Whilst some people love to spend hours pampering and preening themselves in the bathroom, no one likes to spend a long time cleaning it. Yet cleaning the bathroom is an essential household chore - and needs to be done regularly.
Tackling a dirty bathroom may involve dealing with nasty soap scum, mildew, dirt and hair! Keeping a germ-free zone is not an easy task. However, if you prepare correctly, blitzing your bathroom doesn’t have to take all day. In fact, it’s possible to achieve a sparkling clean finish in under 30 minutes.
To streamline your bathroom cleaning duties here’s what you need to do:
Start by gathering up your cleaning supplies. Having everything that you are likely to need, close to hand, will save you time and energy once you get started. It’s a good idea to have:
- Rubber gloves
- Bathroom cleaning spray
- Glass cleaner
- All-purpose cleaner, or floor cleaner
- Mildew remover
- A scrubbing brush
- A bucket or plastic basin
- Toilet cleaner
- Toilet brush
- Two or three clean cloths
- A lint-free cloth
- A mop and bucket
- Broom and dustpan, or vacuum cleaner
Clear The Clutter
Before you start cleaning, it’s helpful to clear away clutter. Put away toiletries, make-up and other accessories so that all surfaces are clear.
Roll Up Your Sleeves
Once you’ve cleared away any untidy mess you can pull on your rubber gloves. Begin by spraying the shower and/or bath with mildew removing cleaner. Spray the sink and countertop with bathroom cleaner and squirt cleaner into the toilet bowl. Pay particular attention under and around the rim.
Fill the bath with a few inches of hot water and use the scrubbing brush to scrub the bath and surrounding areas. Drain the bath and repeat the same process in the shower. Once clean, wipe the bath/shower area with a dry cloth.
Repeat the same cleaning process, this time tackling the sink. Use a wet cloth to clean around the taps. Dry the sink with a clean cloth.
Scrub the inside of the toilet bowl and around the rim, seat and lid. Wipe down the toilet with the wet cloth that you used to clean the sink. Flush the toilet, wipe and dry the outside.Add some bleach to the bottom of the toilet brush holder, before replacing the brush. This will allow you to quickly freshen up the toilet bowl between each thorough bathroom clean.
Spray the bathroom mirror and any other mirrored surfaces with glass cleaner. For a streak-free shine, use a lint-free cloth to wipe the mirror clean. If you want to give your bathroom extra sparkle, spray the bath, sink and countertops with glass cleaner and wipe clean with a cloth.
Sweep or hoover the floor. If you have ceramic floor tiles or vinyl flooring get your mop and bucket ready. Add some all-purpose cleaner to the bucket and clean the floor, making sure you don’t miss any grime on the skirting boards. Wipe dry with a large dry cloth.
