Mum deserves to be spoilt every day of the year, but even more so on Mother's Day. But these days, meaningful gifts cost an absolute fortune. This year, I've done the hard work for you and come up with tons of ways to make your mum feel special this Mother's Day.

And now, I'm giving you my list of thoughtful gifts that mum is sure to love, that won't cost you an arm or a leg. From appreciation jars to books & brews, check out some of my favourite gift ideas to guarantee that mum feels special this year and every day after.

When is Mother's Day UK 2026?

This year, Mother’s Day in the UK takes place on Sunday, 15th March. If you need some Mother’s Day ideas, then read on to find out our favourite presents to show mum some love.

1. Framed photo

I've been loving gifting framed photos lately and Mother's Day is the perfect opportunity. Print out some your favourite memories with mum, and put them in a frame she'll love.

I buy my frames from TK Maxx, Etsy, or Dunelm. I usually opt for affordable frames, and spruce them up by either giving them a lick of paint or using patterned fabric or hessian as a beautiful backdrop to my photos.

2. Appreciation jar

Mums deserve appreciation, and it's a great way to ensure they feel loved and valued every day. You only need an empty jar, some cards, and a pen. Decorate your cards and handwrite little notes of gratitude for a personal touch.

I mentioned previously in my article on the best free ways to spend time together for Mother's Day that last year I made my mum an appreciation jar, and she absolutely loved it.

3. Homemade treats basket

Grab a basket, a storage tub, or even an old plant pot, and fill it with mum's favourite sweet treats. Extra points if they're homemade. Think blueberry muffins, jam & cream scones, or deliciously gooey chocolate brownies.

Wrap them up in parchment paper and tie with a little string to give it a wholesome touch.

4. Handwritten poem

Tell mum just how special she is with a heartfelt poem. If you need some inspiration, don’t be afraid to look online for similar poems. Think about all your favourite things about mum and find a creative way to tell her.

5. Book & brews

If mum’s idea of heaven is sitting down with a good book and a cuppa, then this one is for you. Treat her to her favourite tea, or choose something new for her to try. Pair this with a new book for her to enjoy, and you're golden.

I recently bought my mum a Twinings tea tin, which I spotted in Sainsbury's, so she can take her favourite tea bags to work with her. They're an adorable and inexpensive gift to purchase this Mother's Day.

6. Satin pillowcase

If your mum is anything like mine and absolutely loves a beauty trend, then a satin pillowcase is ideal. Not only are satin pillowcases great for preventing hair breakage and reducing frizz, but they’re also good for the skin, so mum can feel and look her best, every day of the week.

7. Shortbread biscuits

If your mum loves nothing more than a good cup of tea, shortbread biscuits will be a match made in heaven. Whether you're up for baking your own or want to purchase a posh pack from a farm shop, they’re the perfect addition to any Spring afternoon relaxing in the garden.

8. Photo book

Make your favourite memories last a lifetime with a Photo Book from PhotoBox. You and mum can have a flick-through together on Mother’s Day to reminisce on your happiest moments together, and if she’s ever feeling down, it’ll surely put a smile on her face.

9. Pyjamas

Give mum that fresh pyjama feeling with a new pair of pyjamas. From smooth silk pjs that are perfect after a warm bath, to adorable floral pjs that just scream spring, mum will love wearing them while cosying up in front of the telly with a cuppa.

10. Self care hamper

Fill your hamper with all of mum’s favourite things. From fluffy socks, chocolate, and tea, to bath bombs, crackers, and cheese & wine, what’s not to love with a basket full of appreciation for mum this Mother’s Day?

11. Homemade afternoon tea

Let mum put her feet up and treat her to an afternoon tea. Instead of taking her out, make your own finger sandwiches, scones, and treats and present a glorious spread at home.

Check out Jane’s Patisserie or BBC Good Food for some recipe ideas. I recommend using Pinterest for some thoughtful table layout or hosting ideas to take it up a notch.

12. Body oil

Give mum a well-deserved at-home pamper night with some luxury body oil. My personal favourite is the Aveeno Skin Relief Body Oil with jojoba and oat oil. It's very lightweight so that she won't get that sticky feeling, and it smells divine.

It's available in most supermarkets for under £10, so she can feel like a million pounds, for a fraction of the cost.

13. Ultimate day off

Sometimes all mum dreams of is a lie-in, so I've dedicated an entire piece to how to plan the ultimate day off for Mother's Day. Do your own thing while she enjoys having some time to herself.

In fact, you could even surprise her with a new pair of pyjamas the night before, so she can enjoy her morning in bed feeling fresh as a daisy.

I’m Layla, the home and garden editor, and I started working at MyVoucherCodes in November 2022. I have always loved to write, especially after getting my degree in English Literature and Creative Writing, and since getting my own place, I’ve gotten stuck into all things home and garden.

When I’m not writing about saving money on homely purchases, I’m either sitting with my head in a new book, painting a piece of art for my walls, or binge-watching an interior design programme on Netflix. I love to get inspiration and transform my space, usually with the help of a few Pinterest boards and a couple of tins of paint.
