritious. Starting the day with a healthy breakfast is essential. I love making overnight oats, and in an airtight container, they last up to 5 days. A 1KG bag of Harvest oats, available at Tesco, is just 85p; the entire bag for one person will last around a month. Add your favourite fruit, nuts or seeds each morning for variety. This avoids picking up additional pastries or bacon sandwiches on the way to work!
• Swap the gym for a home workout. We all know that gym memberships are expensive. My local gym is reasonably priced at £28 a month. After a year of membership, I began to consider how much I could save by exercising at home, combined with regular power walks in my local area. And the answer is £336 per year. I now use free workouts available on YouTube and the great outdoors as my gym, and I haven’t regretted a thing!
• Leave the car at home. Use public transport, cycle or walk to work. This saves money on fuel and parking. Yes, the journey might take longer, but it gives me time to read or just enjoy my own thoughts behind my headphones. And knowing I don’t need to find or pay for a parking spot makes me feel like I’m winning. For me, leaving the car at home and using public transport instead worked out about the same financially. However, I found it less stressful and it’s better for the environment.
• Take a packed lunch. From occasional cafe trips to daily meal deals, it all adds up! Prepare your lunch at home the night before and take it with you to work. If you can save up to £960 a year on coffee, think how much you could save on lunch! The nearest supermarket to my workplace charges £3.95 for its cheapest meal deal. Over a five-day week, that’s £19.75! So, potentially, you might be spending around £948 a year, even when opting for this supposedly ‘budget-friendly’ option.

A new survey has revealed that while almost four in ten (39%) UK adults have attended a live music concert or gig in the last year, a significant number are feeling the pressure of rising costs, with the average fan spending £318 annually for standalone live music gigs/concerts in the past 12 months.

The study, conducted by MyVoucherCodes, shows that despite the cost-of-living crisis, live music remains a vital part of UK culture. The appetite for live events is particularly strong among the younger generation, with over half (54%) of 18-24-year-olds having attended a gig in the last 12 months.

However, the financial strain is evident. The research found that almost one in seven (14%) of all concert-goers have used BNPL services like Klarna, PayPal, or ClearPay to purchase tickets. This figure soars to almost a quarter (24%) among 25-34 year olds, suggesting that for many, the cost of a ticket has become unaffordable.

The findings also reveal how concert goers are saving money on tickets:

• Buying pre-sale or early-bird tickets: 22% of fans use this method to secure a better price.
• Opting for cheaper seating: 19% choose tickets in less expensive parts of the venue.
• Attending midweek concerts: 11% of concert-goers save money by avoiding peak weekend events.

The research also uncovered some surprising generational trends:

• Travel for the ultimate gig: Almost one in ten (10%) of 45-54 year olds who attend concerts have travelled outside the UK to see an artist, highlighting a willingness among this age group to go the extra mile for a unique experience.
• The social connection: A fifth of 18-24-year-old concert goers say they attend gigs to connect with other fans of the same artist, underscoring the communal and social aspect of live music for this demographic.
• Filming vs. Experiencing: Nearly six in ten (58%) of 18-34 year old concert-goers film at least part of the event on their phone, a stark contrast to just 18% of those aged 55 and over, who are more likely to be present in the moment.

The overwhelming sentiment among fans is that the industry is becoming unaffordable. Almost eight in ten (79%) concert-goers agree that everyday fans are being priced out of attending live events.

The average person is planning to spend £104.21 on Halloween this year, up from £61.50 in 2024 - a 69% increase in spending, new research by leading discount voucher website, MyVoucherCodes.

This year, people are spending £43.77 on food and drink, versus £24.60 in 2024. On costumes, they are set to spend £31.17, up from £19 last year. And on decorations, they are splurging £29.26, up from £17.90 last year.

The research also shows that more people are joining in the spooky fun this year, with 55% of respondents saying they’ll celebrate Halloween in 2025, compared to 48% in 2024.

When it comes to Halloween traditions, the research found that the majority of people still get involved in trick-or-treating, with 58% saying they welcome trick or treaters at their doors. However, 38% admitted they don’t answer the door when they come around.

How much should you spend on secondary school text?

How much you spend must be based on what you can realistically afford. Avoid Payday loans or financing gadgets with high-interest rates, as these can quickly spiral out of control, and you end up paying far more. First, consider any government scheme and refurbished tech to save money.

How can I get cheap laptops or tablets for school?

