Father’s Day is almost here, and if you’re anything like me, it’s probably a scramble to find things to buy. My dad is the type who already has everything and wants nothing. So this year, I’ve decided to try something different.

Instead of spending money on gifts, I’ve come up with a list of the best free Father’s Day activities that you can do at home. It’s minimal fuss, ideal for last-minute Father’s Day ideas, and guaranteed to make Father’s Day feel special.

When is Father’s Day 2026?

Father's Day in the UK this year is Sunday, 21st June. It’s a little later in the month than last year, so it feels like you’ve got a bit longer to get things planned.

What are the best Father’s Day activities?

The most meaningful Father’s Day activities for 2026 that you can do at home include gardening, a pub quiz with his favourite snacks, and a coffee date with homemade pastries. They’re simple and affordable, and sure to make his day.

Our data shows that Brits are spending nearly £15 more on dads than mums in 2026. If this is something you've noticed yourself, then you ought to try some of our favourite Father's day activities that your bank account will love too.

1. Gardening

June nearly always guarantees the perfect weather for gardening. If your dad is anything like mine and takes absolute pride in his garden, have some fun doing it together. Whether you’re doing a small garden makeover or finishing up a project, it’s a wholesome way to spend some quality time together.

2. Coffee date

Coffee lovers unite. Why go out for a coffee when you can host the most adorable coffee date right at home? Make sure you’ve got dad’s favourite drink order, and have a go at making your own goodies to enjoy alongside it. If he’s not into chocolate, here are 10 simple sweet treat alternatives.

3. Homemade brunch

Who doesn’t love brunch? Whether it’s a heavenly toastie or the ultimate breakfast wrap, surprise dad with a feast fit for a king. When I do this, I love grabbing some Jus-Rol puff pastry from the supermarket and making savoury croissants for that coffee-shop feel.

4. Long walk

If you’ve got an outdoorsy dad, then a long walk or hike is one of the best Father’s Day activities. I’ve previously mentioned how much I rely on the All Trails app for the most beautiful local walks that don’t require travelling far. Get out and about in the sun and don’t forget some snacks!

5. Pub quiz

Host your very own pub quiz right at home. Make sure to get dad’s favourite drinks and pub snacks in to make it feel as authentic as possible. There are tons of pub quiz videos on YouTube, or you can have a go at making your own. Winner gets a small prize (let’s hope dad wins, eh?).

6. BBQ

You can absolutely never go wrong with a BBQ, especially if you’re after Father’s Day dinner ideas. Give dad the night off from BBQ duty and treat him to a delicious spread. I’m talking homemade burgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob, and the rest.

7. Wash his car

I know so many dads whose pride and joy really are their cars. If this sounds like your dad, then I just know you’ll make his day by getting his car squeaky clean. Grab your bucket and sponge and get scrubbing. And don’t forget the inside - a good hoover and polish can make any car feel as good as new.

8. Sports marathon

If there are any good games on the weekend of Father’s Day this year, then it’s the perfect time to have a sports marathon together. And if you fancied getting outside, you could even bring the TV out into the garden for that pub garden feel.

9. Bike ride

Enjoy the sunshine and get out on a bike ride with your dad. There’s nothing like getting out in nature to make your day that bit brighter. And who knows, maybe you’ll find a handy cafe or pub to stop by on the way home.

10. Favourite film

Get the popcorn out (the good stuff that you make at home, not the bags) and cosy up to watch dad’s all-time favourite film. Turn your lounge into a cinema, make some tickets and put together some pick’n’mix bags for the ultimate movie night.

11. Ultimate day off

Treat dad to the ultimate day off so he can rest and relax. I previously wrote an entire piece on how to plan the ultimate day off for mum, and the same goes for dad. Let him have a lie-in and surprise him with breakfast in bed. Tick a few things off his to-do list so he doesn’t have to worry, and finish it off with a chilled evening.

When I’m not writing about saving money on homely purchases, I’m either sitting with my head in a new book, painting a piece of art for my walls, or binge-watching an interior design programme on Netflix. I love to get inspiration and transform my space, usually with the help of a few Pinterest boards and a couple of tins of paint.
