Brits to spend nearly £380 on Christmas gifts this year - up almost 10% on 2024
Brits spend £32.63 more on gifts this Christmas compared to 2024. With people in Northern Ireland being the biggest spenders.
The average Brit will be spending £377.98 on Christmas gifts in 2025, an increase of £32.63 compared to last year’s average of £345.35, marking a rise of 9.5% in festive spending, new research from leading online discount website MyVoucherCodes has revealed.
The survey found that people in the Northern Ireland are the most generous gift givers, splashing out an average of £452.38 on presents this Christmas, while Londoners are set to spend £393.24.
Despite rising living costs, many are still prioritising Christmas gifting, but some are looking at ways to make their budgets stretch further. When asked what they’d cut back on to save money this festive season, 36% of respondents said they would go out less, 34% plan to buy fewer clothes, and 27% will skip a Christmas holiday or getaway this year.
Shopping habits also continue to shift online, with 39% of people saying they’ll be doing their last-minute Christmas shopping on the internet. Among younger shoppers aged 18–24, that figure jumps to a huge 61%, reflecting the growing trend toward digital convenience and online deals.
Money-saving expert at MyVoucherCodes Sarah-Jane Outten said of the findings
“It’s clear that while people are feeling the pinch, Christmas remains a really special time of year, and Brits are finding ways to make it work."

“With prices up on last year, every saving counts. Using discount codes, shopping early, and being clever with spending can make a big difference without cutting back on the festive cheer. Here’s my seven top tips to save money this year:
- Set a spending limit – Create a realistic budget for gifts, food, and outings, and stick to it. Tracking your spending helps avoid last-minute panic buying.
- Start shopping early – Prices often creep up in December. Shopping in November or during sales events like Black Friday can mean big savings.
- Go for group gifts – If you’re buying for someone big on your list, consider teaming up with friends or family to share the cost.
- Use discount voucher websites – Before you buy, always check sites like MyVoucherCodes for promo codes and exclusive deals. You could save on everything from gifts to groceries.
- Get crafty with gifting – Homemade presents or baked goods can be thoughtful and budget-friendly alternatives to store-bought items.
- Use cashback and loyalty schemes – Make the most of points, cashback offers, and rewards when shopping online or in-store.
- Plan festive meals smartly – Write out a food plan, avoid overbuying, and check what’s already in your cupboards before heading to the supermarket.
