5 digital spending habits that quickly add up
Here are 5 easy ways to instantly save money
Scrolling Pinterest and TikTok are some of my favourite things to do in my downtime. And at first glance, it sounds harmless. But the reality is that our digital habits might just be responsible for more than just a bit too much screen time.
The more often I use my phone, the more money I seem to spend. If, like me, you’ve noticed those outgoings steadily creeping up, not to worry. I’ve devised 5 digital spending habits that you can cut to help you save more.
1. Clothing apps
Now, I love a good scroll on ASOS - but I’d be lying if I said it doesn’t make me want to buy everything on my wish list. In reality, having clothing apps on your phone is a one-way ticket to over-consumerism - trust me, I’d know.
All it really does is encourage me to buy, buy, buy. I see something I like – it’s here the next working day, and I can wave goodbye to any money I planned on saving.
2. Scrolling on TikTok
As I’ve mentioned before, I love jumping on the next wellness or home trend from TikTok, but the cost can quickly add up. Influencers get paid to sell you products, so it’s no wonder you end up with an endless wishlist.
What’s more, TikTok shop now makes it even easier to spend money. With promises of low, competitive prices, everything seems like a good deal - until it isn’t.
3. No app limits
App limits are something that I’ve actually started using recently. If you’re spending hours doom-scrolling through shopping apps or consuming aspirational content, then this might be one of the biggest things you can do to help save money.
Limit your exposure to everything you supposedly need in your life, and focus on putting money toward your own goals and desires instead. App limits are a gentle way to stay mindful.
4. Subscription services
On the one hand, subscription services can definitely be worth the money if it’s for something you use consistently. But if you’re signed up for several things like fitness apps, meditation apps, and streaming services, it’s absolutely worth reviewing.
Unsubscribe from any that are not worth the money, and check for household or family discounts. Services like Spotify offer more affordable plans for duos and families.
5. Next-day delivery
Next-day delivery services like Amazon Prime and ASOS Premier feel like a good investment in the long run. But if you’re trying to save money, this might be one of the biggest factors that can cause overspending.
Next-day delivery encourages you to take advantage of the services and place more frequent orders, which can amount to a lot over time. Make it less convenient to purchase orders and opt out of these services.

I’m Layla, the home and garden editor, and I started working at MyVoucherCodes in November 2022. I have always loved to write, especially after getting my degree in English Literature and Creative Writing, and since getting my own place, I’ve gotten stuck into all things home and garden.
When I’m not writing about saving money on homely purchases, I’m either sitting with my head in a new book, painting a piece of art for my walls, or binge-watching an interior design programme on Netflix. I love to get inspiration and transform my space, usually with the help of a few Pinterest boards and a couple of tins of paint.
