Three in four Brits have visited a Christmas market, spending an average of nearly £110 per trip
75% of Brits have visited a Christmas market, confirming it's become a festive tradition.
A whopping three quarters of Brits (75%) have visited a Christmas market, cementing them as one of the nation’s favourite winter traditions, new research from leading discount site MyVoucherCodes has revealed.*
The survey found that a further 12% of respondents haven’t yet attended one but plan to in the future, while only 9% said they have no intention of ever visiting a Christmas market.
According to the findings, the average Brit has been to five Christmas markets, spending £109.58 at each one – covering everything from mulled wine and festive food to gifts and decorations.
The data also revealed that, on average, people are willing to travel up to two hours to experience the magic of a Christmas market, showing just how much these events mean to the public during the holiday season.
Sarah-Jane Outten, Money-Saving Expert at MyVoucherCodes, commented:
"Christmas markets are a wonderful way to get into the festive spirit, but it’s easy for costs to add up quickly, especially when you factor in travel, food, and those irresistible Christmas treats."

“Our research shows that people are happy to spend and travel for the experience, but there are plenty of simple ways to make the most of the magic without breaking the bank. Here’s my top five tips for visiting Christmas markets within a budget."
- Travel Smart – Check for discounted train fares, group travel tickets, or use coach services that offer cheaper fares to major markets. Booking early can also help you secure the best prices.
- Use Cashback and Discount Codes – Before booking travel or accommodation, check for voucher codes or cashback offers through sites like MyVoucherCodes.
- Set a Spending Budget – With food, drinks, and gifts on offer, costs can rise quickly. Decide how much you want to spend before you go, and stick to it.
- Go Midweek – If possible, visit markets on weekdays or during off-peak hours to save on travel costs and avoid crowds.
- Bring Reusables – Take your own cup or bag to avoid extra charges for disposables — and to help the environment too.”