• Consider buying refurbished technology. It’s often just as good as new for significant savings. Online stores such as MusicMagpie and eBay offer warranties and very competitive prices. I buy refurbished tech all the time.
• Use cashback and voucher sites. Quidco or a voucher site such as MyVoucherCodes, they're free and easy to use, and it's worth having a browse to save some money.

• Amazon Fire Tablets are inexpensive (often under £100), but note that the cheaper models include "special offers," which are ads on the lock screen and sometimes the home screen. You need to pay a fee when ordering to remove these.

What school grants and support is available?

There are numerous grants and funds available for families who may need assistance in buying school tech and supplies. Here are a few of Nathan’s suggestions.

• Computers4Charity is a fantastic company that takes donated computers and refurbishes them, and either donates them to schools or sells them at a discounted price.
• The Good Things Foundation is a digital inclusion charity that has helped over 1 million people across the UK through its services and the national device bank.
• The Family Fund helps children with disabilities or illnesses by providing grants to cover tech such as computers.
• ILF Scotland's Technology Grant offers a free iPad or Surface Go 3 (with accessories) to disabled children aged 16-25 in Scotland
• Gardner's Trust for the Blind grants up to £600 toward adapted computers and software for blind children.
• Bursaries - students aged 16-19 in England can get bursaries to help pay for school-related tech and equipment, while school children in Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland can get EMA to help with costs

Pitfalls and what not to do

Ditch the big brands. Apple and Samsung are very well-known and offer student deals, but for what is needed in high school, you don't need flashy, expensive tech. A £150 Chromebook will cover your child just as fine.

Do not buy Microsoft Office. Students from high school to university can get Microsoft Office for free, saving you up to £70 depending on where you would have bought it from.

More than four (44%) in 10 parents of children of school age splurge the most on shoes, while 16% shell out more on blazers, and 11% splash the cash the most on stationery.

In a sign of savvy shopping habits, the survey also revealed that 42% of parents now opt for second-hand clothes to help ease the financial burden.

A further 38% of parents admit they have bought plain clothing and attach the school logo separately, saving an impressive £44.43 on average over the course of the year.

When it comes to timings, the research shows that 12% of parents start back-to-school shopping in the first week of the summer holidays, while 14% wait until week three, and a very organised 13% start as early as April.

• Host or Join Uniform Swaps – Team up with other parents to trade gently-used uniforms and save money for everyone involved.
• Buy Second-Hand – Platforms like Vinted, Facebook Marketplace, and local uniform exchanges can be goldmines for high-quality pre-loved uniform items.
• Buy Plain, Add Logos – Purchase plain supermarket clothing and attach school logos yourself. Many parents report saving over £40 per child with this method.
• Shop Out of Peak Season – Start early to beat price hikes and low stock in August. Consider shopping during sales earlier in the year.

Grandparents are set to spend a third (33%) more on their grandchild(ren) than last year, a new study has revealed.

The new research, which was undertaken by MyVoucherCodes and polled 1000 grandparents with grandchildren under 18 from across the UK, has found grandparents will spend £21.05 per day on their grandchildren this year, versus £15.80* per day in 2024.

The study also revealed that more than half (53%) of grandparents will step in to look after their grandchildren this summer, a rise of 8% from last year.

When asked how often they will be looking after their grandchildren, more than one in ten (12%) said they’ll be providing care every day during the school holidays, and a third (33%) will help out two to three times a week.

Younger grandparents are the most frivolous when it comes to spending on their grandchildren, with those aged 35 to 44 splurging an average of £32 per child per day, while those aged 65 and over plan to spend £16.11.

Unsurprisingly, the rising cost of entertaining grandchildren is causing concern, with one in four grandparents (26%) admitting they are worrying somewhat about the cost.

Shoppers are set to splash out almost £10 more on Father’s Day this year than they did on Mother’s Day, according to new research from leading online discount site MyVoucherCodes.

On average, people expect to spend £54.06 on a card and gifts for their father or stepfather this Father’s Day, compared with £44.80 for Mother’s Day back in March – an increase of £9.26.

The results, from a survey of 2,000 people across the UK who are in contact with their father or stepfather, shows that the biggest spenders are those aged 25 to 34, who are planning to spend an average of £78.24.

Across all age groups, the most common gifts expected to be bought for Father’s Day are alcohol (23%), food (21%) and a meal out (17%).

