Winter Skincare Tips – Ultimate Guide

Share

Winter is generally the season causing the most distress to your skin. You may’ve noticed the outer layers of your skin becoming dry and dull during the colder months, which often leads to flakes and cracks. Your skin may lose its natural glow and become tight and itchy. We’ve come up with this essential guide on the best winter skincare tips. You’ll find everything you need to know about winter beauty routines, essential products and healthy hacks.

Winter Beauty Routines

  • Cleanser that won’t dry out your skin

When cleaning your face skin in the winter, opt for a gentle and hydrating gel cleanser. Make sure it doesn’t contain alcohol and it’s fragrance-free to avoid any unnecessary irritation. Also, limit the usage of regular soap bars in the winter as they can contain more irritating ingredients.

  • Sheet masks for hydration

Sheet masks are a great way to make sure all rejuvenating ingredients are soaking into your skin. They’re gentle on the face and will leave it feeling hydrated throughout the day. We recommend using masks that contain naturally rich oils such as shea butter or apricot oil. • Moisturiser

One of the best things you can do for your skin in the winter is to moisturise on a daily basis. Apart from the cold weather drying out the skin, the central heating we have at home and at the offices is a major factor for a dull-looking skin. To avoid this, pick a heavier good quality face moisturiser and don’t forget your body, hands and lips. They also need protection!

  • Serum with Vitamin C

Antioxidants are essential for keeping your skin glow in the winter months. Choose a face serum rich in antioxidants like Vitamin C, which promotes collaged formation and is known to repair damage.

  • Sunscreen

If you think that just because you can’t see the sun it doesn’t affect your skin, you can’t be further from the truth. You should aim to apply as much sunscreen in the winter like you do in the summer. You can choose a face cream with UV protection or a foundation with a high SPF factor. If you go skiing, a high SPF factor sunscreen is essential!

  • Lip balm – don’t forget it

The cold weather and wind are your lips’ biggest enemies in the winter. They can make you lips look chapped and dehydrated. We recommend carrying a hydrating lip balm in your purse and applying regularly when outside. The best balms are the ones containing almond oil, coconut oil or aloe vera. Avoid matte lipsticks at all cost because their ingredients tend to dry out your lips even more.

Winter skincare tips

  • Humidifier – adds moisture to the air to prevent dryness

If you plan on investing in a single home item this winter, let it be a humidifier. It will do wonders for you skin! Place it in a room you’re spending a lot of time in, for example your home office, living room or the bedroom.

  • Reduce shower/bath time and temperature

We know how good it feels to spend hours watching your favourite Netflix tv series in a hot bath, however it’s actually not a good idea for your skin. Instead limit the bath time to 20 min and the shower to 10 min at most. Also, don’t go for a water that’s too hot. The same applies when washing hands as well!

  • Lower the thermostat to avoid dry skin

Even though it might be tempting to keep increasing the thermostat at home the colder it gets, it actually dries out your skin even more. Instead, keep you room temperature at a comfortable setting and if you feel cold, put on a warm sweater. It might even save you some money on your next bill!

  • Have a healthy diet and take vitamin D

We all know how important it is to eat healthy in order to enjoy a glowing skin, however in the winter it’s crucial! Colder months usually mean less time spent exercising outside and with gyms currently closed across the country, it’s difficult to stay fit. We might opt for comfort food and forget about eating healthy food. However, eating fruits and veggies, as well as foods that contain omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids is essential for your keeping your skin in a good condition naturally.

Also, taking extra supplements such as vitamin D can help you boost your immune system and at the same time improve your skin. Don’t forget to drink plenty of water too! Looking for more inspiration?
