If, like many, you’ve taken to travelling hand luggage only to avoid the expense of checked-in bags, it’s almost given that you’ll be taking travel size toiletries with you; simply due to the fact that you’re not allowed to take liquids greater than 100ml onto the plane.
But did you know that you could be paying up to seven times more for the convenience of taking travel minis?
Our latest research looks at the cost of buying 14 of the UK’s most popular travel-sized toiletries at four major retailers against that of buying the same products in a standard-size and has revealed the staggering cost of convenience.
On average, our research reveals that we are paying 177% more per 100ml when going for travel-sized products, however we were shocked to discover that, when looking at the products individually at each retailer, the largest difference is a staggering 650%; that’s over seven times higher.

We researched the price of standard size and travel-size toiletries across the key product groupings of shampoo and conditioner, shower gel, deodorant, sun lotion, wipes and oral care, taking prices from four major retailers who stock the same product in both sizes.
The retailers where prices were obtained from were Superdrug, ASDA, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Ocado, Morrisons and Amazon. All prices were taken as the standard price, not inclusive of any short-term discounts or offers.
All prices were correct as of 1st August 2018.