However, the survey also reveals what dads want and what they’re likely to receive. While many people plan to give consumables, the most desired Father’s Day gifts are a day out (20%), tech items (19%) and a meal (18%).

 England and Wales are home to some fantastic family-friendly hostels. Book directly with the hotel

If a hotel stay is your perfect break, book directly with the hotel. Third-party sites are often more expensive, so contacting the hotel yourself might save you a few quid. And if you are booking last minute, don’t be afraid to haggle. You might be able to negotiate a cheaper price or bag a free breakfast, or upgrade.

Cadbury Mini Eggs have been revealed as Britain’s favourite Easter egg, with more than one in five (21%) picking it as their top choice, according to research from discount voucher site MyVoucherCodes.* 

Cadbury also took second and third spot, with 19% of people choosing Crème Egg and 17% opting for Dairy Milk. 

The survey also found that the average person is planning to spend £18.75 on Easter eggs in total this year, with those aged between 25 and 34 spending the most in total at £24.25. In terms of regional data, it’s Londoners who are the most generous, spending £25.62 each on eggs.

When looking at the greatest amount Brits are willing to spend per egg, it’s those aged 25 to 24 splashing the most cash, at £8.28, 24% more than the national average of £6.67.

Almost four in 10 (38%) Brits are planning to take a holiday during the upcoming Easter holidays, according to new research undertaken by discount voucher site MyVoucherCodes.

The study shows that one in four (25%) respondents are going on a UK-based trip this Easter with 13% opting to travel abroad. Two-thirds (64%) of people aren’t travelling anywhere.

Notably, more men than women are getting in on the Easter getaway action, with almost half (46%) of male respondents saying they’ll be heading on holiday compared to just 31% of women. 

It’s those aged 25 to 34 most keen to holiday this Easter, with 67% planning a holiday. Meanwhile, 57% of those aged 18 to 24 are also planning a getaway.

When it comes to cost, the average Brit is spending £1271.86 on their Easter getaway, although this drops by almost £400 for those without children, who spend an average of £863.40   .

The research also reveals that families with children are expected to spend significantly more on their Easter breaks. The average spend for a parent with one child is £1238.50, while families with two children are set to spend £1561.60.

Almost half (49%)** of chocolate-loving Brits would ditch a traditional Easter Egg and replace it with a bar if it meant they get more weight in chocolate, a recent study has 

found.

The cost of Easter eggs has risen over the last few years, and it seems that Brits may be tired of paying the price. A recent survey from MyVoucherCodes has revealed that getting more chocolate is far more egg-citing! 

The research found that regionally, a chocolate bar instead of an Easter egg is the preference for those living in Northern Ireland, with 61% admitting they’d prefer a slab of chocolate. Londoners are next in line, with 54% opting for a bar instead of an egg. 

How much can you save by swapping eggs for bars?

• Look for brand alternatives. Budget supermarkets like Lidl and Aldi offer similar eggs to the big brands at cheaper prices. For example, an 80g bag of Aldi’s Dairyfine Mini Chocolate Eggs is just £1.25.
• Remember to make use of loyalty and reward cards like Nectar and Tesco Clubcards. Not only can you spend points on Easter goodies, but you can also snap up eggs at Clubcard prices.

New research has revealed that mothers and stepmums aren’t getting what they truly want for Mother’s Day.

The most-wanted gift for Mother’s Day 2025 is a spa day, but the top present children are giving is flowers.

New data from the discount voucher site MyVoucherCodes.co.uk revealed that 9% of mums and stepmums choose either a homemade gift or a meal out as the second most sought-after gift.

While 44% of those buying for their mums and step-mums choose blooms, 29% choose chocolate and 17% opt for a lunch or dinner out.

The research also reveals three-quarters (73%) of UK people with mums or step-mums plan to buy a card this year, and 68% will buy a gift.*

Those celebrating Mother’s Day will spend a generous £44.80 on a card and present for the March 30th celebration. The age group splurging the most is aged 25-34, spending an average of £71.86 on a gift and card.

When respondents were asked what they would buy their mum if they had an unlimited amount of money,12% said they’d choose a UK property. A holiday home, a cruise, and a Caribbean holiday all came together in a joint second with 8%.

It’s often said you can’t put a price on love but new research from money-saving experts MyVoucherCodes has found that the average spend for Brits this Valentine’s Day will be £50.07. 

It’s the men who come out tops for splashing the cash with an average spend of £55.61 compared to women at £43.45. It’s those aged 25 to 34 who spend the most with an average of £56.29, followed closely by those aged 35 to 44 at £56.29. However, those aged 65 and over will spend an average of £35.73.

