With announcement season upon us and the new generation of consoles on the horizon, it’s a big time of the year for upcoming video games. Whether you’re loyal to Xbox, prefer PlayStation, or you’re a staunch advocate of PC gaming, there’s something to look forward to for everyone.

So, we’re going to look forward to the most anticipated games for the year 2020, and beyond. From freshly announced franchise favourites, to those games we’ve been waiting for with bated breath for what feels like years.

Halo Infinite

As one of the biggest franchises that Microsoft have to offer, fans were waiting eagerly to hear all about the latest entry in the Halo series.

At the Xbox Showcase in July, fans were treated to a whole bunch of gameplay. Coupled with the news that Halo Infinite would be available towards the end of this year, it was all great news for fans.

This next one was a pleasant surprise for fans of fantasy role-playing games. The latest offering from Obsidian, the creators of the recently released Grounded, and the critically-acclaimed Fallout: New Vegas, is Avowed.

It’s been nine years since the release of Skyrim, so people are on the lookout for something to satisfy that fantasy RPG need. Obsidian are the company that can go toe-to-toe with Bethesda when it comes to RPG’s. This one is a little while away though, with it being pegged for the year 2022. But you can always start a new Skyrim playthrough in the meantime.

From the creators of the legendary Goldeneye, the Banjo-Kazooie series and more, comes Everwild. It’s an action-adventure game that looks a little like 2017’s Zelda: Breath of the Wild. And that’s not a bad thing at all!

There’s not much news on when this one is coming out. But it’s good to see that when the Xbox Series X comes out towards the end of the year, there won’t be a shortage of awesome exclusives. Not to mention, these will all be available for PC players too.

Horizon Forbidden West

A PlayStation exclusive that’s a sequel to 2017’s critically-acclaimed Horizon Zero Dawn is incredible news for Sony stalwarts. Complete with the stunning scenery, incredible story and the action-packed gameplay of its predecessor, it promises to be an exciting instalment in the relatively young series.

With a 2021 release date, it won’t be long before owners of the PlayStation 5 can get their hands on it. And hopefully it’s another winner in the ever growing arsenal of exclusive gems that Sony have on their console.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Marvels Spider-Man was released to critical-acclaim and it was loved by us players too. So, when Sony announced a standalone expansion to that game with the fan-favourite character Miles Morales filling the boots of the friendly neighbourhood webslinger, there was a lot of excitement.

Bookmarked as a release title for the next generation, you can grab this one later this year. So, those looking to get their hands on the PlayStation 5 can rest assured they’ll have something great to play.

Upcoming Video Games that Aren’t a Console Exclusive

Cyberpunk 2077

With the release date having been pushed back a few times, Cyberpunk 2077 has been hotly-anticipated for a while. But CD Projekt Red are masters of their craft, so we’re hoping they’re adding a little bit of additional polish to the game. Our fingers are crossed for this one being up to the standards they set with The Witcher 3.

With its current release date sitting on the 19th of November, we’re looking forward to an incredible experience. Not to mention there’s a digitally rendered Keanu Reeves along for the ride.

Assassins Creed: Valhalla

The latest entry in the long-running Assassins Creed series takes us back to Viking times. And while you may ask where the “Assassin” part comes in, it can be argued that being a Viking is too awesome an opportunity to pass up.

With the 23rd (that’s right, 23rd) Assassins Creed game coming to all consoles, from the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4, to the next generation releases, everyone can get their hands on the latest instalment.

Watchdogs Legion

On top of the latest Assassins Creed game, Ubisoft also have another instalment in the Watchdogs series on its way. With the promise of being able to play as absolutely anyone in a faithfully-recreated virtual sandbox version of London, it’s all sounding like a very good time indeed.

Currently being released on the 29th of October, you can get your hands on this game soon. It’s coming out on both the current and next generation of consoles. So if you can be patient, you can experience it on the latest hardware.

Skate 4

It’s been eleven years since the last entry in the Skate series,. Fans have been eager for a sequel ever since, and they’ve not been quiet about it. However, EA have heard the fans cries, with Skate 4 finally in development!

This one is very early in development, so it’s likely to be a while before we get it. But the fact that it’s in the pipeline is enough for skateboard simulation fans to get excited. And with the first and second Tony Hawks Pro Skater game remasters coming in September, we’ve got something to tide us over.
