History of Cheltenham Festival
The history of this famous event dates back to the 1860s, where it started as the National Hunt Chase. It was held at the Warwick Racecourse, and by 1864 an entire stand had been created with new paddocks and all other racecourse facilities.The very first race, the Stayers Hurdle, still continues as one of Cheltenham's championship races to this day, while other famous events include the Cheltenham Gold Cup, the Foxhunter Steeple Chase, and the Johnny Henderson Grand Annual Steeple Chase.