Half of those questioned (51%) will definitely be buying a card or gift this year but one in 10 say they will be opting for a homemade pressie this Valentine’s. 

When it comes to receiving gifts, a meal out is the most coveted choice with 27% of respondents hoping for a restaurant date, followed by a quarter of people (25%) who like to receive chocolates, 22% choosing flowers and 21% are hoping for a night away.

However, not everyone wants to be showered with gifts this Valentine’s Day with one in five people saying they don’t want to receive anything at all.

Skincare is a multi-billion pound industry with a rapidly growing market due to social media and the effect of influencers, and a new study shows men spend almost £20 per month more than women a month on skincare products, equating to nearly £240 a year.

Research undertaken by discount and voucher website MyVoucherCodes reveals the average spend per person on skincare per month is £42.68, with men splurging £54.79 and women £35.64.

Among the men, those aged 25-34 like to dig deep into their pockets, spending a whopping £76.17 on maintaining their young and youthful skin. Coming it at second is the 35-44-year-olds, who spend £59.40 per month.

The most popular female age group to spend on skincare is aged 25-34, with £55.42 per female being spent. Those aged 35-44 females like to spend just over £10 less at £44.99 per month.

Moisturising day cream comes out as the top skincare product, with 69% of Brits who buy skincare products saying they use it regularly. Of those, 49% are men, while 81% are female.

Cleansers are the second most popular item to spend money on, with 55% of people saying they use them, and 41% of these are males and 63% of females. Night cream comes in third with 52% of people purchasing it, 30% of those male and 65% female.

When it comes to using Vitamin C in your skincare routine, men come out higher than women with 38% compared to 35%.

The results also show that 93% of people who buy skincare products say having a good skincare routine is important, while just 7% say it isn’t important. And 59% of Brits who buy skincare products say value for money is something they take into consideration when buying skincare.

There are some brilliant deals on MyVoucherCodes to save you pounds on your skincare. Here are my top five tips of what to look out for when buying skincare.

• Buy products that contain SPF. Protecting your skin from UV rays is crucial and with moisturising cream being the top purchase for Brits, make sure it contains SPF 30 or higher. Along with helping you to maintain youthful-looking skin, it will lower your risk of skin cancer and minimise age spots.
• Understand your skin type. People with acne-prone skin need different products than someone with oily skin, for instance, otherwise, you risk causing a breakout or further skin irritation. • Use discount and voucher code websites to save money. In addition to this, I have ADHD, which often leads to impulsive actions (not ideal when on a budget!)  Over the last few years, I’ve developed some mindful spending habits that have reduced my outgoings, anxiety and stress. 

Christmas is one time of the year when it’s very easy to spend beyond your budget. However, almost a fifth of Brits plan to cut costs on their Christmas dinner ingredients, a recent study has revealed.

19% of people are spending less on their Christmas dinner this year, research by discount voucher code site MyVoucherCodes has revealed. It’s those aged 25 to 34 cutting back the most, with 32% spending less on a roast with all the trimmings closely followed by those aged 35 to 44 (29%).

When asked which areas people are planning to spend less on this Christmas, 32% of people said going out, the same amount are saving on gifts and 29% said they’re tightening the purses on dinner. It’s Londoners who are cutting back the most on socialising though, with 40% saying they will be spending less on going out this Christmas.

Overall, 17% of Brits will spend less this Christmas, and of those, the average save is £155.10.

Reasons for this include increased cost of living (60%), less disposable income due to reduced earnings or hours worked (31%) and a desire to save more or reduce debt (30%).

The survey, which asked 2000 participants about their spending habits when it comes to decking the halls,  noted that the age range that will be spending the most is 18 to 24, with each person splashing £194.60. 

With the continuing cost of living crisis, 61% of those surveyed said it will affect how much they will spend on decorations this year, with 47% saying they will be decorating an artificial tree and reusing old decorations.

January Sales have been part of British culture for decades. But while traditionally shoppers would be scooping up all the cut-price Winter wear, the annual event has evolved to treating yourself and your loved ones to a getaway, whether that be UK-based or abroad. 

A recent study undertaken by discount voucher codes website MyVoucherCodes revealed that this year, 39% of sale shoppers will be trying to bag a bargain trip away. The results also show that 53% of those purchasing holidays are male and 46% are female.

