  • Almost 80% of concert-goers agree that everyday fans are getting priced out of concert tickets.
  • The average spending on concert tickets over a year is £318
  • A fifth of 18-24-year-old concert goers prioritise social interaction, saying they attend gigs to connect with other fans of the same artist.

Despite the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, the UK’s appetite for live music remains resilient. Research from MyVoucherCodes found 79% of music lovers spent an average of £318 on concert tickets over 12 months.

Among the younger generation, a fifth of 18-24-year-old concert goers say they attend gigs to connect with other fans of the same artist. Showing that social interaction is a priority within this demographic, despite the cost.

When it comes to travel,1 in 10 of 45-54-year-olds surveyed said they have travelled outside the UK to see an artist, highlighting a willingness among this age group to go the extra mile for a unique experience.

Money and lifestyle expert, Sarah-Jane Outten, at MyVoucherCodes, said:

‘I attended a Michael Jackson concert in Cardiff in 1992; the cost of my ticket then was £21.50. According to the Bank of England's inflation calculator, the cost of that ticket today would be £48.34'

Outten goes on to say 'Although there are many other factors to consider when comparing these prices, it’s easy to see how unaffordable the experience of live music has become. It would be encouraging to see changes made that would enable everyone to enjoy concerts without delving into the world of credit'
