Curating outfits that look thoughtfully put together can be expensive. But what if I told you that all you really need are these 5 accessories to add the finishing touches? They’re the key to elevating any outfit – even the most basic, capsule wardrobes and everyday, casual looks.

What are the best accessories to make every outfit feel put together?

1. Versatile handbag

For outfits that lack structure, add a handbag. It doesn’t need to be costly - think cross-body bag or a mini tote bag. Adding a handbag helps your outfit look more sophisticated. It can make even jeans and a nice top look put together.

2. Simple jewellery

Add detail to your look with simple jewellery. You don’t need to overdo it with expensive, statement pieces – I’ve previously covered how you can cut costs on jewellery without compromising on quality.

All you need are a few thoughtfully selected items. I’d advise simple gold hoops or studs, a chain necklace and a watch. Together, they’ll likely add the finishing touch to even a basic outfit.

3. Sunglasses

Sunglasses are the ultimate accessory if you’re going for a clean and polished look. Based on our guide to buying the perfect sunglasses, we advise that you choose a timeless style like oversized or cat eye. These are ideal for adding a classy vibe to your casual outfits.

4. Belts

Belts are one of those items that feel like they’re only functional. But they can actually transform your look if you choose wisely. For outfits that are lacking in shape, a belt is essential. It’ll define your shape and refine your style.

5. Blazer

Instantly sharpen a basic outfit by throwing a blazer on top. A blazer or jacket can add definition and fullness to your outfit, which is especially useful if it feels like it’s lacking. You can never go wrong with the business casual vibe.

When I’m not writing about saving money on homely purchases, I’m either sitting with my head in a new book, painting a piece of art for my walls, or binge-watching an interior design programme on Netflix. I love to get inspiration and transform my space, usually with the help of a few Pinterest boards and a couple of tins of paint.