Regionally, those in Northern Ireland love a cut-price getaway, with 65% of shoppers saying they’re likely to buy one in the January sales. Next are Londoners, with 59% showing interest in a discounted holiday.

The survey also showed that the average spend of a person shopping in the January sales is £225.51. Men will splurge more than women, with an average of £249.89 per shopper and women spending £204.15.

The age range spending the most is 25-34 with £291.37 and next are those aged 35-44, who are set to spend £237.01.

Regionally, Londoners like to splash the cash the most in the new year sales with £287.26 per shopper.

New research has revealed that one in five Brits plan to splash the cash more on Christmas gifts this festive season than they did last year.  

• The average Brit will spend £345.35 this festive season
• Women will splurge more than men
• 18 to 24-year-olds are more likely to spend more compared to last year than any other age group

A survey from MyVoucherCodes revealed that the average Brit will spend £345.35 this Christmas. The data also revealed that men’s purses will be tighter than women’s when it comes to buying Christmas pressies with the average spend for men at £326 compared to women’s £362.

According to the figures, the most generous age group for spending this year will be those aged between 35-44 who plan to spend £382 on loved ones. Shoppers in the North East will be the highest spenders with a Christmas shopping budget of £405.65, while those living in the East Midlands will keep costs down with a potential bill of £296.40

The survey, which asked 2000 participants about their spending habits when it comes to Christmas, also found that one in five shoppers will spend £50 - £100 more than they did last year.

More than half of people who like to shop on Black Friday will be looking for Christmas presents at the annual money-saving shopping event this year.

Our recent survey revealed that when fans of the ever-growing discount day were asked what they spend the most on in the Black Friday deals, 56% of them said Christmas gifts.

Almost half (48%) of shoppers said electrical goods were on their shopping list, and an equal amount said they like to buy clothes and/or shoes. Beauty items were the next popular item, with 27% of shoppers saying they like to purchase beauty products.

The same survey revealed that a quarter (25%) of Brits will spend less on Christmas gifts this year than last year, and 15% said Christmas will be financially challenging.

As the cost of living crisis continues, 17% of people in the UK said they would be using discount days and websites to help pay for gifts and meals this year, and 14% said they’d be using credit cards to shop for Black Friday items. 

The survey also revealed that a quarter of Black Friday shoppers will spend up to £100 on the discount day, 24% will spend between £101- £200, 23% will spend between £201-£400 and 13% will spend more than £400.

These results show how Black Friday deals, plus money-saving vouchers and discounts are key for keeping costs down when buying Christmas gifts. It’s no surprise so many people wait for special discount and deal days such as Black Friday in the annual calendar to get some great savings on Christmas presents, especially with a quarter of shoppers planning to spend less this Christmas than in 2023.

But not everyone is aware that there are even more savings to be had on top of the Black Friday deals when it comes to using vouchers. The key to making the most of the major discount shopping day is to be as prepared as possible. Here’s top seven tips to get ahead:

• Use an online wish list and start saving items in there now so that they are ready to be placed straight in your trolley as soon as they go on sale.
• Make sure you’re signed up to your favourite store/brand’s newsletter as you’ll get a heads up on the types of deals and discounts happening on the day.
• Plan ahead and check prices right now if you know what you want. There are free online tools such a PriceRunner that can give you a good headstart. More than a quarter (26%) of Black Friday shoppers living in Wales buy for their pets on the popular sale shopping day, a recent study by MyVoucherCodes has revealed. 

The next most popular region where shoppers like to use the annual sales day to buy for their pets is the North East with 22%. The third is the Yorkshire and the Humberside area with 20%. The least bothered about treating their four-legged friends are those living in the South West, with just 7% shopping for their pets on Black Friday.

People in Wales are also the most generous when it comes to buying for their partners, with 59% of shoppers purchasing gifts for their partner.

Meanwhile, those living in London are the most self-indulgent, with 74% of Black Friday shoppers treating themselves on the discounted shopping day. And when it comes to buying for relatives and family, people from Northern Ireland are the most generous, with 80% of Black Friday shoppers splurging on friends and family.

Half (50%) of Black Friday shoppers like to shop in the morning, and half (50%) in the afternoon and evening. When it comes to the morning, 22% of Black Friday shoppers look for a bargain between 9-10am and 21% between 10 and 11am.

15% like to have a gander between 8am and 9am, with 10% between 6 and 7am and a further 10% between 7 and 8am.
