Self-care is something that should be a part of everyday life. And it would be, if it weren’t so expensive. But what if I told you that self-care doesn’t have to be costly?

I’ve written on tons of ways to unwind, reset, and feel the best version of you – and it’s all things you can actually afford. Find out how you can build a solid self-care routine that restores your body and mind without the overspending.

Self-care ideas that don’t cost a fortune

When it comes to self-care ideas, it’s not about purchasing the boujee-ist wellness products to help you glow from within. It’s about finding affordable habits that feel like luxury.

Think lighting a candle and reading a book. Establishing a proper night routine. Or going for a walk while listening to a wellness podcast. I’ve written on quick and easy self-care ideas that you can start today, as well as 14 ways to pamper yourself like a pro for when you want to go all out, minus the cost.

Mindful & affordable hobbies

One of the best ways to switch off from the world is with hobbies. I’ve tried everything from embroidery to writing to making Pinterest boards, and they’ve been perfect for adding mindful moments into my week.

Winter, especially, can be a time when we forget to make time for ourselves, which can often lead to low mood and stress. That’s why I’ve compiled a list of 10 of the best hobbies to do in the winter, and they’re all super affordable.

How to save on beauty products

If you’re anything like me and you’re easily influenced by the TikTok wellness girlies sharing their favourite products, don’t let a tight budget stop you from treating yourself.

Reward schemes really are the way to go, and we’ve got an entire piece dedicated to everything you need to know about the Boots Advantage card so that you can maximise your savings.

Free daily habits for peace of mind

Prevent stress from building up by adding a few habits to your weekly routine. Whether you’re looking for the best habits for actually staying organised, or it’s all about putting some time aside for free yoga or meditation, we’ve got you covered.

Sometimes it’s more than just the odd bit of self-care here or there, but committing to a more fulfilling lifestyle by adopting healthy habits.

Transforming your home for less

For me, my home plays a huge part in how I feel. If I’m surrounded by chaos and mess, my stress levels go through the roof, and I just cannot relax. That’s why I’ve looked into wellness home trends like cosymaxxing, which is all about creating a space in your home that invites you to unwind and de-stress.

It’s all about soft lighting, calming scents, and soft textures. And I’ve recommended some of the best places to find it all if you’re shopping on a budget.

How to build a routine that actually sticks

  • Build up from the bottom up: Don’t go all in at once – chances are, it won’t stick. Instead, implement one new habit into your weekly routine at a time. Once you’ve been consistent for a few weeks, add another, and slowly build up.
  • Sunday reset: Try a Sunday reset system each week to help you stay on top of those pesky chores that might otherwise get in the way of self-care. Wash bedding, wipe down the sides and restock your fridge.
  • Follow wellness influencers: Follow like-minded people so you can get inspiration. I love doing this to find new ways to be mindful, and it keeps me motivated too.
  • Make Pinterest boards: Use Pinterest to make vision boards. It’s all about manifesting the life that you want.

Home & Garden Writer

I’m Layla, the home and garden editor, and I started working at MyVoucherCodes in November 2022. I have always loved to write, especially after getting my degree in English Literature and Creative Writing, and since getting my own place, I’ve gotten stuck into all things home and garden.

When I’m not writing about saving money on homely purchases, I’m either sitting with my head in a new book, painting a piece of art for my walls, or binge-watching an interior design programme on Netflix. I love to get inspiration and transform my space, usually with the help of a few Pinterest boards and a couple of tins of paint.
